Dorien got up from the concrete floor of the alleyway. "I must leave. I'm risking our lives being here. Tell my little crow I love her.". As he was walking away, he turned around. "Wait, I must give you these.". It was a piece of paper with a note for Ripley, and taped to it, an ornate silver key. "Huh. Did you make this key, or...?", John said while looking up, only to find Dorien already left. "This guy is totally a vampire...", he thought to himself. He then got up, returning to the bar. "So? What happened?", Ripley asked. "He just gave me this and left like Batman.". Ripley laughed as she looked over at her backpack seated at the entrance, realizing that he left his coat draped over it. She smiled and held the coat close to her.
"Dating him must have more thrills than John Wick...", John muttered as Ripley held the coat. "Who? You're the only John I know.", she said. He smirked at her lack of film knowledge, "Eh, never mind. What the hell do we do now?". "I guess we need to find some way to get the book to the Lady Fox.", she responded while putting Dorien's coat in her backpack. She then realized he left a note in his breast pocket. She read it before letting out a loving sigh. The note read "I knew you'd take my coat. I love you, my little crow.". Ripley giggled, saying "Thisman'sgonnabethedeathofme!". John smirked, saying "You just managed to call me single without saying a word.". Ripley let out a dry chuckle, saying "Mighty sorry, Mr. Doe. I didn't mean to dig anything up for 'ya.". He simply shrugged, responding "It's fine. But, Dorien left another note on the paper. It's for you.". "Hm?", she said as she headed over to him, picking up the paper. Her caramel eyes browsed it before landing on one specific word. Ripley rolled her eyes, saying "Ugh. Take it.". John raised his eyebrow, taking it back to read it. It read;
"I'm sorry that this might bring up some bad memories for you, but this is my last resort. You have to go to Mimi. I didn't bother leaving an adress, since I knew you could lead Mr. Doe to her place. I'm so sorry, my little crow."
"John Doe is a laid-off detective in the year 3006, who finds the only book left in existence. The creator of this book cursed whoever would read it, with great responsibility. The reason is unknown, but it is widely believed that the writer was a being millions of years old that was angry at the world for moving past books, so they cursed the book, calling it the Crying Story. The curse is that whoever reads the book is then given the responsibility of protecting it from the demons inside. There are seven entities in it, and in the wrong hands, they could wreak havoc on the entire world. The most dangerous entity in the book is called The Joyous Day. Those who go to it for guidance have never returned. John Doe is given this responsibility and understands the weight of it. The fate of the world is in his hands." All these details and more are in Julian Ferguson's latest fifth novel, "John Doe: Detective Extraordinaire".
