Kamora and Jarosh entered the room meant for the young lord. She placed everything they had bought atop his desk and went to prepare his bed while he waited by the entrance. 'My lord,' she said after she was done, 'you can come and rest.'
He shook his head. 'I do not want to.'
Kamora sighed, shaking her head slightly. 'You are tired.' She pointed at the bed again. 'Why don't you come and rest so you can enjoy what we bought later?'
'No! I want to eat them now!' He insisted, stubborn.
'Okay, fine.' Kamora shrugged and gave in. She walked to the table where she had placed their snacks and pulled a chair out for Jarosh. She motioned to him, and he walked towards her, taking the chair she had prepared for him. One by one, she began to bring out all the delicacies they had bought, and she watched as his eyes widened with hunger, the fatigue leaving his face.
She laughed inwardly. He really loved food.
By the time she had arranged everything before him, he didn't waste any time and quickly dug in. He had taken a few mouthfuls when he realized that she was simply watching him eat.
He pointed to one of the foods. 'Why aren't you eating?'
Kamora smiled. 'Thank you, my lord, but I don't think it's proper—'
'Oh, please,' he cut in. 'It's weird being the only one eating. It's just the two of us. You can go ahead and eat.' He pushed one of the snacks towards her. 'Here, take this.'
Kamora smiled and nodded. 'Thank you,' she said simply.
They dug into the food in silence, Jarosh's occasional moans of enjoyment being the only sound in the room. After a while, they gave up eating, their stomachs filled.
'That was good,' Jarosh said, a lazy smile etched on his face. Kamora's heart tinged with slight unease. She could only imagine what Claudia would do to her should she find her in that position. She hadn't meant to eat a lot, but she couldn't control herself once she started eating.
'Let's do this again,' he said, turning to face her. Kamora smiled, nodding slowly. 'Hopefully, your father allows us. If he does, I'll try to get the recipes for some of them.'
His eyes lit up. 'That would be very good! Then I can have it whenever I want!'
'You still have to eat proper food, my lord. You do not want to end up overweight.'
Jarosh huffed but didn't say anything.
A long while passed, and both of them were slumped against the table seat.
'Did you know that lady?'
Kamora glanced at him, but he wasn't staring at her. His expression was distant, and a slight frown marred his face.
'I do not know her,' Kamora answered, her voice hushed.
Jarosh remained silent, then asked again, 'why don't you sound sure about that?'
Kamora didn't know if she should tell the young lord that she had lost all memories of her past. He was just eight years old. Telling him all that might be too much for him to comprehend. She started thinking of a proper excuse when he finally faced her, his stare intense.
'I want the truth.'
Kamora sighed, defeated.
'I do not recall my past,' she confessed quietly. Jarosh's eyes opened wide.
'Since when?'
'About eight years,' she answered, a forced smile on her face. Jarosh's eyes widened, and a strange expression crossed his face. Kamora didn't think too much about it but continued.
'If that woman is really my sister, I wouldn't be able to remember her. Besides, why didn't she ever come to find me? I still doubt it, though, because she is Fae, and I am human. We can't be related.'
'But what if you are half-Fae?' Jarosh pointed out, sounding surprisingly mature. 'There are people out there, although there aren't too many of them, who interbreed. Fae and humans. They get married and give birth to half-breeds.'
Kamora had heard stories like that, but for the past years after her memory loss, she had lived in an environment where halflings or interbreeding were nonexistent. Humans married and reproduced with humans, and the same for the Fae.
'If I were half-Fae, wouldn't I have some of their qualities then? No matter how small?'
Jarosh remained silent. He didn't have an answer to that.
Kamora smiled and sat up straight, then began arranging the table. 'Do not worry yourself, my lord. I am pretty sure that the woman is a swindler. Perhaps that's a new way of deceiving people.' She turned to look at him, her gaze admonishing. 'Do not ever talk to people you do not know. They might do anything to you should they find out that you are a noble.'
Jarosh snickered. 'I doubt that is possible. Not when my father is still alive.'
Kamora grimaced, shaking her head. 'Even if he does come to save you, that will be the last time you ever set foot out of this house. Are you willing to take that chance?'
Jarosh sighed. 'No,' he said. He stood up and headed straight to his adjoined bathroom. 'I want to go wash up. After that, I'll go and sleep.'
'Okay then,' Kamora said. 'I'll take all these away, then come back in a few hours' time. Rest easy, my lord.'
Jarosh waved his hand, then walked inside the bathroom.
Kamora packed the trash, stood up, and walked out of the room, closing the door silently behind her. It had been a very taxing day, and she couldn't wait to have some time to herself. She thought about Petal, wondering if perhaps she would be free, and then made her way to the kitchen. Upon entering, she found it bustling with maids, and Petal was not amongst them. They were probably preparing for a huge lunch, now that the Lord was back home.
Sighing, she placed the trash in a huge bin which sat by the far side of the kitchen. By the end of the day, the maid in charge of taking out the trash would empty it outside for the dustmen to collect.
Just as she walked out of the kitchen, she bumped into someone and winced, quickly bowing in apology. 'I am so sorry,' she said, raising her head to look at the person. The man who stood in front of her turned as white as a sheet as he took in her features, and in a voice she could barely hear, he whispered, 'Kamora?'
Her past is hidden, both from others and herself. Working in an elite manor leads her to strange occurrences that prove more than a coincidence, especially with the sudden interest the Dark Lord has in her which is more than suspicious.
