I was always able to see things. From smallest details in my surroundings, to items more than a mile away. I never suspected that there was anything wrong, because I had always been like that. My parents raised me like any normal loving parents, and for the first few years of my life, I was content and happy. But that never lasts long.
I don't know exactly what happened, but one day, everything went up in flames.
It was so sudden. There was an explosion, and bandits started barging into our small town. I was only 5 years old at the time, but I could make out every detail in what was going on. The scorching flames, the faces of the villagers as the bandits came in. And only after they started talking did I know what they were really after.
"Where's the gifted one?" The leading bandit growled. He was big and broad, and he had the scariest sword I could ever imagine strapped to his back. His eyes themselves looked like they could pierce you with that glare.
"What are you talking about?" My dad was trembling. He looked at my mom and mother one word.
"Run."
And so she did. With me in her hands she ran and ran away from the monsters who were burning up our village. But, she did not go unnoticed. One of the bandits saw us, and started running after us. My mom headed to the forest at the back of the village. It was so dense there that no one ever wanted to go there. But my mom just kept running, running so much she was eventually too deep into the forest. She suddenly had nowhere to go.
I was dizzy. All the sights I was seeing were too much for me to take in. I almost didn't process the moment the bandit caught up to us. In that last moment as he was bringing is sword up, my mom screamed. Screamed so loud you would have thought ever creature in the forest would have heard us. And then, the bandit slashed my mother's back.
I was falling, falling from her grasp, but I knew I had to run too. I didn't even get a chance to look at my mother's bleeding body. There was a small gap, right infront of me, if only I could just get there-
"Where are you going." The bandit stepped infront of me. He looked even bigger than before, massive even. He took out a strange item and looked at me through it.
It was square in shape and glinted with a strange light. After only a moment, it suddenly it glowed. And after looking at it the bandit smiled such a malicious smile, that even now, I still have nightmares about it.
"Oh, looks like your the one ehh. Don't worry, I only need you to hold still for just a moment-"
And with that he lunged at me to strike my head with his sword. I did't know what was happening, but I could see his movement, how he lunged forward and was about to slice my head off. I didn't know what was happening, so I did the only thing I could try to do. I dodged.
But it didn't end up the way I expected. I didn't move fast enough. And just as I was twisting my head, I could feel his blade, slicing my skin, right by my face, where my eyes are.
Where my eyes were.
I could feel the sword, the way it cut into my skin, the way I could feel the blood, dripping down my face. The way the sudden blackness surrounded me. And then I felt the pain.
It was so fierce, so bright that I just screamed. I couldn't feel anything where my eyes once were. There want only a darkness that enveloped me and surrounded me.
I could no longer see the trees, the grass, the bandit's face as he slashed my face. There was nothing.
