We’re all seated in Lennox’s office. Eugene didn’t have to be here, but he is. We’re discussing Lennox’s schedule. I think that he shouldn’t go anywhere until this is all settled. This obviously doesn’t please him, but I don’t care about pleasing him. He’s blackmailing me to protect him, not make him happy. I don’t care what he thinks. I have to keep his dumbass safe until we are able to find out who is after him. Doesn’t he realize this?
“I understand that serial killers are after me…” Lennox starts on his bullshit again.
I don’t think that he gets it.
If he really understood how serious this is, he would agree to stay at only my place, and not go anywhere else. Not even his office. Even though he now has a bullet proof car, all these men need is a mere second. He is weak and easy to kill; he is just lucky that he is smart.
“But I don’t want to live my life like a prisoner.” Lennox finishes, folding his arms across his chest, “it’s not right and I want to live a good life.”
“It’s only for a little while.” Holly tries to comfort him, “Silas can guard you, but you still have to take necessary precautions.”
“Fine.” Lennox sighs, pouting a little bit, “I guess it makes sense.”
Leave it to Holly to talk some sense into him.
“But before I sign my life away… I want to go somewhere.” Lennox peeks up at me with those hopeful eyes, “just for tonight.”
Not enough sense got into him apparently.
“Where?” Eugene asks, tilting his head to the side because he is obviously confused.
Lennox smiles wickedly. He didn’t have to say anything.
Eugene shakes his head, as if he is done with Lennox’s shit, “you’ve got to be kidding me.”
I glance at Holly to see if she understands what is going on, but she just shrugs. I have this bad feeling that Lennox is going to say something ridiculous. I wouldn’t put it past him.
“So, where?” Holly asks again.
“A club.” Eugene answers her.
Well, it’s obvious none of Holly’s sense talk got to Lennox.
“A club?” Holly turns to face Lennox, “do you not care about your life at all?”
“Of course, I do.” Lennox protests, as if it is really that simple, “I don’t want to just throw my life away because someone wants to kill me.”
Well, I would hope so. It really doesn’t seem like it though. I think that he might have a death wish. I think it is quite dumb that he would want to go to a club. A club is not something that he needs.
“But I’m about to be restricted to only two places for God knows how long… I just want to go out tonight before I sign my life over to you two.” Lennox grumbles, sounding a bit irritated with everything going on, “I’d like to get dick, but I doubt that’ll happen, so I’ll have to settle for something else.”
He’s always so dramatic. I don’t know how any man could handle him. He is honestly too much, and I wonder how he has even had relationships. I feel bad for them.
“Besides, didn’t you say Silas is going to guard me?” Lennox continues, looking at me once again, “shouldn’t he be guarding me with what I want to do?”
They all turn to look at me. It’s times like this that I wish I had killed Lennox that night. Just because I’m protecting him doesn’t mean that I need him to be going out and doing unnecessary shit. But maybe this will finally make him shut up. I guess I can use him for my own desires.
“Just tonight?” I ask him, and he nods rapidly.
He seems really eager. Just for one night… What could possibly go wrong? Maybe it’ll get him to shut up and stop complaining. It would be really nice.
“Fine, we will go to the club.” I decide to give in, hoping I don’t regret it.
His face lights up like a kid on a Christmas morning, “YAY! I’m so excited. I haven’t been dancing in so long! I know I could have scored tonight but maybe you’ll keep me…”
“But after tonight, you’re going to listen to everything I say.” I make it clear to him, having to lay down the boundaries so he doesn’t get any smart ideas, “everywhere you go has to be approved of by me first, got it? Do not even try to protest or I will lock you away and throw away the key.”
He nods rapidly, “yes, I got it. You don’t have to worry about me.”
“Holly, check out the club.” I tell her, causing her to nod, “make sure it’s safe.”
“It’s safe.” Lennox tries to assure, but I just glare at him.
“Holly would still need to go check it out.” I explain to him, already feeling agitated, “besides, I do not trust you.”
“Okay.” He whispers, deciding to be a little obedient finally.
Holly walks out and Eugene follows, going after her like a little puppy. I wonder what’ll come from that, but Holly is just not someone who would settle down. I know how she is; it is as simple as that. I doubt that nerd would win her over either way.
“I didn’t think you’d agree.” Lennox admits to me, fiddling with his fingers, “why did you?”
“I give you one night, and I get you to obey my every order until we are done here.” I murmur, shrugging my shoulders, “I think it is a fair trade.”
I leave Lennox to think about what he had just signed up for. It’s kind of funny to see him messing around like that, making me want to play with him now. He doesn’t know what I am capable of, and I’ll do everything to make sure that this time, he will have no choice but to submit.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The club is fancier than most, but it is still a typical club with loud music. Sweaty people who are intoxicated and very horny, and fairly nice alcohol. I’ve never seen the need to go to a club. I don’t like anything about it since I could get drunk in the comfort of my home without any of the fuss. But apparently, Lennox thinks differently.
Holly had scouted out the place before we got here, and she confirmed that it’s safe. We’re at the VIP section. It is quiet up here as quiet as a club can be. Lennox and Eugene are seated in a booth, just relaxing a little bit. I pulled Holly away a few minutes ago to talk to her. I haven’t said a word because I want her to get intimidated by my silence. It works on other people, but I don’t think it’s working on her. She’s been staring at me as hard as I’ve been staring at her. She might strain her neck if she doesn’t stop soon. Even with the boots, I’m still much taller than her. She has really been irritating me because it’s not something that I’m going to easily be able to do.
“I know you have something to say.” She gives up and massages her neck with her hand, “so just say it.”
I want to tease her about how short she is, but I can’t. Not her, not now. I need to figure out precisely what her intentions are with that nerd. I can’t have her catching feelings and messing up the plan.
“What’s up with you and Eugene?” I ask her, seeing how she is looking at me in confusion, “we’re not here to make friends, Holly. We’re here to do a job. Don’t fall for him.”
“You think I don’t know that?” She whisper-yells at me, “why would you ask me something like that?”
“The drinks are right here, you guys!” Lennox yells from the booth, and we just ignore him.
“Explain it to me then.” I growl at her, hating that I have to talk like this to her but sometimes I don’t have a choice, “make me understand. Why are you so friendly with him?”
It’s not that I hate seeing her with Eugene. I couldn’t care less. I just don’t want her being distracted right now. Any mistake and I could go to prison. And if he turns out to be the bad guy, I don’t want her to get hurt either.
“I understand what this mission means to you, and I would never jeopardize your safety for anything,” Holly assures me, offering a small smile, “I think that Eugene knows something.”
I know that. I just want to make some sense as to what I have been noticing…
We both turn to glance at Eugene who’s laughing with Lennox. Lennox might not know who’s after him, but a few people do come to mind. The first would be his uncle, but he died before Lennox became the Don of the Mafia gang. It’s obvious now that it’s not him.
The second on the list at the moment is Eugene.
Yes, they’re best friends but that doesn’t matter when money is involved. If Lennox dies, not only would he get the company, but he would also be the Don. Every one of them would respect him for being ruthless enough to murder his best friend. I’ve seen it happen too many times.
They’d happily give him the crown.
“I don’t think he’s, our guy.” Holly clarifies, shaking her head slightly, “I just think that he knows something. That’s kind of how it feels right now.”
“Why don’t you think he’s, our guy?” I ask her, feeling a bit curious, “all the signs are pointing straight at him. He would have the biggest motive.”
She doesn’t answer me. I know why, she’d like to not think of him that way. She does have to be logical in her reasoning though.
“People only show us the part of themselves that they want to,” I warn her, hoping she is not getting feelings involved in this, “don’t trust the surface.”
“I understand, which is why I’m keeping an eye on him.” She glances over at him again, “if he is really our guy, I will find out.”
“Good.” I give her a small smile, “I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions.”
“It’s fine, I get it.” She grins at me, “now if you’ll excuse me… I have someone to dance with.”
She winks at me and goes to the booth where Lennox and Eugene are. She says something to Eugene, and he gets up and leaves with her. I join Lennox at the booth, and he grins, obviously a little tipsy. I sit opposite of him, but the booth is not that big so our legs touch. I scoot to the other side to avoid any contact. I don’t like how he makes me feel either way so I’m doing my best to stay as far away from him as possible.
“I don’t bite, you know.” He teases me, a glimmering look in his eyes, “unless you’d want that.”
I say nothing in response. I’m doing my job guarding him but that doesn’t mean I have to talk to him. I know wishing that he would stop talking is futile, but a man can dream. Honestly though, I think he’ll die if he stops talking for too long. I wonder what it would take to make him be quiet.
“Do you want to dance?” He suddenly asks me, looking like he wants to move.
