Sorry once again for the changes I made but it should read better now!
Milo felt like his
consciousness was being pulled from his body. A warm light embraced
him once more. Did he die again?
A deep, male voice said, “No, you didn’t die again.”
At this man’s voice, a bright light flooded Milo’s vision. He unconsciously covered his eyes, hoping not to get blinded. After a while, he didn’t hear or see anything.
“Open your eyes, little one,” a soothing feminine voice said. “You are safe.”
Milo slowly opened his eyes and saw a field of flowers. In the center of the field, a beautiful western black dragon with golden eyes was staring at him. It had golden horns and scales that glittered gold and black in the sunlight. He couldn’t help but feel the dragon was the most beautiful dragon he had ever seen even though it was his first time seeing one.
Next to the dragon, a man with long platinum blond hair and purple eyes had his hand on the dragon. He was looking at the dragon quite lovingly.
The two looked like lovers even though one of them was a dragon.
“It’s good that we can finally meet, Milo.” The man looked over at him with a smile.
Milo asked nervously, “Where am I? Who are you?”
“We know you have a lot of questions, so please listen to our explanation.” The feminine voice coming from the dragon urged Milo to sit in the flowers with them.
Milo sat nearby, listening to their explanation. It was quite long.
According to the man and the dragon, the two were Gods. The man was the God of Light, Avlios, while the dragon was the Dragon God, Sohtris. The two were, in fact, lovers. They were always with each other.
They also helped govern the world called Eifora. There were other Gods, but they didn’t meddle with the ways of the world too often. Actually, it was rare to even see a glimpse of the other gods’ hair. Avlios and Sohtris were oddballs who decided to go to the mortal world and create countries in their name. This also helped them grow their power as the faith of the people was energy to them.
To get to the point, they summoned Milo to Eifora. The Gods of this world and the Gods of the Earth had good relations. They were permitted to choose someone from Earth in times of crisis and vice versa.
Avlios explained how they summoned Milo, “We have criteria on who we pick to summon. This is what the Gods of the other worlds are like too when they need a soul from another world. In novels, TV shows, and movies it seems completely random, but for us, we had to filter you out with the thousands of people who died at the same time and same place. You just happened to fit all of the necessary criteria. You are brave, courageous, heroic, and, above all, you are kind. We saw the way you traded your life for that mother and child without hesitation. It really touched our hearts, you know.”
“Why did you summon someone from another world? Couldn’t you have picked someone in your world to help you?”
“That’s a good question,” Sohtris chuckled softly, “When you want change, what do you need?”
“When you want change…? Well, the determination to change. The will to change. And maybe the thoughts of wanting to change.”
Avlios leaned back and tilted his head back so he could look up at the sky. He held up his hand like he was grabbing the stars and putting them into the palm of his hand. “That’s correct. What we want is more than just change though. It’s a change so drastic you need a completely different mindset from the rest of your peers. And that’s why we summoned you. The way you think is different from the people of this world. You have different experiences, values, and beliefs. You lived in a society with different mindsets. With the help of the Internet, you were able to meet different people, and your views of the world changed little by little with each interaction. That’s the kind of person we need to help us.”
“Well, I wouldn’t mind helping but…” Milo felt it was best to just give up and help. Plus, he thought the Gods' explanation made sense.
“Was it really okay to ask someone like me to help you?” He didn’t feel like he was good enough to do something grand and significant enough that the Gods needed his help.
“We picked you because we hoped you would be able to help us,” Sohtris replied. “Well, we haven’t exactly told you what we need you to do, so please continue to listen to us before making a definitive decision.”
Milo thought about it and didn’t see the harm in helping the Gods. Plus, he was already in this world, and from what he could see, there was no way to bring his soul back to Earth.
Even if he wanted to go back to his world, he was already dead there. He could not turn back time. And even if he could turn back time, he knew that he could not survive that car crash, especially because he would make the same decision to save that woman and child a second time.
Since he already died, he could not live again in that world. He could cry, scream, yell, and curse the people who killed him, but it wasn’t going to bring him back. It wasn’t going to stop that driver from speeding and crashing into him.
He was strangely very calm. He thought he would be hysterical, but his feelings were weirdly stagnant, like a lake with no ripples, no life. Was he like this in his previous world? He couldn’t remember emotions too well.
“Ah… We’re sorry. It was an error on our part” Avlios, who seemed to be able to read Atlas’ mind, answered, “When you came to this world, another soul crashed into yours during the transferring process. That soul is now, well, a bit lost in our world, but he was able to successfully reincarnate like you. The way you are feeling now is because the part of your soul that regulates emotions is slightly damaged from the impact. Atlas is pretty clumsy even in soul form. But don’t worry. With my blessing, your soul will heal. After a few years, your emotions should come back to you.”
“Really? What happened to him? Where is he?” Milo wanted to be excited but his emotions were not working.
“As I mentioned before, his name is Atlas. That was also his name in his previous life. We checked his soul and he’s a habitually directionally-challenged kind of soul. He is also extremely clumsy to the point where he dies in every world he has gone to because of it. He bounces from world to world, forever lost and with no direction. He just happened to die at the same time and place as you and ended up following you here.”
Milo thought about the circumstances surrounding Atlas. Atlas followed his soul because he was lost… What a strange man. He seemed like he might be fun to be around though. Milo felt his emotions trending toward excitement, though they got cut off like withering roots.
Sohtris's dragon eyes showed signs of worry for Atlas. “Funny, because Atlas, in your world, has a definition of being a collection of maps. But Atlas can’t read a map to save his life. Well, I felt so bad for him, that I ended up giving him my blessing. With my blessing, I thought he would have an easier time, but the body he ended up occupying was a body in the Holy Kingdom, the place I did not want him to be in the most because they treat me as an Evil Dragon God...”
Avlios mumbled to himself, “Not only does he have the worst sense of direction, he’s clumsy, and he has bad luck…”
“Thankfully though, he was discarded and abandoned in the forest next to the Hirean Empire I founded. I doubt he will find his way out on his own though…” With Sohtris’ blessing, Atlas was like her child. Seeing her child lost in the forest was a bit nerve-wracking. As a God who was bound by strict heavenly rules, she could only save him if he were going through something life-threatening. Other than that, he was basically on his own.
Milo thought it was amazing to reincarnate with another person. He wasn’t alone. There was someone with past life memories like him. This person died at the same time and place so they lived near each other. They couldn’t be friends in their previous world, but what would stop them from being friends in this world? “Do you want me to go find him? I also want to meet him and hopefully become friends with him.”
“As the Gods who are now his parents, I would greatly appreciate you finding him and bringing him to my Hirean Empire where you are currently. You will have to train extensively though, as he is currently in the Great Dragon Forest.”
Milo was given the rundown on the Great Dragon Forest. It actually used to be Sohtris’ home, so the magical energy in that forest accelerated the growth of not only the plants and animals but also the monsters of the forest. Going along the outskirts of the forest, there were mostly B-ranked monsters. As they got closer to the center where Sohtris lived, there were A-S ranked monsters. With Sohtris’ blessing, the lower-ranked monsters would avoid Atlas, but A and S-ranked monsters would attack on sight.
“Parents?” Avlios sounded excited, turning to Sohtris with a grin. “Does that mean Milo, who has my blessing, is also our child?” They were Gods, so they couldn’t have children. They could bless mortals and watch over them like parents. Eventually, any time a God gave someone a blessing, they automatically became that God’s “child.”
“Well, if you put it that way, Milo and Atlas are our children… Should I also give Milo my blessing and you give Atlas your blessing too?”
“I don’t mind giving Atlas my blessing too. We might as well since the two of them came to this world together.”
“Now we have children together. I’m so happy!”
The two love birds were now in a world of their own, leaving Milo who died single, by himself to watch PDA that he didn’t appreciate.
He was glad to have a friend—and now, brother—in this new world, but he couldn’t handle the PDA any longer!
“Excuse me?” Milo felt he had enough watching the two Gods flirting with each other.
“Ah, sorry about that, Milo. Once Avlios gets me started, I just have a hard time stopping. Let me give you my blessing now.” When Sohtris said this, a bright light covered Milo for a few seconds.
“Oh yeah, let me give Atlas my blessing too.” Avlios nodded. “Alright, now that’s done, let’s continue our conversation.”
Back in the Great Dragon Forest, Atlas’ bad luck was about to get worse.
Unknown to these two Gods and Milo, when Atlas was hiding from a bear, a bright light shone on him, giving his position away.
