I'm cis but I changed my first name in my early 20s. My original name was given to me by one of my birth parent with whom I have no contact anymore. The name felt as if they branded me in a way. I never liked it. Never felt attached to it. Instead, I pick one that my other parent chose for me. It felt very liberating.
I can't imagine what it would feel like to go through that PLUS have a name that don't fit your gender.
I hope you got your new papers fast, mais connaissant l'administration française, j'en doute très fortement :P
