Chapter 10
Zavier sat cheerfully beside Kaine as he finished eating his food. He still wasn't sure what Sheila thought he could accomplish with Kaine, or even what information she wanted from him. But at least she paid for everything related to Kaine, Zavier laughed quietly to himself out loud on accident and Kaine looked at him with a slightly startled look for a moment.
"What 'caused you to laugh so suddenly?" Kaine typed into his band and Zavier awkwardly scratched behind his ear as he looked up at him.
"Um, nothing mu-'' He paused as Kaine raised his hand and wiped some food gently off of Zavier's lips. Zavier involuntarily flinched back slightly and lowered his head to hide the blush creeping onto his face.
After a few minutes in awkward silence Zavier glanced up at Kaine. He didn’t know how to respond to what he had done, after all, how are you supposed to respond when a man who has no doubt murdered more people than you’ve kissed starts acting unusual? Zavier suddenly put his food down and turned to Kaine, who in turn raised his eyebrow at him with a slightly nervous look on his face. Kaine refused to look him straight in the eyes and Zavier resisted the urge to grab his face and make him look at him.
Zavier suddenly had an idea to cheer him up “Let’s go shopping!” He grinned at Kaine’s uncertain expression, “Come on, it’ll be fun!”
And, after a bit of convincing, they ended up in a dark alleyway of the city, on the way to a specific clothing shop. Had Zavier considered the setting a little more, he would’ve realized that maybe it isn’t the best idea to be in a dark alley alone with a mentally unstable possible murderer.
“We’re almost there,” Zavier said cheerfully when Kaine suddenly grabbed his wrist and pulled him back, towards himself. Zavier nearly lost all of his balance, in the process, but at least he didn’t run into the obviously drunk woman that Kaine had pulled him away from.
As the woman stumbled away into the midday light, Zavier started to walk forward, only to realize that Kaine was still holding him. Zavier cleared his throat,
“Kaine, you can let me go now.” He reminded the red haired man, Kaine shook his head and instead he silently pulled Zavier into a smaller ally with a dead end. Zavier stared at Kaine in equal silence as Kaine released him from his arms but barred his escape.
“Are you okay?” Kaine typed into his wrist band,
“Yes,” Zavier frowned, “Is something wrong?” He asked and Kaine thought for a moment before typing.
“Why are we here? It is unsafe.” Kaine typed with a confused, concerned look on his face.
“Relax, we’re almost to the store.” Zavier laughed it off and started to try to walk past and or under Kaine’s arm that blocked off the small area. After miscalculating Kaine’s strength for a few attempts, Zavier gave up and sat against the wall on the ground. “Kaine, let me out.” He told him sternly and Kaine simply crouched down with an annoyed look.
“It’s dangerous.” He repeated, Zavier clicked his tongue and pulled Kaine closer.
“Hey, I’ve been around here before, it’s fine.” He told him in exasperation and a moment later, Kaine helped him out of the tight alleyway with a defeated look.
After they finally made it to the shop, Zavier grinned at the storekeeper as he looked around at the holographic displays inside of the clothing store. He glanced over at Kaine, wondering what kind of style he would look best in. Kaine so far had only been wearing neatly cut shades of red with white or black with collars, cufflinks and a stiff posture. Zavier had always found this odd, however, he had decided to leave it be.
