"Archer... are you ok?" I looked at my dad & took a large breath. "No Dad. I'm not ok. I mean... Mom was royalty. Like more royal than British Royalty, you knew & neither one of you ever told me-even after she died &... & I'm just supposed to be ok with that!?! Are you actually serious!?!" Dad hesitated, but nodded in understanding. He fiddled with a pen on his desk. "I know... I never wanted this for you. I never thought that I'd have to tell you alone. Selene was supposed to be the one to tell you; she was so excited to. Had a whole plan for how she would word it, bring you here, a whole party for you. With your mothers vision, you would've had a corination just for finding out. But unfortunately... not everything goes the way we want." I wasn't satisfied with that answer & Dad could tell. "Archer, if it was solely up to me, you would've grown up knowing. You would have had a better grip on your magic, known who you are, where you come from, known your extended family. But it wasn't up to me. Selene's original plan was to tell you once you were 13, so long as you were healthy. But when she passed... it changed things. You're hurting yes, but so was I. I now had to hide a whole part of my wife, your mother, your family from you for many, many more years than I was already ok with. I wasn't able to tell my son about how incredible his mother was other than generic words of kindness. I wasn't able to tell my son about how how strong he actually was. I wasn't able to tell my son about how important he is & will become, no matter what some stupid human says about him or his family." I huffed a bit, but relaxed; he had a point. "I'm sorry I never told you. I'm sorry I wasn't honest with you... but it was in her will; it was the last thing she asked of me. I wanted to honor that." I nodded as Dad continued. "Now, that being said, I don't think she knew The Broken Circle would be poking around for you. It most definately would've changed her mind." I let out a strained sigh, hearing eveything. I understood where he was coming from, & probably would've done the same thing. "I'm sorry... Dad, I'm sorry, I just-" "It's ok bud. You've gotta take it out on someone. I don't mind being the punching bag for this one; it's well deserved." we sat in silence for a while. "So... you're a King huh? You do anything cool?" Dad kind of chuckled. "In title alone. I'm more so just a place holder until you're ready. I don't do much, I'm just a mouth peice. But it's not too bad. Opal is usually in charge when I'm not here." he smirked. "I uh, I had plans to bring you here for your upcoming birthday so you could celebrate with the whole kingdom & finally tell you the truth but... well, that present has been spoiled." I smiled a bit, but it faded just as fast. "This... Broken Circle group... they're really that bad?" Dad gave a solemn nod, tapping his fingers on the table.
"Yeah... they are. Unfortunately. Essentially, they're extreamists. They'd do everything short of murder... until recently."
"How do you-"
"That video you saw? It's not the first one we've received. The same person sent us a warning about the new leader. He's not afraid to hurt others, or kill... after that, I sent Mytel to come get you."
"B-But why did Mytel react like that?"
"Not sure. I've only ever seen his dad act like that... it was only once, after Selene died. The only answer I have is that he's being protective of you, like he should be."
"..."
"He's not making you uncomfortable, is he?"
I went red for a second, but Dad noticed. "What...? Is something-oh. Ohhh... OHHHH! Really? Wow, though I'm not surprised. He's not that bad looking, nice job." I let out a nervous chuckle. "Can we not have this talk right now? Please, this is so embarrassing." Dad put his hands up. "Ok, ok... but you do like him right?" I gave Dad a serious look. "Thought so. Don't worry, I can keep a secret. Just wait until you meet his dad." my dad chuckled. "Oh boy, you'll like him for sure, I absolutely do not blame you." Dad seems to zone out a bit, before catching himself. "Anyway, it's probably best for you to get some rest. I know you need it." I shook my head. "Dad, I'm fine. I-" "I know. I know, but getting some rest may help, or at the very least, put you at ease." I gave a nod & stood up stretching. "... You look more like yourself now, y'know that? Seem more like yourself too... you look good." I smiled a bit. "You think so?" Dad nodded, a nostalgic grin. "Yeah... like me when I was your age, but a lot more handsome." I snorted. "Thanks Dad..." he nods as I walk out of his office.
Upon shutting the door, I sigh heavily, sinking down to the floor & covering my face. All the stress & exhaustion I had been feeling washed over me. I could barely stop myself from just falling on the floor. I took a deep breath, trying to steady my breathing. "Your Highness? Are you alright?" I glanced up & felt my heart in my throat. For a breif moment, I could only see a silver outline of a person, but as soon as it registered, she was a woman. She has long pink pigtails & clothes that could only be described as a black karate gi with pink trims; there was a faint gear pattern printed all over her outfit. On her forehead & chest is a pink gem, glowing faintly. "Your Highness?" I nodded. "Yeah, yeah, I'm ok. Just a bit... overwhelmed. It took a lot out of me." she nodded. "I can take you to your room for some proper rest, if you'd like." She offeres her hand & its a black claw with a pink glow to it; her arm has a pink tinge to it too. I take it nervously, & she pulls me up with minimal effort; I'm nearly thrown into the adjacent wall. "O-Oh sorry! I wasn't sure how much strength to use. Are you ok?" I steady myself; I was shocked. "Y-Yeah... yeah, I'm good." She grins. "Good, good. Follow me please." She starts walking & I trail behind her a bit. "My name is Rose; think of me as your family's personal body guard. My main duty is to protect your step-sister & your neice until or if they have powers develop. But, I am also able to help you out as well; so please, don't hesitate to ask me for anything, ok?" I give a nod. "Just... keep them safe ok? I'm not doing so great & I was meant to be here y'know? I can only imagine how Justice is taking all of this..." Rose turns around to flash me a quick smile. "Of course Your Highness. We've arrived at your door. I hope everything is to your liking." I chuckled, noticing that the door was very similar to my own bedroom door back home. "So long as it has a massive bed, I don't care."
Archer had always heard great things about his mom, Selene. She died protecting a young girl when he was five & ever since people tell him what a kind woman she was. The tragedy brought him & his dad closer, but there wasn't much to really remember her by. Sure, his dad showed him pictures & talked about her, despite getting remarried, but it wasn't the same. Archer had one thing though, his face. He always looked just like his mom, freckles & all, even while doing his own transition. One day however, he get's a note about his mother & that shakes his world to the core.
