The Past.
Tanner felt a surge of victory wash over her as she conquered the treacherous hole that she had been trapped in. As her keen eyes scanned the terrain, Tanner's attention was drawn to a perplexing sight -- several other holes, all covered with the same netting.
Still drained from her recent ordeal, Tanner mustered every ounce of strength to drag herself toward the opening of the next treacherous pit. However, as she started to remove the netting, a voice spoke softly from beside her.
"Good job sailor," The male voice spoke, his features drowned out from the storm and the harsh backlight of military vehicle headlamps, "and good instincts," he continued, "but we can't let you do that. Understand?" He explained, referring to the remaining holes covered with the netting.
Tanner simply nodded.
The voice's presence then grew threefold as he straightened himself to his full height, "Now get moving sailor! You still got to hoof it back to base!" He bellowed.
"Sir! Yes sir!" Tanner yelled in reply, then ran, having surmised her location. Her figure, muddy, wet and half-naked, faded as she left the brightness of the vehicle headlamps.
The Present.
Gale, having relived that moment as Gayle Tanner, her true name before she gave herself the codename of Gale, turned her attention back to King.
"What did I learn about myself big guy?" Gale began, the image of that young woman running in a storm with an unconquerable grin, remaining as Gale closed her eyes. She then whispered her answer, "Everything."
