Master Villainess the Invincible!
Chapter 5
Right as I was finishing up my preparations, I could hear the sound of an approaching carriage.
Here they come.
A warrior from the Namgung Clan had arrived.
They said that they would send someone if we continued to avoid addressing the annulment.
Considering the distance between Sichuan and Anhui, where the Namgung Clan was, they were right on schedule.
“My lady, someone from the Namgung Clan is here!” Shinah hurriedly whispered the news into my ear. Of course it was her bringing me the news.
She was obviously trying to gauge my reaction at the mention of Jiha Namgung’s name.
I said that I would be fine to go forward with the annulment, but Father won’t take my word at face value. I need to end things, personally.
Moojin Tang was probably still unsure of my determination in moving forward with the annulment.
“Let’s go.”
“Wh-What? My lady, you’re supposed to leave in half an hour. I don’t think the young master of the clan is here.”
Shinah continued trying to gauge my reaction, feigning ignorance.
Seeing her trying but failing to stop the corner of her mouth curling upwards, as if she knew that I was looking for any excuse to see Jiha Namgung, annoyed me.
I didn’t hesitate to slap her.
“If you intend to voice your unwanted opinions on what I do, then know that you do so with your life on the line.”
“M-my lady...” Shinah looked up with one hand pressed to the side of her face that was beginning to swell.
Her eyes, full of disbelief, were soon full of tears instead.
I didn’t feel a thing. She knew what the infusion Bi Murong was trying to feed me was, and yet she still continued to bring it to me.
I left the room and Shinah behind.
When I entered the main chambers where the clan head usually attended to business, it was surprisingly empty.
He must be meeting the envoy where I can’t find them.
Moojin Tang truly cared for his daughter. He may have looked stoic and unfeeling, but his actions said the exact opposite.
Unfortunately, Haewon Tang had never made that realization in the novel.
I headed to the upper chambers. Located slightly ahead of the main building, it was usually used to greet guests.
Just as I thought, I could find warriors of the Sichuan Tang Clan in black garb there.
“My lady, how did you…? There is a guest present, so please come back at a later time.”
A warrior firmly stood in my way.
I could tell that the last person he expected to see here was me.
“I’m well aware of who’s here. Open the door.”
Before he had a chance to respond, I slipped past him and opened the doors myself.
I couldn’t find Moojin Tang inside. He must have stepped outside for a moment.
Awaiting inside was a man who was quietly drinking a cup of tea, his back to the door.
He was wearing blue, the color of the Namgung Clan.
The Namgung Clan only sent one envoy? Am I in the wrong place?
Right as I was wondering if I was in the wrong place, the man stood up and turned.
One thought crossed my mind when I first laid my eyes on him.
He’s really handsome.
I could tell in an instant that I was gazing upon the protagonist of the novel, Jiha Namgung.
I was definitely in the right room.
I don’t know if being a protagonist lent him a certain air and gravity, but for a moment I just stood there, staring.
When he raised himself to his full height, I couldn’t help but notice how tall and broad he was. He even smelled nice, and the room was already full of the faint scent of orchids.
The blue robes that he was wearing and the blade at his waist completed his breathtakingly beautiful form. I’d never seen a person who wore such loose robes in such a beautiful way in this world.
As if that wasn’t enough, his skin had a sun-kissed complexion and his facial features looked as if they were carved from marble.
I’ve seen plenty of handsome celebrities in my day, but the beauty of Jiha Namgung had far outstripped all of them.
As expected of the main character.
My impressions of Jiha Namgung only served to confirm how perfectly protagonist-like he was.
A special atmosphere hung about him, one that could only come with uniting the world and being the youngest leader of all martial artists.
Jiha Namgung was the first to break the silence.
“What impertinence is this, Lady Tang?”
His low-tone voice was nigh on heavenly, but the tone he used was still ice cold. I greeted him, as if I knew nothing.
“Young Clan Master.”
So this was the man that Haewon Tang was so infatuated with for ten years.
And now that I’d seen him, I kind of got it.
Although he was only standing still, I could still feel the energy emanating from him, thick enough that not even a needle could find purchase.
His power would probably rival my father’s.
Considering his young age of 20, that alone was impressive.
There was a good reason that the Namgung Clan continued to get engagement requests even after he was officially engaged to me.
But that didn’t mean he was a good man.
In fact, to Haewon Tang, he was a cold and horrid man.
Despite knowing Haewon Tang’s affection for him, he kept wandering around just outside of her reach for ten years and despite his engagement, he openly frolicked with other women.
He also had no manners when it came to women.
He forced Haewon Tang into unconsciousness with his murderous intent. The wounds weren’t deep, but that’s not something a man should do to a woman.
Especially not to his betrothed.
Haewon Tang was at fault for trying to harm Hee Zhuge, that was beyond doubt.
But if Jiha Namgung had cut off his relationship properly and made her give up, it wouldn’t have happened in the first place.
He was an avid practitioner of polygamy up until the end of the novel.
Although he was unwed right now, after accepting Hee Zhuge as his first wife, he would continue to mix bodies with women across his journey, ending up with a whopping seven wives.
He was always a born womanizer.
Despite saying that he wasn’t interested, the women weren’t flinging themselves onto him for no reason.
A grand total of seven wives also must have made his nights quite busy.
“Lady Tang.”
I frowned before I could stop myself. When I realized that, I shook my head in disappointment, and he responded with a sour face of his own.
“Doing this will change nothing. I do not know what the Tang Clan Head was thinking when he told you that the engagement will still be valid, but the Namgung Clan has no intention of continuing it.”
The picturesque visage was completely shattered as soon as he opened his mouth.
He has an arrogant tone, doesn’t he?
He clearly wasn’t even considering the possibility that Haewon Tang would agree to the annulment. And bringing in his opinion of what Moojin Tang must be thinking only amplified his own rudeness.
Despite his talents, he was still just a young clan head.
The arrogance of his words held no respect for the man who was the head of another great clan, approaching only with contempt towards a father who was subject to his daughter’s whims.
Just how bad were things with Haewon Tang?
Either way, Haewon Tang was to blame for this entire incident, so I silently nodded.
I had no intention of laying a finger on Hee Zhuge, and I wanted the annulment myself.
“I understand. Let us proceed with the annulment.”
“No matter what you intend to—” He stopped, mid-mumble. “What did you just say?”
Is he suffering from deafness at such a young age?
“I said we should proceed with the annulment.”
“Are you being honest?”
“Yes. I’m sure father must have told you, but I thought it would be best for you to hear the words from me. Only then I could assume we understand each other. If you’ll excuse me.”
I turned around without a speck of hesitation. The servants must be all waiting for me with my belongings by now.
And now that I’d severed all connection to Jiha Namgung, it should eliminate the most likely cause of my death.
I wouldn’t be seeing much of him anymore, and I’d be free to live my life as a result. I was satisfied.
Or at least, I was satisfied until he grabbed my sleeve and spun me around.
“How do you expect me to believe that?”
I could see the doubt in his eyes. Was he this suspicious about everything?
I shook the pinky finger of the hand that he wasn’t holding onto in front of his face.
“Would you like me to cut off a finger to prove it?” I asked.
He didn’t respond.
I’d read that cutting off one’s pinky finger was a show of great resolve in martial arts stories. Jiha Namgung was dumbfounded, clearly not expecting me to go quite that far.
“I’ve already signed the declaration of annulment. I’m sure Father will produce it for you. I wish you nothing but health.”
I lightly snatched my sleeve out of his grasp.
I decided to go a little easy on him since all he had reached for was a sleeve and not a hand.
I gave him a broad smile before I said my final farewells. It was the same killer smile that Haewon Tang used whenever she tried to entice Jiha Namgung.
“I hope we don’t cross paths again, Young Clan Head.”
This was probably the first time Jiha Namgung ever saw Haewon Tang’s back.
I felt so satisfied after all of that. I even spat on the ground on my way out.
I really hope we don’t see any more of each other, Jiha Namgung.
