RAINBOW

“And done! You are ready for the shoot.” Said Phoebe, my make-up artist. I opened my eyes and looked at myself in the mirror. Melvin, my hair stylist, had also finished my hair and I was perfect for my photoshoot. 

My gaze was fixed on my neck, the collar I was wearing for the ad was beautiful, it was dark and lacey with some touches of gold in it. Since all the attention of the shoot was directed to the collar my make-up was not as heavy as other times, with soft cold blue tones for my eyeshadow and some hints of gold glitter just to match the energy of the accessory, a soft pink pastel blush and a red plumping lip oil that made my lips look bigger. My hair was tied up in a bun, a few locks from the front loose and slightly curled to give an even more elegant touch. The clothes were simple: a wide shirt, a few sizes more than mine, the first three buttons open to fully show the neck and nape area, accompanied by black pants and boots of the same color.

“Phoe, Mel. You never disappoint me. I look amazing.” I smiled at them, admiring myself in the mirror.

“I know we are pros at it.” Phoebe said, with a big proud smile on her face.

“It comes with working with you for a long time, Rainy.” Melvin smiled at me through the mirror, putting his tools away. I was about to say something but got interrupted by someone calling my name, someone I knew pretty well.

“Rainbow! It’s been so long since I last saw you.” Callum Parker, the photographer in charge of today's shoot. We’ve known each other since forever, he is also a member of the pack, Mason never liked him but I didn’t have any problems with him, he was always nice to me.

“Callum, hey. It’s so nice to see you, it’s an honor to be working with you today.” I stretched my hand to him as a greeting.

“The honor is mine for having such a beautiful model. You look stunning.” Callum said, taking my hand and leaving a soft his on it.

“Thank you, it’s all thanks to my team.” I smiled not really flustered by his gesture. He had always been a gentleman to me.

“I think it’s all thanks to your natural beauty. We should hang out sometime." He caressed my hand with his thumb but I didn't mind. "Your number is the same right?” 

“Yes, let me know when you have time and I’ll see what I can do.” I smiled at him. One of the staff members called his name and he nodded to them and then looked back at me.

“Okay, I have to start the shoot. Sit and I’ll call you when it’s your turn, okay?” I nodded, Callum smiled taking my hand and leaving a soft kiss on the back of it. “See you in a bit.” 

I smiled at his gesture and then saw him walk away. I sat back down on my chair taking my phone out while I waited for my turn, Phoebe and Melvin sat next to me.

“Callum was so eating you with his eyes,” I heard Phoebe say.

“He can’t even hide the fact that he has a crush on you,” Melvin added to Phoebe’s statement. 

“Rainy are you listening to us?” Phoebe asked.

“Yeah yeah, I am,” I said, not looking away from my phone.

“You are definitely not.” Melvin sighed.

And yes, I was not listening to my friends, I received a text message from Kang Dae and we hadn’t seen each other in a while so I didn’t want to miss the chance to talk with him.

I mischievously smiled and opened the camera app on my phone, placing my phone far from me and taking some selfies, posing seductively for the camera. Once I chose my favorite one I opened Kang Dae’s chat again.

I saw the seen icon at the bottom of my message, minutes passed and I still had no answer back from him. And then when I was starting to get bored and about to close the app.

I blushed reading his messages. He even used my full name on his confession and it made my heart flutter. He had no idea how much I wanted to kiss him too. To feel his lips on mine and every part of my body. ‘Oh God/dess…’

I couldn’t look away from my phone and I was glad it wasn’t a busy day at the station, because I wasn’t able to stop looking at Rainbow’s selfie. I was hypnotized by his beauty, I was still confused as to why such an omega would make me feel so many things in so little time. Just looking at his picture made me want to kiss him and make a mess out of him, even his neck which was covered by that collar was calling me, asking me to take a bite. I’ve never had the need to bite someone as much as I had when Rainbow came to my mind. My fangs felt itchy just thinking about it. 

“Hey, I didn’t know you knew Rainbow.” Loui’s voice startled me, he had moved his chair to my desk and was looking at my phone screen.

“You know him?” I looked at him confused, locking my phone.

“Of course I do, everyone knows him.” Everyone? Was Rainbow that popular? I know it was a small town but to be known by all the townies was odd. “So, are you two dating? You can tell me, you don’t have to hide it from me. We are pals.” 

“What? Why did you assume that?” I asked confused by his statements. We were not dating, at least I didn’t think so…

“Well, you have been looking at his picture for a long time and I recognize the spark that you had in your eyes while looking at it,” Loui said with a mischievous smile.

“What? What do you mean?” 

“The look in your eyes is the look of someone in love,” Loui said with a poetic tone, placing his hand up to his chest where his heart is and closing his eyes to give a dreamy and dramatic reaction. “I used to be just like that with my wife.”

“I see,” I said, trying to hold back my laugh because of how dramatic he was.

“So do you like him? You would make a cute couple.” I thought for a moment before answering his question. Did I like Rainbow? I was attracted to the omega and I couldn't stop thinking about him; there's also that wet dream I had involving him.

“I…I think I do, I can’t stop thinking about him and he makes my heart warm every time he is by my side.” 

“Oh! Is his scent to your liking?” He gave me a curious look.

“Yes, he smells good and sweet. Nothing I’ve ever smelled before.” I confessed to him, Rainbow’s scent had been of my liking since the first day I met him; that sweet rice cake smell.

“Oh Kang Dae, buddy. I think you found your fated mate.” Loui placed his hand on my shoulder giving me a serious look.

“Fated mate? What is that?” Confusion struck me at his words and also at him. He grimaced when he heard my questions, not believing what I was saying.

“What? You don’t know what that is? Dude, where did you grow up? That’s basic school knowledge.” He said a bit frustrated at my reaction.

“I’ve never heard of that, I think…” I said confused. I had heard about mates of course, but not fated ones. 

“Well, it’s just as the name says. It’s a God/dess-given mate, someone that literally was born to be with you.” Loui said, explaining the terms to me. I never heard about it before so it was all new to me. 

“So that’s what it is.” Loui’s words made sense to me, but at the same time, they didn’t. It sounded like something made up, an old myth parents told their kids to comfort their kids while growing up.

“Yep, so take the next step, buddy. Fated mates are rare to find, and the bond is not one-sided. Rainbow obviously knows you are his mate.”

“How do you know that?”

“Well, his an…” A phone ringing interrupted, and someone was calling Loui. He took a look at the caller's ID and then whispered at me. “I have to take this, I’m rooting for you, Kang Dae.”

What was he about to say to me? Why was it obvious that Rainbow knew about the bond? A lot of questions filled my mind. Maybe Loui was right, but what if he wasn’t? I liked Rainbow, I felt attracted to him but I didn’t come to Bramville looking for love, I came to take revenge on my master’s killer. I took one last look at Rainbow’s photo and then shook my head, putting the phone away and focusing on work again.
