Lucia was speechless, her eyes wide with disbelief. She looked into his eyes and saw that he was serious.
He said, "Don't think about it too much. Just see me as a genie fulfilling your desires and wishes for the night."
She asked, "But why do you want to help me?"
"Well, you can say that I'm just trying to make my dance partner happy for the night."
"Oh, well, that's very kind of you. But I've never done anything of this sort."
He said, "Well, there's always a first time for everything. Don't tell me you haven't done anything fun."
Lucia fell silent, before saying, "Does organizing a party count?"
Callum sighed and asked, "Who was the party for, Lucia?"
She answered in a small voice, almost like a whisper, "My friend."
Almost rolling his eyes he called out"Lucia, Lucia, Lucia. It seems like you've never really been alive."
She countered, "Well, I am alive."
" I don't mean it like that. I mean going out to socialize with others rather than with your friend. Your life seems to revolve around your friend. It's only going to get worse. Now tell me, are you going to follow your friend to her matrimonial home? Are you going to remain a third wheel for the rest of your life?"
His words echoed in Lucia's mind as she muttered under her breath, "For the rest of my life." As her eyes wandered into her thoughts, Lucia started to imagine her life like that. It was a horrible feeling. She looked up at him and said softly, "I don't want that. So what do I do?"
He said, "Well, the floor is all yours. You make the requests and I grant them. Nothing too extravagant. I'm not Superman."
Lucia smiled nervously, her fingers twirling the edges of her dress as she stared at him. She swallowed hard, trying to gather her courage. With a deep breath that seemed to calm the rapid fluttering of her heart, she exhaled softly.
"I won't lie," she began, her voice barely above a murmur, "I do get jealous sometimes, watching people out there enjoying their lives when I haven't even begun to live my life. Sometimes I feel like I'm trapped in this endless circle."
Callum looked at her with a patient expression, his voice like a soothing balm. "Tell me what you desire," he said, his tone unhurried, his eyes fixed on hers.
Lucia's cheeks flushed a delicate shade of pink, just thinking about it. She bit her lower lip, her gaze dropping momentarily before she summoned the courage to continue.
"Um, you see," she stammered, "I've never had my first kiss, and... I don't know when or how it'll ever happen."
She paused, her breath caught in her throat. Callum, ever patient, waited for her to find her voice once more.
And then, her voice barely above a whisper, she made her first wish, her cheeks aflame with embarrassment. "For my first wish... I want to have my first kiss," she confessed. She quickly closed her eyes, wishing she would vanish on the spot. Her face was hot with embarrassment.
Lucia's long eyelashes fluttered against her cheeks as she squeezed her eyes shut, her heart racing.
A suppressed chuckle escaped his mouth before he whispered, "Is that all?"
Her head bobbed in affirmation, eyes still veiled in darkness.
"That can be completed in a matter of seconds," he assured her
Slowly, she opened her eyes. "Really?" She inquired hesitantly.
He nodded once, his gaze locked onto hers. They stood there, in a profound silence, as he inched closer to her, overwhelmed by a sudden rush of emotions, Lucia instinctively took a step back.
Pausing in his step he gently asked, "What's wrong?"
Her words tumbled out, filled with nervousness. "It's too bright," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "And... it's embarrassing, looking at you in the light. What if someone sees us?"
A subtle, knowing smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
Seeing him smile, she knew he was probably mocking her "This might not be a big deal for you, but it is for me."
"Okay, fine," Callum relented. "Follow me."
