PRESENT.
I wake up with tears streaming down my face, startled.
I let out a groan, knowing this was going to happen. I annoyingly wipe them off with the back of my hand. I don’t bother dwelling on anything. The dreams come and go as they please. Today has been a more pleasant one, so I should be thankful. Getting out of bed, I start to prepare for my day even though my clock reads four-AM. I’m never going to be able to go back to sleep, so there is no point in staying in bed and letting my thoughts wander to places I don’t want them to.
I can’t.
Even though I wish I was in the Bahamas right now, I’m kind of excited about the new challenge Lennox brings to my life. Not the man himself, he’s just annoying. I would like to find out about who is after him, and I can’t wait to meet the killers that he will send next. Not what I had planned, but I am looking forward to it…
Except for being with Lennox.
I can tell he is just going to make me want to strangle him every second, but I won’t. I’ll summon every ounce of my self-control. I don’t know why he gets on my nerves so much because normally, people like him don’t bother me. I guess I’ll figure this out the hard way if anything. He’s going to be lucky if I don’t murder him for being annoying and testing my patience.
Let’s just hope I have a lot of it.
UNKNOWN.
In the dark room of the club, a group of people sit around, the tension thick in the air. Everyone knows why they are here, that they are in trouble. No one has accomplished the job that Lord Krane asked them to do. Most thought that Gray would get the job done, knowing that Gray is really good about disposing of all the right people.
But he didn’t, and Lennox Cambridge is still alive. Everything has failed and it seems like it is not going to go the way that everyone had hoped. Now, Lord Krane is pissed and when they are pissed, someone is going to die.
More than likely, it shall be one of them.
“So, tell me why Gray didn’t get the job done when so many of you vowed he would.” Lord Krane murmurs, leaning back in their chair, frowning, “I know he is a skilled assassin, but it seems like he doesn’t know how to get the job done. I’m afraid that all of you have failed me in achieving my goals..."
Something nobody wants to do.
"We will hire someone else!” One of the members murmurs quickly, hoping to make amends, “if anyone can deal with this problem, it should be her. She is quite capable of handling anybody who stands in her way. She is quite ruthless if you ask me. She will do anything so long as the pay is well.”
Lord Krane tilts their head to the side, and the air almost becomes frosty, “don’t fail me a second time, or I will be getting rid of all of you and replacing you with more competent people who know how to get the job done.”
Everyone knew that Lord Krane would do it, too.
This is the last chance to do the right thing, or EVERYONE will be dead.
