I wish I could but sadly I’m on duty today. My partner took today off because his wife is sick, so I took his place.

I smiled at his message and got back to work, focussing on the long paperwork Loui had left behind for me to check.

And just like that, two weeks passed. I hadn’t seen Rainbow since we had our date. Our schedules were not helping us either. Whenever he was free I was busy with work and the other way around. Also, the fact that both of us came back tired from work each night made it impossible for us to meet. Today was once again a day off for me and I could rest at home, but it was finally the day I could meet Rainbow. 

Me          13:00 PM

Hey Rainbow, are you ready for our date today? We can have a picnic at the park😁

I waited for Rainbow’s response and as minutes passed I still got no answer. I sighed and left my phone on the kitchen counter and took out a blood bag I had saved in the back of my fridge. It had been a while since I drank some and I needed the energy. The blood I always took was the one the government gives to the vampires, I’ve never drank straight from a person or even from the bags of exotic blood the McRaytan’s provided me.

Ding Ding!

A notification sound broke me from my thoughts, I finished my blood bag and took my phone seeing a notification from the omega.

I’m so sorry Kang Dae, I know we promised to meet today but now I’m at a sudden last-minute shoot. One of the models can’t come on the day we scheduled so we moved it to today. I’m so sorry, I really wanted to see you🥹

It’s okay, Rainbow. Things like that tend to happen, it’s not your fault. We can reschedule for another day😉

I sighed, putting my phone away. Once again we can’t meet and I really wanted to see him, my chest felt heavy each day I couldn’t see him. I still couldn’t understand why and I’m not the type to search symptoms on Google to see what I have. I could ask someone but who? I can’t ask Rainbow directly. Maybe Loui, we’ve gotten close since we started working together but I don’t know if we have enough confidence to ask him about those kinds of topics. 

I shook my head leaving all my thoughts of Rainbow behind and reminded myself of the reason I had come to Bramville, I’ve been so distracted lately that I haven’t investigated more about who the murderer was, but I did have a prime suspect. I walked to the murder board I had made back when I arrived in town. I had pictures and pieces of evidence from the files I had read at the station. Looking at my murder board I updated my prime suspect: Byron Shepard, the Alpha of the wolf pack. Why? His pack was the one that helped take down the trafficking network, I’ll still need to do research to find out his reason so I can’t attack just yet.

My phone distracted me away from my thoughts, someone was calling me? Who could it be? I went back to the kitchen counter where I had left my phone and looked at the caller’s ID and I got confused. Rainbow was calling me? Why? I thought he was busy.

“Hey Rainbow, what’s up?” I answered the call, I could hear a lot of noise on the other side.

“Kang Dae, hi. Are you busy right now?” Rainbow said and he sounded as if he was in a hurry.

“No, I’m just chilling at home, why?” I curiously asked.

“Can you do me a favor? I left my home in a hurry and left some of my camera’s gear and we need it to continue the shoot. Can you go inside my apartment, grab them and bring them for me?” Rainbow asked, I could tell by his voice how stressed he was. Wait…If I do the favor for him then I can see him, this could be good.

“Sure. Just tell me where it is and I’ll take them to you.” I softly smiled.

“Yes, it’s probably in my room on my desk. It’s a big purple pouch. I’ll send you the keycode of my apartment and the address. Thank you so much Kang Dae.” 

“Anytime Rainbow, I’ll be there as soon as I can,” I said before he hung up and a few minutes later he send me his code and the address.

When I arrived at the place the door was open and I walked inside to find chaos, all the staff members seemed stressed and trying to figure out what to do. I saw Rainbow in the back being scolded by someone, he stood there with his head down while the other person just screamed at him. I frowned. How dare he scream at my omega? I walked past the members of the staff, getting their attention and their curious eyes followed me as I got closer to Rainbow and that man. I noticed how he was about to slap him and I took his hand before he could harm him.

“Don’t you dare touch him,” I said in a serious tone looking at the man.

“What? Who are you?! Let me go.” The man yelled, trying to break free of my grasp.

“K-Kang Dae. It’s okay, let him go.” Rainbow said, placing his hand on my arm. I felt a sudden calm feeling and let go of the man’s hand. “Sir, I’m sorry about that. We have everything we need now to start the shoot.” 

“Hmph! You better start soon then, my models have other places to go.” The man said and was about to say something else but I glared at him and he backed away. 

“Are you okay, Rainbow?” I turned to look at the omega, he sighed and nodded.

“Yes, I’m okay. Don’t worry. Did you bring the pouch?” He asked. I could tell how stressed he was because he was not in his usual cheery mood.

“Yes, here you go.” I gave him the pouch with a soft smile. 

“Thank you so so much, I could kiss you right now.” He said and then blushed at the realization of his words.

“You could do it, I don’t mind.” I gave him a flirty smile, and he smiled back. 

“Maybe later, there’s a lot of people watching us and I need to start the shoot.” He giggled and then got on his tippy toes leaving a soft kiss on my cheek. “I’ll pay you with this for now.”

My cheeks hurt from how wide I was smiling, his soft lips felt nice against my skin. I nodded as I was pleased with my reward.

“You can also stay and watch the shoot if you want,” Rainbow suggested with a smile and I nodded again, he guided me to some chairs they had on the side. “You can watch from here, if you need anything just ask the staff, we have snacks and drinks for visitors.”

“Okay, focus on your work and you’ll finish in a flash,” I said jokingly, Rainbow processed my pun and then giggled.

“You are so silly, Kang Dae.” He giggled and walked up to the team, telling them to get ready to start. 

I sat there and watched how professional Rainbow was. You can see how passionate he is with photography, just by seeing the great job he does, explaining to the models how to pose and taking photos from various perspectives and with different filters and lighting. And just as I had said, they finished the shoot in a flash, Rainbow apologized for the inconvenience and thanked the models and team for their patience. I sat there waiting for him but still managed to listen to their convo, enhanced hearing is useful sometimes.

“We couldn’t have done it without your boyfriend Rainbow, it was such a good idea to call him.” One of the girls said. Was she referring to me? 

“Yes, your boyfriend is so nice and so handsome too. You won the lottery with him Rainbow.” Another of the girls said. I proudly smiled at their comments, I even dressed up nicely to impress his teammates and I was content that it worked out.

“Boyfriend? Do you mean Kang Dae? No, no we are not boyfriends, we are just friends.” Rainbow answered calmly, he had his back to me so I couldn't see the expression he was making.

Friends. We may have kissed but we haven’t put any labels on what we are so maybe Rainbow was right, we were friends. Just friends. But why does my chest feel heavy by that thought of being only friends? Did I want us to be more? Did he not think of me as a potential mate? I sighed and shook away my thoughts standing, it was time for me to leave.

“Hey Kang Dae, I’ve wrapped up so maybe we can…go” I said walking to where I had left him while looking at my phone but when I looked up, he was no longer there. 

“You are looking for your friend?” One of the staff asked and I nodded. “He left a while ago.”

“Oh, well. Thanks.” I said with a soft smile and then walked out of the building, I sighed.

Why did he leave? I tried to finish as fast as I could so we could go out on a date. Did he perhaps get bored? Or maybe he had something else to do. Ever since the day of our date, I couldn’t stop thinking about that kiss, his lips felt so good against mine, and yes, I had scolded Vivi for taking control and asking Kang Dae to kiss us but I also thanked him because I needed that push. I wanted to kiss him again, no. I needed to kiss him again. Or maybe that’s just my post-heat self-talking. 

‘You know you can just write him and ask him if he has time now. I want to kiss him too.’ Vivi suggested and I shook my head. 

“No, if he left is because he had something else to do,” I said and then my phone started to vibrate in my pocket. Taking it out I saw some messages from Mikaela.

I had totally forgotten about the promise I had made to Mika, I didn’t understand why he wanted me to go have dinner with them, but it was nice to go back home sometimes, and I wanted to see my dad. I could even take it as a chance to have a health checkup with Papa and I could hang out with Mason and Mika. Yeah, maybe it was not so bad to go home after all.
