The dragon’s lair was covered in glue
Some hardened, some sticky, and some glittery too!
“Golly gosh golly, what will I do?”
How to get through this sticky stew?
The dragon’s cupboard was across the hall
Within were her cousins, in a hollow glue ball
The dragon slept against the opposite wall
And Ella crept across the floor, trying not to fall
At the wall she cut out a hardened glue stair
The only way to make it, to the cupboard up there
And Jake and Jarod and Jimmy did stare
Their cousin was here? From where?
She punctured the bubble and let them all out
But their safe escape, was still in much doubt
Though aided by the fact that the dragon had no snout
Then little Jimmy fell, and gave a great shout!
The dragon awoke with a thunderous roar
The four children fled, to get to the door
If the dragon caught them, they would be no more
But the dragon blocked the door, alas alack for the children four
Then something happened, call it good luck, call it fate
“Sorry!” called Paul “If I’m somewhat late!”
“Paul!” cried Ella “How’d you get here mate?”
“Well,” he started ”...oops, did I make myself bait?”
Paul had crept in, beneath the front door
It took some searching, but he wished to help her more
After hunting up books and maps and lore
He found the front entrance and went on o’er
After that he knew not what to do
Neither, for that matter, did Ella Sue
Before the dragon made Paul’s choice something he would rue
Ella remembered his knife and it to him she threw
Being sticky from glue, she missed by a mile
But it stuck the dragon’s tail, in a big glue pile
That stopped it, for a bit of a while
And they filed out of there, single file
They scurried away as fast as they could
And didn’t stop till they were gone for good!
“Thanks for coming, I didn’t think you would”
“How could I not? I did what I should”
They spent a good while walking back
Comparing notes, sharing a snack
Resting, and then picking up the slack
Making their way down the beaten track
At home everyone was worried too
Their children were missing that was true
And the house was covered in glue!
Their parents yelled and cried till they were blue
Of course Ella May Sue told the truth
But the adults wouldn’t believe them without proof
So Paul took them to meet Head of the Order, Ruth
And thus ends this strange story from Ella’s youth!
