Brushing strands of hair away from her face each time the refreshing night breeze blew, Aurora immersed herself in the world of the notebook, which told a story of love. Love, or to love, had always been a question in Aurora's mind since she was young. What meanings lay hidden behind that word? Aurora, who had truly experienced love but refused to accept its implications or carry its burdens in her existence, found the words shining brightly on the pages of the notebook. However, the ringing of the phone shattered the calm surrounding her, despite the surveillance, which also felt like noise to her. The phone rang with a soft tone that momentarily shook Aurora's being until she saw the caller ID displayed as "My Little Rabbit," indicating it was her younger brother calling. Without hesitation, she closed the notebook and held it in her hand as she answered the phone, saying,
"Joseph, have you missed me?" A radiant smile spread across her captivating face as Joseph, the twenty-year-old boy who had been with her uncle at the bar earlier, sat on the steps in front of Aurora's house, saying,
"I'm on your side, but no one's here." Aurora smiled and replied, "I'm on my way back." Then she hung up and began to walk towards her house with grace and lightness, heading towards her brother, leaving the observer to follow suit behind her. Without the need for further explanation, or perhaps because she was confident that no danger could shake her home, she knew that the greatest danger was her.
Aurora quickly reached her home, where she found her younger brother, who towered over her in height.
She delicately touched his strands of blonde hair, saying, "I'm here."
It was as if she were a nurturing mother and Joseph, a mischievous child. Joseph pounced on his sister, embracing her with a smile. Aurora took his hand as she opened the door to the house, which her uncle had repaired and cleaned. She said, "You crave food from my hands, don't you, chef?" Joseph nodded, and they entered together.
Joseph, a chef with his own restaurant, always showed enthusiasm towards Aurora's cooking. As for Aurora, she continued to study while practicing killing as a profession. After all, she was the heir to the "Al Batris" family.
Joseph sat on one of the chairs at the kitchen table while Aurora meticulously chopped vegetables, exchanging banter with her brother. Eventually, Joseph inquired, "Have you visited the estate recently?"
Aurora replied, "No, it's been a long time. Mom and Dad would be furious. What chaos."
Joseph jokingly mimicked their father's movements, saying,
"You disappear and reappear suddenly. Are we playing hide and seek here?" Aurora chuckled in response.
The siblings enjoyed a lengthy conversation until the early hours of the morning when sleep overtook them both. They sprawled on the couch, resembling tired children worn out from a day of play. There was no need to remind them that they were the pampered children of the Al Batris family, as well as the offspring of assassins who controlled half of the northwest of the Kingdom of Mor, while the other half was under the rule of the Selvedor family. These two families were constantly vying for control of the shadows in the Kingdom of Mor.
As the clock struck eight in the morning, Aurora and Joseph were greeted by the sound of knocking on the door—unusual for her to have visitors other than her uncle and brother.
However, Aurora recognized the knocker, so she instructed Joseph to stand in the kitchen with his back to the door. He was well-known to any family he belonged to, unlike his sister, who kept everything about herself hidden, like a ghost in the world of crime. The echo of her name shook the dark side of the kingdom, but her appearance remained entirely unknown.
Therefore, she had no visitors. Her brother, who visited her occasionally, always awaited his steps, avoiding exposure, just as their uncle did.
As if she had just woken up, Aurora began to speak softly as she opened the door gently to find a person unknown to her, but she quickly recognized him as the person who had been lurking around her the previous night. It wasn't difficult for her to recognize him because he made no effort to conceal his presence entirely. He was a young man in his mid to late twenties, with a tanned complexion and sharp features, black hair, and a towering height of almost two meters. A smile quickly spread across his face as she opened the door, and he started talking as if he were a radio, his voice almost non-stop,
"Hello there, Dear. You found a notebook last night, didn't you?"
Aurora replied gently, "Yes, that's right."
The man in front of her responded, saying, "Hello, I'm the first one who found the notebook before you. I was appointed by the program to inform you of the second one. We represent the honored guests for the "Buds" Show. I believe you've heard of it before?" He seemed so articulate that Aurora almost couldn't bear it, but the atmosphere quickly turned childish, and she said,
"Show? Am I going to participate in some TV show? Oh, how exciting!"
Then she began to jump around like a child and said, "When... when do I attend?"
The person in front of her smiled and said, "You need to come to this address, sign in, and you'll participate." Aurora took the paper he handed her and looked happy. Then he said, "Alright, I'll let the crew inform you about the details when you come there. Goodbye."
He bid her farewell, and Aurora closed the door behind him and headed towards her brother, who seemed angry due to the visitor's nonsense. Aurora placed the address on the table and asked her brother,
"Isn't this one of the Salvador family's buildings?" Joseph stared at the paper and answered, "Yes, that's right." Then Aurora smiled mischievously in front of her brother as she sat on the edge of the table, saying,
"Well, tell Dad that I'm going to participate in a Show with Salvador's sons," pointing to the person who had visited her a while ago. The person who walked down Aurora's alley murmured, "Why would such a mischievous girl find the notebook? Just slang... or else I would have really killed her," as he put his hands in his pants pocket and confidently walked away.
A journey into the heart of darkness, where love and longing collide in a battle for the ages. For in the shadows of desire, anything is possible, and only those who dare to embrace the darkness can truly find the light.
