LENNOX.
Today is the day. Today is a special day.
I never thought this day would come but here it is. It’s a bit dangerous considering who I have decided to tangle myself up with, but it is pretty clear to me that I’m going to get my way one way or another. I won’t let anyone take this from me. Not again. Eugene on the other hand is a nervous wreck, pacing back and forth because he does not like this plan one bit. He thinks I’m crazy for it. We’re just waiting for Silas. I’m excited to see him again but Eugene would rather this not be happening.
“Will you please stop with the pacing?” I ask him, hating how it is rubbing off on my happiness, “you’re being annoying.”
“If you get to have that creepy smile on your face then I get to have anxiety.” Eugene retorts, giving me that familiar annoyed look, “I don’t know why you’re so excited to face death.”
I don’t think my smile is creepy. I stop smiling, but I continue to watch the elevator. I can see through my office glass walls. I’m anxious to have him here already, wondering what precisely would come from this. I’m playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse, and this man probably is in the lead right now.
“You don’t have to be here, you know?” I remind him, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt but I’m really wanting to play with my little Silas right now.
He finally sits down, probably trying to calm himself down, “no, I do. I must make sure that he’s not here to kill you himself.”
“He agreed to protect me.” I tell him for what feels like the thousandth time, “he won’t go back on his word.”
He still doesn’t believe that I could blackmail Silas. I still don’t believe it myself, sometimes I think I’m crazy for doing it. Other times, I pat myself on the back for coming up with the genius idea that got this man in the palm of my hands. Eugene starts to say something, but the elevator dings and we both turn to look at it…
Silas is here.
I watch him walk out of the elevator, wearing a well-tailored suit in the color… Well, black, of course. His hair is perfectly styled, and his previous stubble is long gone. He looks so out of place. Everyone is staring at him, not even trying to hide it either. I don’t blame them; he is an Adonis. He speaks to Sandra, my assistant, and she leads him towards my office. I am thankful he can’t see into my office because I’m sure I would have been caught staring.
I clear my throat, trying to compose myself. He is here, that’s great. Let’s not freak out. I glance at Eugene, seeing how he is staring at the lady next to Silas. I can’t believe I didn’t notice her before. She’s stunning and with the look on Eugene’s face, I think he agrees with me, maybe she will be interested in cute nerds. The door opens and Sandra walks in first, having already known that Silas was coming.
“I’ve a Mr. Gray here to see you.” She announces, but I can tell by the look on her face that she is a bit worried, “would you like me to bring in refreshments?”
I stand up from my chair and walk towards him. His grey eyes take me, his expression blank as usual. I bet I can get a reaction out of him sooner or later… Hopefully sooner. I don’t want to be the only one having fun in this game.
“Thanks, Sandra. You may go back.” I tell her, smiling to show her it is going to be alright, “don’t worry about us unless I call for you.”
She gives me a nod before walking out, “of course, sir.”
“Morning, Silas.” I murmur softly, my heart stuttering in my chest.
“Gray.” He corrects me, his eyes darkening if even possible, “this is Holly. My assistant.”
He introduces me to her. We shake hands for formality. The tension is thick in the air and quite obvious. I’m hoping I’m not wrong about them and they will help me without trying to kill me.
“Nice to meet you, Holly.” I tell her, seeing how she is looking at me strangely.
She just nods. Is she a quiet one like her boss? He must have rubbed off on her. I turn towards Eugene, motioning him to come forward. He adjusts his glasses before coming beside me. Yep, he is smitten by her.
“This is my best friend and business partner, Eugene.” I murmur, hoping that he doesn’t make a fool out of himself, “Eugene, meet Silas and Holly.”
“Hello, Mr. Gray.” Eugene whispers and I sigh, “it’s nice to meet you.”
Oh god, Gene, why? I love him but seriously. He couldn’t even keep his fear hidden for the sake of Holly. I glance at Holly who is now smiling. Hmm, I guess Gene might still have a chance if she finds him amusing. I don’t know how though.
“Have a seat.” I motion them to do so, “we have a lot to discuss.”
Holly and Silas sit down. I do the same with Eugene. The tension is a little thick in the air and I’m not quite sure what to do about it. An icebreaker would be the best but I’m almost certain that Silas would have my ass for it. So, I decide to just jump straight into it so I don’t die.
“I’ve prepared the contract. You can choose to give it a read.” I tell Silas, hoping that he is okay with it, “if any adjustments are needed, let me know but I don’t believe it will be necessary.”
I pass Silas the contract and he reads it thoroughly. There are no hidden clauses. It just says that if I die, the video goes to the police. This way, he must protect me and find out whoever wants me dead. I think it is as simple as that, but I know he might not be so kind to me if we keep playing this game. Silas signs the contract, a look of displeasure on his face. After he’s done, I take it and sign it, too.
I guess in a way he is mine now.
Those thoughts make me smile.
