“Lawyer Neville, who is this girl?” She eyed me as she shifted away from me
“She's my assistant, Mrs. Louys,”
“Must she be here?”
“Yes, she'll be here every step of the way. I apologize if you feel uncomfortable but you must become accustomed to this as this is how I do things,” He smiled at her before flipping his folder open, “So, you are sending a appeal to the court due to your children not sepearting from their fated ones?”
“Yes as their mother, it’s only right to protect them and not let them make a horrible mistake,” She dabbed her nose with a tissue, “So, you have to help me, Lawyer Neville. You are my only hope into separating them,”
I looked over at Neville as he cleared his thorat and placed a piece of paper in front of her, “Well, we better get started, but first I want you to look at this paper and read the entire page,”
She grabbed the paper and I noticed the drop in her face then she looked at Neville, “Wha-What is this?”
“These are evidence that your children sent in and this will be very hard to make the jurors side with you. So, your two possible option are to still go through with the trial or try to settle a agreement,”
She shook her head, “There’s no way we can meet a agreement, so I must go through the trial,”
I heard Neville sighed before sliding another paper in front of her, “Since our law firm has its own policy, we must get your signature as it’s to your understanding that if we lose this case, you are to withdraw from the case even if the ruling isn’t in your favor, you are to be banned from our law firm for any future cases, and any finanical loss will be on your hands while the financial gain, we will keep. It may not seem fair, but you do have to understand that this case is very difficult and the chance of losing is very high, so were willing to risk due to your sake,”
She seemed to hesitant before grabbing the pen and signing her name on the paper, “I’m already old and I’m willing to do this for my children’s sake, but all I ask is that she is gone,” She pointed to me
I awkwardly shifted in my sit and looked over at Neville, who was glaring at her, “Mrs. Louys, I won’t repeat myself. She is my assistant and must stay by my side at all times. If you don’t like it then you can call this alliance over,” He grabbed the paper and started to tear the top before stopping, “So, what would you like to do? As I'm a very busy man and I don't like my time to go to waste,”
She slowly reached for the paper, but Neville moved it closer to him, “Answer my question, Mrs. Louys,”
“A-How dare you treat me like this! I-I've been coopertaive with you and I waited so the lease you can do is let her leave as her kind has ruined my relationship with my children as they see me as delusional when they are the ones since they bewitch them,”
I jumped at the slam of Neville's hand on the desk. I noticed the blue strands he had his hair were beginning to rise and were glowing. I shook my head and carefully placed my hand on his shoulder, “Mr.Neville, I can leave as this a important case for you,” I took my hand off his shoulder, but he immediately placed it back on his shoulder
I didn't know how to react as this was new to me and I knew he would never react like this to me. “See! She has bewitched you as well. Her kind are a ab-!
“Mrs. Louys!” Neville yelled, abruptly standing up, I pulled my hand away from him, “I will not tolerate your beratement. You may excuse yourself out of this office and to never come back as your case will never be trail,”
She sanked into her seat, her eyes in fear, “Y-you're a monster!” She screamed, throwing her purse at him
The purse hit his chest and it dropped to the desk, “Mrs. Louys,” He said lowly, “Please escort yourself out before I filed a assualt against you,”
I looked between him and Mrs. Louys before standing up and walking over to her, “Mrs. Louys, it's best that- Ow!” I held my hand close to me after she pinched
“Get away from me, you abomination!” She yelled, getting out of her chair and pushing it at me, “Your kind can never be one with us! You selfish, controlling monster,”
The door burst open and in came the guards, they grabbed ahold of Mrs. Louys and pulled her away as she caused a fit. A guard walked past me to the desk to grab her purse and walked towards the door, closing it behind him. I flinched at the sudden touch on my hand and I looked to see it was Neville.
“Are you fine?” He looked at me and I got drawn back into his eyes. I noticed how dark they were and nearly took over the whiteness. I smiled at him once I took back control, “I’m fine. It was just a little pinch,”
“A pinch that broke skin,” He rubbed his thumb over the skin around it, chills sent down my body and I didn't know what was happening, “I apologize in advance for this,” He leaned his head and kissed my cut
My eyes widened and I pushed him away, holding my hand to my chest. He looked at me, just sadness and disappointed showing on his face and eyes. “I'm sorry, but I didn't want your cut to get infected,”
I looked at my hand and wobbled back, noticing the cut was gone, it disappeared and was healed. I looked at him and noticed he hasn't moved a inch. “How do you have healing powers?”
He opened his mouth then closed it, like he didn't want to say anything. We just stood there in silence, looking at each other until there was a knock at the door. He didn't move and kept his eyes on me. The door slightly opened after a couple more knocks, “Nemesio, are you alright in there?” A head popped in and my eyes widened once more
It was a clone of Neville. He walked in and closed the door behind him. He kept his eyes on Neville before noticing me, “Hello, I don't think we have met. I'm Octavio, Nemesio's brother,” He walked over to me and held his hand out
“I'm Layla,” I shook his hand, “The both of you are twins?”
“Yes, its always a surprise to everyone, so please be cautious when coming up to one of us,” He smiled at me
I noticed that he was more happy and smiley while Neville, no Nemesio was glommy and stone faced. “Miss Layla, I hope you can give me and my brother some privacy in the time being?”
I nodded, “Yes,” I walked towards the door, but stopped when I heard Nemesio speak
“You don't have the authority to make people leave from my office,”
“Nemesio, let's not speak about this in front of Miss Layla,” He walked over to Nemesio then he looked at me, “I'll see you later, Miss Layla,” I nodded and left the office, the lock clicking behind me
I walked away from the office and towards the stairs. I just headed anywhere that my feet would take me and it was the courtyard. I sat down at the bench, just watching the water fountain, trying to wrap my head around the events that just happened. It has only been three weeks since being here and I have just witnessed a worst interaction with a client and was attacked by one. I looked down at my hand and rubbed over the healed wound, I didn't know he would have healing abilities especially by kissing or would it be his saliva. Stop it, Layla! I slapped my hand and sighed. I was going insane now.
I never actually thought he would be on my side after everything humans have done to his kind, but what is his kind? He has a brother so they are the same kind, but what could consist of their ocean blue eyes with slit pupils, pointed ears, blue eyelashes, white hair, and I noticed he would wear gloves. He could be a elf or a fairy? but that didn’t suit him at all. I groaned, rubbing my face to think of something else. I couldn’t leave due to my belongings are still in his office and who knows how long their brotherly chat will be.
“Miss Layla,” I raised my head to see Octavio. Well speak of the devil. “I’m sorry for the wait. It seemed my brother had more to speak about with me,” He smiled and I noticed how identical they looked to one another, but there were some characertisitcs that separated them, “I do want to apologize for my brother’s behavior and for the way that woman acted and please keep this a secret,” He grabbed my hand, his hand massaging over my healed cut, “It’s very crucial, you don’t speak about this. I can trust you right?”
I started to feel fear when he looked me dead in the eye and I noticed he wasn’t joking at all. “I promise you, I won’t tell anyone,”
“Good,” He let go of my hand and backed away from me, smiling, “You can head back to my brother’s office and head home, but it’s your choice if you want to stay or not,”
