With a colossal flash of light in the dead of night, the entire land, once bustling with human civilization, lay in ruins. One might mistake this devastation for a natural disaster, but in truth, it was the work of two figures hovering mid-air under the moonlight, their large wings spread wide in the wind. Amidst the rubble stood a solitary human, the sole survivor of the destruction wrought by the massive flash—a spell of mass destruction cast by two demonic beings, not from some demonic sect, but real denizens of the underworld.
One of the demons, a seductively clothed woman with a single red horn, spoke in a sultry voice to her male counterpart, adorned in majestic silk clothing and sporting purple horns. "My Lord, one has survived your great destructive spell. How intriguing," she purred as the male demon wrapped his arm around her waist, smiling in response. "Indeed. Let's take a closer look," he agreed, and in an instant, they materialized before the surviving human.
The woman, in her late twenties or early thirties, with pale skin, fiery red hair, and piercing blue eyes, glared at them with rage, standing with the support of a cane that miraculously survived the spell. "Interesting human, you possess an organic life force insulator," the male observed. Enraged, the human woman retorted, "You beasts! You've slaughtered them all! I will avenge them!" With that, she swung her cane at him, only for the female demon to seize it and demand, "Not so fast, Human. Since you may be the last human on this planet, tell me your name." With a sly grin, the human woman snapped the cane in half and impaled the female demon, declaring, "I am the princess of the Leon Empire! Edina Von Nemesis Cha Ling!"
The female demon, taken aback, began to disintegrate into pure mana, struggling to speak. "You... my lord, even the cane is an insulator. Kill her for..." Before she could finish, she dissolved completely.
The male demon chuckled, remarking, "Quite the show you've put on for the end of humanity, human." Edina, hesitating, charged at him despite her limp, but before she could act, a massive spike pierced through her. As she looked up, she realized it wasn't a magical spell but simply a spike thrown by the demon. "It was nice meeting you, Edina. I am Demon Lord Slot, one of the seven demon lords serving the Great Demon King," he announced before flying away, knowing Edina's demise was imminent.
In her dying breath, Edina's life flashed before her eyes. She remembered her happy childhood in the Blazing Dawn Sect with her parents, the misery she endured after their deaths at her aunt's hands, and how she was married off to a man by her aunt for political connections with the second prince. She recalled how that man ignored and neglected her, choosing to flirt with other women instead. Then, when the first prince rose to power in the succession war, her childhood home, the Blazing Dawn Sect, was destroyed and executed by the first prince for allying with the second prince, along with her aunt and her husband's family. She was spared due to pleas from the Leon Empire but was exiled from the central plains to the Leon Empire.
In the Leon Empire, she found happiness with the imperial family, her grandmother, grandfather, and uncle. But then came the Humanity's Era War—a conflict between humanity and demons. After years of division, humanity united to fight the demons, launching all-out attacks from the eastern continent to the western continent to the southern continent. Yet, despite their efforts, they lost many regions and people. This final frontier was destroyed in a single night, and as Edina closed her eyes and took her final breath, the necklace on her glowed with pure energy before breaking.
The next thing she knew, she woke up in an uncomfortable bed, bathed in the piercing light streaming through the broken window.
Even on the final frontier of humanity, Edina couldn't recall ever sleeping on such an uncomfortable bed. It reminded her of her childhood, where she had grown accustomed to such discomfort. As she pondered this, she was abruptly jolted awake to find herself in her childhood room, surrounded by broken windows, dusty shelves, and her old cane by the bedside.
"Huh... dreaming about my past life in such detail now," she muttered to herself. Just then, the sliding door creaked open, and a haughty maid stormed in, her face twisted with rage. "What in the Ancestors' name are you still doing in bed, you crippled freak? You have class in 10 minutes, and Mistress Li Mei will chew me alive if you're late! Get up now or it's the darkroom for you!" Edina observed the scene with a reminiscent smile, recalling similar situations from her past. However, she couldn't help but feel that this recreation was a bit extreme; she had never seen Xiao Min so angry before. "Perhaps I'm dreaming or hallucinating in my final moments," she mused silently.
Xiao Min, dumbfounded by Edina's serene expression, refrained from slapping her out of fear of leaving a mark that the teacher might notice. Through gritted teeth, she warned, "If you don’t make it to class on time, I'll ensure you spend a week in the darkroom!" Edina, unfazed, responded nonchalantly, "Yeah, yeah, by the way what year is it?” She asked, Xiao Min threw an angry glare at her. “okay, I understand." With a vacant smile, Edina grabbed her cane and headed to the bath. Xiao Min was left speechless, wondering if Edina had lost her mind and what could possibly be wrong with the girl.
Edina quickly got ready and made her way toward her classroom, feeling a profound sadness wash over her as she walked. The familiar surroundings evoked a sense of nostalgia within her. Despite her physical limitations, she reached the entrance of her classroom in under five minutes, a skill honed over years of navigating with her cane. Edina couldn't help but question the authenticity of her experience; the swift journey seemed too efficient compared to her past travels to the Mu Mansion."Perhaps this is a mistake in the hallucination," she mused silently as she entered the room, greeted by the sight of her cousins' familiar faces. "They look just as they did in my childhood," she thought, a strange smile forming on her lips, causing Wei and Lin to exchange worried glances. Edina's unusual behavior left them wondering if something was amiss with her mental state; she had never smiled at them before.
As the teacher began the lesson, Edina found it boring to focus. After enduring two classes, she left the room abruptly, unaware that her departure had left Wei and Lin unable to torment her as they had planned. It wasn't intentional; Edina simply hadn't realized how much faster she was walking compared to her childhood self. Along the way, she spotted a woman with a familiar bun hairstyle engaged in conversation with an administrative staff member—it was her Aunt Li Mei. "Wow, even the bitch is alive in my dream," Edina remarked aloud, her voice tinged with disbelief. Hearing Edina's remark from across the corridor, Li Mei felt her blood boil. It was as if Edina had declared her dead, but she couldn't lash out at her at this moment with an administrative staff member present. She had to maintain her facade of being a caring aunt, so she chose to ignore Edina for the time being. However, when she glanced back in Edina's direction, she was nowhere to be seen. This puzzled Li Mei; Edina would have taken minutes to walk even a short distance, yet she had vanished from the hallway. Before she could dwell on it further, the staff member called out to her, prompting Li Mei to set aside her concerns and focus on the matter at hand.
Edina wandered around the Blazing Dawn Sect for a few hours, puzzling all the workers, students, and martial artists. It was a rare sight to see her outside her room without a clear purpose, as it had been a year since she last ventured out. Even when she did leave her room, she usually only attended to necessary tasks.
However, today, everyone found her roaming the entire sect without a specific reason which gave some people hope that maybe, she was finally stopping her mourning.
Upon returning to the Jinwei Mansion and entering her room, Edina wore a confused expression. She pondered, "If this is a dream, it would make sense for a few minutes to feel like a few hours or even longer. But I've been here for half a day now. Does that mean I am really in the past? Did I get a second chance at life? But why this time? Why not when I was just born or when my parents were alive? Why into my 13-year-old self?"
As Edina began to accept that this might not be a dream, the sliding door opened, and Xiao Min appeared. "Since you reached class on time, I decided to let you off this time. Here's your dinner," she announced, handing Edina a somewhat simple porridge to eat. Edina glanced at it and muttered, "Damn, I used to get this crap," before hesitantly eating it. Edina decided to turn in early. Her reasoning was simple: if she truly found herself in the past, then tomorrow would be the day when the merchant Keith Maxism would present the sect with the imperial jewel and ten thousand gold bars. She needed to take advantage of this situation.
