Chapter one: The spider, the letter and the slippers.

Josephine's pov:
I groaned, my eyes lazily fluttered open. Turning towards the window, I realized it was morning.
Sluggishly I stood up, putting on some slippers before heading downstairs, like usual, my mother was already there, she greeted me. "Good morning dear."
"Morning mom." I muttered. My brain began to awaken, as my body did when I stretched. My senses summoned when I heard a knock on the door.
I silently pleaded mother would get it, but all she did was stare. Just as I had made it to the door, a maid rushed in, greeting the visitor.
"Sadie, of course." Mother said. Annoyance dripped from her voice so obviously that I could almost hear it hit the floor.
She grabbed a few coins from the counter and handed them to the paper girl, immediately she gasped in surprise at the large amount.
I held in a chuckle. Sadie was raised in a commoners house so she had never seen a gold coin before. Me and everyone who lived around here was aware of this.
People believed she had the elemental ability of visions, but getting into the Magia Academy was costly.
After all, I would know. I remembered eight years ago when Rey got in, my parents had to raise the rent of the properties we owned.
I was lucky enough to get a personal home teacher, so I never need attend school. Even if I did, it would be impossible, knowing my attention span.
Of course, we luckily didn't have to pay nearly as much, since Nadia had no magic of her own, not that I know of anyway.
The maid quickly skittered away, going back to her house chores, such as making me breakfast. Which is a pain for anyone, considering how much I eat.
I felt a tap on my shoulder, I jerked around, only to see it was my twin brother Jasper. "What prank do you got this time?"
I looked towards the reflection of the window to see a spider on my head. I held in the scream best I could, but not good enough.
As usual, Jasper was rolling on the ground, laughing his face off. I grabbed a nearby fly swatter and bat the spider off and onto mom.
My eyes widened, she, like I did, gave the most sensible reaction. In the end the spider was gone and both I and Jasper were sent to our rooms.
I despised the fact he was my twin, but at least, being the first born out of the two of us meant I would inherit the house.
Rey would get the money, naturally leaving the scraps for Jasper and Nadia. I wished to know what Jasper was doing.
I formed a flat ice tablet, in its reflection lay Jasper, his entire body up to his waist was peaking out of the window.
I didn't need my magic to tell me he was exchanging paper plane messages with his best friend, Riley. Both boys enjoyed playing various pranks on me.
I grumbled. A clatter on the door made me evaporate the ice, I breathed in relief, it was only my personal maid, Hazel.
"Your father sent you a letter." I immediately snatched it from her. 'Yes!' I thought with truimph, it was definitely my father's handwriting.
I opened the letter, careful not the spoil the fragile edges. Ever since two years ago, he would send me messages from the battlefield.
I began to read: ' Greetings daughter, happy late 16th birthday to you and Jasper, I hope your studies have done you well, let me know how Rey's ceremony goes.
sincerely, your father. '
