Adrien's POV
It's only been a day since Preston and I moved into our new apartment, but I was already in love with it. Everything about this apartment, this town...it was all just perfect.
A dream come true.
I still remember the day Preston and I drove down to view the place. I had been enamoured by the vintage architecture of all the shops and homes, the small businesses, the harmonious community and the park gardens. And the apartment itself, while dated and old-fashioned, was home. A bed of roses. Everything I could have wanted in a place for just Preston and me.
The perfect location. The perfect layout and lighting. The perfect everything.
"I can't decide on what flowers I want to get." I whined, scanning the various bouquets displayed on the tables and shelves. I didn't know how long I had been standing around, glancing back and forth at all the vibrant and blushing plants, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had been twenty minutes or more.
Preston and I initially came into town to grocery shop, seeing as we didn't have any food back at our apartment. But when I spotted the cute little flower shop that neighboured the farmer's market we were just at, I knew immediately that I had to check it out before we headed home. If our apartment were missing anything, it would be plants. And lots of them.
"You gotta pick one, babe. It's hot outside and our groceries will go bad if they sit out too long." Preston said. He came up to stand behind me. His sweet, woodsy cologne filled my senses and comforted me almost instantly. He lifted his hand and brushed his fingers through my hair, pressing a soft kiss against my temple.
"I know. I'm just being indecisive. They're all so pretty."
"What about these hyacinths?" He pointed to the pink and purple bouquet.
"No. They're pretty, but they're toxic to cats." I sighed and shook my head.
"Right. Don't worry, sweets. Whatever one you do choose, I already know it'll look nice in our home." Preston reassured. He brushed his fingers down from my hair to my back, rubbing soothing circles. I glanced up at him for a brief moment and smiled, nodding.
What felt like a millennia later, I eventually settled on a pink bouquet of orchids and roses. Preston took the bouquet to the counter where he paid for the flowers for me, and then, we got back into his car and drove home.
We got back to our apartment roughly seven minutes later, after another quick stop at the coffee shop for cold drinks. Latte greeted us as we walked in through the front door. He meowed loudly and walked around my legs in circles, before going up on his hind legs and scratching his front paws against my legs. I smiled wide. I dropped my grocery bags to the floor and knelt, scooping him into my arms.
"Did you miss us, my little love?" I pressed kisses against the top of his head. His meows quieted into purrs, and he gazed up at me with his cute little hazel-green eyes. I grinned and kissed his adorable nose. "We missed you too."
"What a little baby he is. Always begging for love and attention." Preston laughed. He leaned down and kissed Latte's forehead, careful not to drop all our groceries and coffee drinks.
"Sounds like someone else I know." I glanced up at Preston with a teasing grin. He rolled his eyes and pressed a quick peck against my lips.
"Then stop being so lovable."
"Hmm...I'll think about it."
Preston chuckled, his smile widening. After giving me another quick kiss, he carried all our groceries to the kitchen, including the ones I left on the floor.
He placed all the bags on the table, including our cold coffee drinks, and started putting everything away. I wandered into the kitchen with Latte still in my arms. After placing one last kiss on the top of his head, I put him back down on the floor, washed my hands, and helped Preston put away the groceries.
"What do you want for lunch?" I asked, taking a sip of my vanilla frappuccino. I handed Preston the carton of milk and eggs, and he put them in the fridge.
"Hm...I don't know, actually." Preston replied. When he was finished putting away the vegetables and raw meats he closed the fridge and leaned against it, rubbing his thumb over his lower lip in thought.
"I could make honey garlic chicken?" I suggested.
"Ooh, that sounds good." He hummed. "Potatoes too?"
"Of course." I laughed. Preston grinned. He moved to the table and picked up his iced caramel macchiato, taking a sip of it. His phone began vibrating against the table, and he picked it up, glancing at the screen.
"Who's texting?" I asked.
"Luka. He's just letting me know that he'll pick us up at 9:30 for our double date tonight." He replied, unlocking his phone and quickly typing a text back to him. I watched silently, a frown forming on my face, teeth biting my lip.
"Are you going to be okay? Going to a nightclub?" I asked a moment later. "We can always do something else for our date if you're uncomfortable."
Preston glanced up from his phone, raising his brow at me. "I'll be fine, babe."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure," Preston said. "We haven't been to a club in a while and honestly, I've been looking forward to dancing all night."
"Okay, but you know you can always tell me—"
"I know, babe. I always tell you when I'm uncomfortable, you know that." He interrupted me. I fell silent. Preston walked over to me and cupped my face with both hands. He flashed me a soft smile when I met his loving gaze.
"I love you. I'll be okay." He reassured. I nodded, smiling back at him.
"I love you too."
Preston kissed my forehead softly, then the tip of my nose, and finally, my lips. My smile widened and I kissed him back, throwing my arms around his neck. He kissed me deeper, coaxing my mouth open—he dipped his tongue inside, and his hands slipped down to my waist, pulling me tighter against him.
Just as the kiss was getting heated, Preston's hands roaming all over me, we were interrupted by another series of loud meows, and paws scratching at our legs. We pulled apart and glanced down at Latte as he continued to meow at us, his eyes wide and cries unrelenting.
"See? Always begging for attention." Preston scoffed. I burst out laughing. With a grin, I scooped Latte back into my arms and showered him in more kisses and cuddles.
"But he's our baby. How can you say no to this face?" I showed off Latte in my arms and his cute little content expression as he purred happily.
Preston shook his head and smiled. "I guess you can't."
"No, you can't."
