KANG DAE
Since I left Rainbow’s home that day I didn’t have a chance to see him again, I spent almost a week in the station solving the case of the body found in the woods. After a lot of investigation and with the results of the autopsy, we found out the victim passed away after an attack by a rogue wolf, a notice had been sent to all the Villas’s leaders for an important meeting back in the station, I knew those “Villas” were actually the packs and prides that lived in and around Bramville; this town was full of supernaturals and I could probably count humans with my fingers.
Chief McNeill dismissed me for the day and I finally got the chance to go back home. After a long nap and a shower, I decided to Rainbow a visit, I grabbed some snacks and maybe we could watch a movie together in his apartment. I stood in front of his door and knocked but there was no answer, I knocked again.
“Rainbow? Are you home?” I loudly asked, expecting him to hear me from inside.
“K-Kang Dae…” I heard his voice through the door, it was faint, almost as if he was sick; I got worried.
“Rainbow? What’s wrong? Are you okay?” I was completely worried. What if he was sick or in danger?
“Y-yes…I’m…okay….” He faintly said. I was getting more and more worried, I could easily knock this door down, but that would imply having to reveal my real identity and that is something I don’t want yet.
“Please…leave…” I heard him say, but more than words it felt like he was…moaning? A sweet scent escaped through his door and I knew what was happening…
It was that time of the month for him, Rainbow was in heat. My chest hurt at the fact that he was there alone. I've heard how hard a heat can be for mateless omegas. He was suffering and I couldn’t do anything to help him. We were not mates, not even boyfriends. Yes, we kissed before and we were obviously attracted to each other, but that still didn’t allow me to barge in on his house and take him, omegas usually are not sane when they are in heat and I didn’t want to force him to do anything he didn’t want.
I sighed and looked at his door one last time before going back inside my apartment, I had to wait until he was better so I could see him again.
~oOoOo~
As the time of the meeting was getting closer the police station started to get filled with people from the pack and prides of Bramville; Alphas and their Betas. There were lots of different species, going from wolves to felines and even birds. With every passing day, Bramville surprised me even more, it really was a refuge for the supernatural and I couldn’t blame them, leaving here was kind of nice. The image of Rainbow crossed my mind and I smiled slightly, if I succeeded in my plan…Maybe I could stay here with him. I shook my head at that thought, seeing how full of supernaturals this town was. It was dangerous for me to stay here after succeeding my mission. They could find out it was me and hunt me down and Rainbow deserves better than me.
“Amazing, isn’t it?” Loui said, his voice interrupting my thoughts.
“What is?” I was confused as to what he was referring.
“The number of supernaturals in town, I would say there are like 10 humans here.” Loui chuckled and I nodded, as a police officer Loui filled me in on everything I needed to know about the town, the first thing he admitted was to being a feline shifter; not that it was new to me, and that most of the town were supernaturals too. “Oh well, 11 with you now.”
“Yeah, I’ve never seen so many gathered in one town.” I lied, of course, I couldn’t put in my curriculum that I was a Dhampir, so I went with human instead and people couldn’t realize I was a Dhampir unless I showed my powers. “It’s interesting.”
“Comes with Bramville being a small town surrounded by a forest, it’s good for all who want to take out their animal selves for a run.” Loui explained and it made a lot of sense to me, even if it was a small town and there were not many things to do, it was a lovely place to live. “Here are just the leaders and their betas, but there’s also some who don't have packs.”
Rainbow came to my mind again, before we kissed on our date. His eyes were…different. They were glowing and that usually was a supernatural trait, but it was weird. I couldn’t tell what he was by his blood, it was certainly odd for me and I’m not a fool, I can’t just ask him what he is.
“Sorry for being so late, my mate was having some pregnancy cravings.” A deep voice took me away from my thoughts, a tall man walked in with his beta on the side. Wolves. The pack’s Alpha and his Beta, just who I was expecting to meet, the ones that took down the trafficking network I went to back then.
With both sat down, the meeting started. Chief McNeill informed them about the incident with the rogue wolf and recommended some security measures to be taken in each Villa. Since we were a small team we couldn’t do much but with the help of the packs, prides, and flocks we could have a better chance of finding that wolf. Some of the Alphas gave suggestions as well and with a plan in mind and ready to pull off, the meeting came to an end.
Loui left to talk to a man I assumed was his Alpha, a tall man with long white hair gathered in a ponytail. Despite the color of his hair, he did not seem to be that old. He was probably an exotic breed.
“Officer Kim. Officer Kim.” Khalid called me and I turned to look at him, he was accompanied by the Alpha and Beta from the wolf pack that had arrived late.
“Yes, chief?” I answered giving him a gentle smile and standing straight.
“I want to introduce you to the gentlemen next to me,” Khalid said moving his hand in the direction where the Alpha and Beta were standing. “This is Byron Shepard, leader of the wolf pack, and his Beta Mason Shaw.” I nodded at them. “Alpha, this is Kang Dae Kim.”
“It’s a pleasure to have you join the team that protects Bramville, Officer Kim.” Byron said stretching out his hand towards me to shake it, I quickly responded to his gesture by taking his hand.
“It’s a pleasure to me to be of help to Bramville and to meet both of you.” I gently smiled and let go of Byron’s hand to grab Mason’s, I noticed how the scent in Mason changed as he shook my hand. I let it go and noticed how Byron’s gaze was fixed on me as well, I could tell by the shine of his eyes that he felt suspicious of me, but I didn’t stand down, I looked at him to let him know I was not intimidated by him.
Ding Ding!
A phone notification sound distracted us, Byron took out his phone and softly smiled, typing something on the screen. Once he was done, he put his phone back in his pocket and then looked back at the chief and me.
“I will take my leave now, my husband has another craving and I’ll better get it fast if I don’t want him to be upset with me,” Byron said, Khalid nodded at him and then both wolves left leaving us behind.
“The things people do for love.” Khalid jokingly said before leaving to talk with some other alphas, his words remained in my mind especially the last one.
Love… A word that I’ve heard many times but never truly experienced myself. Master Bernard taught me that ‘love’ was a liability in our work area, something unnecessary and useless that only makes us weak, so it never crossed my mind to experience something like that. Rainbow’s image came back to my mind again.
Is ‘love’ what it’s pulling me to care about Rainbow more and more?
THIRD PERSON
On the way back to the pack, the Alpha wolf felt uneasy, something about the new officer seemed odd, mysterious, and even suspicious. His scent proved that he was no regular human, but he couldn’t really tell what he was.
“Mason, didn’t that officer seem weird to you?” The Alpha asked his Beta about his suspicions, he needed to make sure he wasn’t the only one before judging that newcomer.
“Who?” Mason asked not looking at his friend, his eyes were focused on the road since he was the one driving.
“The new officer, Kang Dae Kim.” Byron said looking at him and Mason nodded.
“Yes, something is not right with him,” Mason said in a serious tone, he looked at Byron for a moment and then focused again on the road. “He gave me the chills, his skin was a little cold. He is probably a supernatural.”
“Glad it’s not only me.” Byron sighed, he knew the feeling in his gut was not tricking him, something was up with that man. “Tell Khalid to keep an eye on him, he might be up to no good.”
“Yes, Alpha. I’ll inform Khalid once we get back to the pack.”
