Immediately afterwards, Mitsuru closed the album, stood up and immediately took it to Daitaro, who held it while looking puzzled. “Oh?” “I'm not interested in looking at the photos but I thought it would be more helpful than the TV,” said the blue-eyed one as he saw his brother opening the album. A big smile decorated his face moments later, he seemed to be melting with what he saw. What could his brother be seeing to make him so happy? “Look, it’s you guys as babies,” Daitaro said as he showed the photos to Mitsuru, “Haha, Daiki looks adorable, don't you think?” “You know that if you call him adorable, you're calling yourself adorable, right?” “But look, Daiki already looked grumpy from such a young age. How cute!" Mitsuru raised an eyebrow at the comment. "And you?" "Huh? Well, I don't feel much looking at myself, I'm just glad I was with Daiki and you guys in the photos.” Mitsuru didn't understand the answer but decided not to pay much attention to it. When looking at the photographs, however, he realized that most of them were of his brothers and very few of him. “Don't let the favoritism show…” “You know well that if I had taken the photos, there would have been many of you all, but these were taken by our parents and probably by our uncle.” “Yes, I guess they didn't really want to take many photos after I was born.” Upon hearing this, the redhead gave him an expression of genuine concern. “It's not like that, surely things happened that didn't let them take many photos, with you they already had four babies after all” “We're not so many years apart that it justifies me not appearing in many of the photos…” Mitsuru commented without any specific tone. “…” Daitaro's expression fell, as he really didn't know what to say. It was a valid comment and he didn't have an answer that could justify it. Noticing his brother's change in attitude, Mitsuru sighed and looked away. “But it's not like I care, I'm not as childish as Daiki.” Mitsuru changed the page of the album to one where Masaru and Daiki were in a staring duel against two boys and a girl. They looked about 5-6 years old. “Oh, I remember this day,” Daitaro said. “We had gone to the park for a picnic and there a boy took off Daiki's cap. Surely you remember how angry he got? “...I don't remember, but I can get an idea” "No? Masaru joined Daiki in retrieving the cap for him and at some point, Masaru took one of the toys from one of the other boys. "So they were fighting to get the cap back in exchange for the toy." “It sounds like a really fun thing to remember. Daiki still gets angry if anyone takes his cap off outside the apartment” Mitsuru said with a smile. “He's lucky that he can wear his hat to school even though it has to be the one that represents the school.” “Yes, he loves his cap and even though he doesn't like the school cap, he prefers that to walking around without it outside the house,” Daitaro explained. “I don't understand it, but that's just how he is.” “So he did get his cap back in the end or did he need a new one?” “Well…, I remember that they threw Daiki's cap into the lake with a stone inside. In response, Masaru broke the boy's toy and went into the lake to look for his cap. "Just for the cap…?” “Are you really surprised?” the red-eyed one questioned with a smile. “Daiki had already resigned himself to losing it but Masaru entered the lake without thinking twice.” “And he got it back?” “Yes, and Daiki still has it even though it no longer fits him” Hearing that, the blond thought about this before laughing briefly. Daiki can be very cheesy, he thought. “He was very angry at Masaru for having entered the lake without thinking, but since he still has the cap, I know it meant a lot to him. Also, our parents really scolded him for doing that, they were really frightened,” the redhead explained as he turned the page. “Oh” Mitsuru saw a photo of him when he was younger in the bathtub with many frogs accompanying him. “I remember this too, you put all those frogs in the bathtub and they made us check the house to see if there were any runaway frogs. It's a mystery how you managed to get so many into the house." “I vaguely remember that, I think I should retake that photo to compare,” Mitsuru suggested, finding it funny. “Hey... Don't even think about bringing them into the apartment,” said Daitaro, not wanting to look for frogs all over the place again. “If that happened, I'm sure Masaru would have fun looking for them, you know he loves having excuses to move around.” “Mitsuru…” “I know, I know, but I can’t make any promises,” the blue-eyed one responded while sticking out his tongue. It was then that they both heard the doorbell ring. “Hey! Can you open the door?! You guys have the keys!” Masaru exclaimed from outside. Daitaro and Mitsuru searched their pockets and sure enough, they found the keys. "Coming!" Daitaro exclaimed as he now stood up. “I'm sure it will be more fun to see the photos together another time” “Whatever,” Mitsuru replied as he closed the album. He stood up and grabbed it to take it back to where he had found it. Daitaro followed his brother with his eyes and couldn't help but wonder... Had he done or said something wrong?
Returning to the condo, Masaru got out of the elevator very excited about getting to make the pancakes, while Daiki walked still grumpy from the previous conversation with his brother, as he couldn't get out of his head the stupid logic that the other had used to refuse him. “Good morning, children!” exclaimed a familiar voice. Looking in her direction, Daiki noticed the neighbor who seemed to have interrupted her activity of watering her flowers in order to say hello. “Oh, good morning, Mrs. Abigail!” Masaru answered cheerfully. The neighbor left her watering can aside and instead joined her hands together, interlacing her fingers in a sign of happiness. “I plan to bake some cookies later, would you like some?.” At the offer, Masaru smiled from ear to ear, while Daiki interrupted his thoughts of annoyance towards his brother to pay attention to the woman’s words. Masaru turned to Daiki, who had calmly approached while the neighbor patted Masaru on the head as if to say 'good boy'. “Did you hear that? There will be cookies, cheer up!” “You're the only one who cheers up for that, idiot” “It's okay for Daiki to come with me, right?” the green-eyed boy asked the lady who went from patting him to pulling his cheeks, an act that made Masaru close his eyes expressing some discomfort and pain. “Haha, Mrs. Abigail, that hurts…” Daiki watched this and gradually felt his stomach boil. He couldn't explain it, but he was really starting to get irritated by what he was witnessing. “Oh, I'm sorry, it's just that your cheeks are so adorable!” As soon as she finished saying this, Daiki pulled his brother by his hood forcefully, this in order to make him back off. Masaru looked surprised by the action but he just stared confused at the redhead seconds later. “Yes, I want cookies after all,” Daiki declared as he now looked at the neighbor in a challenging manner. “Is that a problem?” “Of course it’s not a problem! You’re also very adorable!” the lady exclaimed as she now pulled Daiki’s cheeks with much amusement. Masaru couldn’t help but laugh mockingly in response, this while Daiki fought against his urge to hit the adult so that she would leave him alone. “Heh, she got you too,” Masaru said in a whisper. “Shut up,” Daiki replied, not finding the current situation funny. “By the way, Masaru, what happened to your eyes? I couldn’t help but see them a little red,” the woman mentioned. The green eyed boy laughed briefly, not wanting to talk about the subject in front of Daiki. “By the way! Can we invite Daitaro and Mitsuru too?” The redhead noticed the attempt to avoid answering. He knew his eyes looked odd, but due to the argument they had had, he had missed the chance to ask him. “Oh, I asked them before you guys arrived, but it seems that Daitaro is very concerned about consuming sugar.” “And Mitsuru?” “He likes ice cream more, doesn’t he?” the woman suggested as Daiki finally managed to break free. Masaru thought about her words for a moment before looking at her with concern. “Mrs. Abigail…?” “Don’t worry about it, honey. He can come, it’s just…” she said as she held the black-haired boy’s hands. Daiki paid attention to this and couldn’t help but feel really put off for some reason. “It’s just…?” “I would like to invite him when I make ice cream, the cookies I made are especially for you,” the neighbor explained. Daiki’s attention was still on the woman’s hands holding his brother’s. Why did she have to do that? Besides, she was moving her thumb side to side over Masaru's hand, which was really bothering him. “So it's not because you don't like my brother, right?” the green-eyed boy asked suspiciously. “What?! Heavens, no!” she said as she let go of him and clasped her hands against her chest as if she had heard something unacceptable. “Actually, it's the opposite!” “...?” Masaru raised an eyebrow upon hearing this. How could that make sense? “He's a precious child, a real beauty…, but I don't think I would be able to manage.” Hearing this, Daiki frowned, now displeased for one more reason on his list of weird comments that inexplicably bothered him. “What does that mean…?” Masaru questioned, looking completely lost. “Of course, I'm talking about his adorable cheeks!” said the woman as she held her own cheeks and closed her eyes as if she was imagining something. Daiki and Masaru wondered if all the old women were just as weird as her. The black-haired calmed down when he understood that she wasn't putting his brother down so he just scratched the back of his head. “Ahaha, I wish he was here to hear that, although he doesn't like having his cheeks pulled.” “And who does?” Daiki asked as he felt his cheeks swollen because of the woman. “But don’t worry, little angel, I enjoy baking cookies more than making ice cream” the neighbor said as she crouched down so that she was at the height of the green-eyed boy, apparently trying to prevent Masaru from feeling less special; however, Masaru only looked at her curiously. “Really?” “Yes! You want chocolate chip cookies, right?” “Of course! I love freshly baked cookies!” Masaru exclaimed excitedly. Daiki, noticing the woman about to grab his brother’s shoulders, immediately moved to turn him around and push him lightly towards the apartment door. “Okay, that’s enough.” “Boss?” “Make sure to come later!” “Of course, Mrs. Abigail!” Masaru replied before Daiki pushed him inside the apartment and closed the door. The redhead sighed, he thought it was better to avoid mentioning what had happened with the woman, at least if he wanted to avoid ruining his twin's breakfast. The good thing about this was that Masaru wouldn't say anything either since Daitaro didn't like him going to her apartment for cookies.
