I was losing control, taking lives uncontrollably, and the next one in line was his. I watched in horror as his body withered away.
"Jess! Jess!"
I jolted awake with a gasp. What was that nightmare about?
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It was just a nightmare," I replied.
"Do you want to talk about it?"
"No, I don't want to remember it." I was still trembling, and he noticed, gently rubbing my back. I rested my head on his chest and soon drifted back to sleep.
When I woke up, he wasn't there, but he'd left a note saying he had gone to attend something important. I smiled. I might not remember my past feelings for this guy, but I knew I loved him now. He made me feel special and warm, and a mix of emotions that couldn't be easily put into words.
After freshening up and changing into a short black dress (since I didn't have any regular clothes like the boys), I headed downstairs for breakfast. On my way down, I stopped by the locked door again. Why was it locked, and what was behind it? I couldn't resist the curiosity. This door might hold the key to recovering my lost memories.
After breakfast, everyone except Jake left for important work. Dylan's arrival seemed to have kept them all busy. I needed to get to that locked door, but Jake was always watching over me. My plans to investigate would have to wait. Every attempt to slip away ended in failure because Jake was vigilant.
I decided to take a walk in the vast garden behind the mansion, with Jake tagging along. I was about to enter the greenhouse when I turned to him and pleaded, "Can you stop following me, just this once?"
"I was ordered to protect you. I can't leave your side," he replied.
"It's just the greenhouse. I won't leave this place," I insisted.
"But—"
"Please?"
"Okay, promise you'll scream if you're in danger."
"Yes."
"Alright, you can go."
I hopped into the greenhouse, expecting some alone time. However, my solitude didn't last long. Someone soon appeared behind me, and I squealed in fright. The person quickly covered my mouth with large hands.
"It's okay, pretty. It's me," said the familiar voice.
I turned around to see Jeremy, who wore a mischievous smirk.
"Why did you scare me like that?" I whined and playfully swatted his arm.
"Sorry, pretty. I just wanted to surprise you."
"Stop calling me that." This conversation felt oddly familiar. Did I have some past memories with this guy? Then again, he did mention that I had forgotten him. Why hadn't Caytln told me anything about this? What kind of relationship did I have with him in the past?
