He knew he had to get some answers, looking at his watch realizing it was getting too late to call his grandfather.
He felt impatient, needing to know the answers to the questions.
Adelmo went back where Lana was standing to see how she was doing, and realized she was doing the routines to close down the shop for the day.
Adelmo felt confused, “He just looked at his watch and didn’t think it was that late.” Looking again, even more confused, which turned into a shocking look.
Thinking to himself, “My eyes must have been doing tricks on me.”
He went over to Lana, with his heart racing trying to play it cool, asked Lana, catching her off guard, “Do you want to grab something to eat after we are done here?”
Lana’s heart filled with joy, her face lit up, “Yes, I would love to.” Thinking it would be like a date.
Adelmo had a feeling of excitement in him. He was asking her as a friend to grab something to eat. He couldn't help but feel happy about spending time with her outside of work. They finished closing up the store and headed to Adelmo's usual diner, nothing fancy.
They went into the diner, the same bubbly waitress from months ago that sat him and Nik. She didn’t seem so bubbly today, and seated him and Lana at their table.
They both got up simultaneously and went to use the restroom. When they both reached the restroom, Adelmo looked in the mirror. Dragging his fingers through his hair trying to straighten it up. Splashed some cold water in his face. Drying off and cupped his hand huffing into it to smell his breath. He looked in the mirror ready to head back out to the table. He whispered to himself, “Come on Adelmo, you can do this.”
With his heart racing nervously, he walked back out to the table.
Even though Adelmo's intentions were only thought of as dinner with a friend, he secretly really liked her so he wants to make himself look as good as he could for Lana.
Meanwhile, Lana went into the restroom, fluffed her hair, touched-up her make-up, straightened up her clothes, and popped a breath mint in her mouth.
She had always really liked Adelmo and knew this was her chance to make a lasting impression on him. She left the restroom to go back to their table. Exiting the restroom at that same time. They make eye contact with each other. With mutual feeling, they both develop butterflies in their stomachs.
Adelmo smiled, “Boy you sure look beautiful.” He realized those words escaped his thoughts and were said out loud. His face turned red, and he looked at the ground.
Lana smiles as she begins to blush. She noticed by his body language that those words weren’t meant to be heard, “Thank you, you look handsome yourself.”
Hearing those words, he had a sign of relief. It was right then he knew he didn’t stick his foot in his mouth.
They both went back to their seats and sat down.
Adelmo looked at Lana, continued to think, “How beautiful she looked.”
Lana looked over in Adelmo's direction with those love-struck eyes, “He seemed so much more handsome today.” She thought to herself.
They order their food: Lana ordered a Cajun burger with everything on it and Adelmo ordered a Jalapeño burger with pepper-jack cheese with the works. The waitress walked away to put in their order.
They began to talk about everything that had been going on.
While talking, Adelmo overheard the waitress that sat them at their table talking to another waitress about her boyfriend, “My boyfriend took a trip to Germany 10 days ago. We spoke to each other daily, telling me how his trip was going, but suddenly the calls stopped.” She had a worried look on her face. She hoped he was just busy and passed out with all the excitement of his trip.
Then earlier that day she saw the same news that Adelmo saw about dozens of people missing over in Germany. Then the worries started again, beginning to panic inside, hoping he was OK.
Adelmo mentioned to Lana, “Did you just hear what they were talking about?”
“No, what were they talking about?” With a confused look.
“She mentioned her boyfriend was over in Germany and stopped calling around the same time the people went missing on the news.”
She was fearful for that girl, but no one knew what was going on over there.
She knew in time, the more things that came up, Adelmo would put himself into some sort of danger.
All she knew was she didn’t want anything to happen to him.
They then discussed other stuff, reminiscing about old times from high school. Time flew by, and their dinner turned into a 4-hour date. Their food came and went.
Lana took a glimpse at her watch and realized that it was going on 10 o’clock but wanted to stay talking with him as long as she could.
Moments later, Adelmo looked at the clock, feeling exhausted from everything that had been stressing him out.
“We should probably get going. It’s getting late. Thank you for having dinner with me.”
“It was my pleasure, Adelmo. Thank you for inviting me.”
Adelmo walked Lana out to her car and watched her drive off.
Adelmo walked over to his car, hopped inside and drove home. They both pulled into their home around the same time thinking about each other and how much they had fun talking to each other.
They both prepared themselves for bed and laid down under the covers. Thinking about each other as they slowly drifted off into a deep sleep.
They both began dreaming the same dream as they had done the night before. The feeling of it was surreal. Adelmo knocked on the door to see if anyone would answer. No one was there. He tried to just walk in, and felt the door was unlocked as he turned the nob.
He told Lana, “Come in, stay close to me.”
He then hollers, “HELLO! GRANDFATHER ARE YOU HERE!?” Assuming this was his place.
The place has an eerie feeling of emptiness to it, wandering around searching for someone.
When done searching the place, not finding anyone, they decide to leave.
Adelmo spoke, “This can’t be my grandfather’s place. It has to be the neighbor.”
They both suddenly wake up in confusion about what was going on. Wondering why they are having a dream about each other again. They got out of bed and did their morning routines of getting ready for the day, thinking about the dream while getting ready.
