RoaR#10
It was dark now and most of the town people were indoors. An elf could be seen at the entrance to the town pulling along a big chest with her.
“At last.” Said the elf as she was tired from pulling the heavy chest all the way to here. She looked around the town but then sighed as she did not see the one she was looking for. She looked at the chest and started pulling it again as she entered the town.
The town was dark but some lights were present along the main road of the town that the elf was moving in. she looked around as she was moving along and was on full alert. Ready for anything. She pulled the chest until she reached a building withing the darkest corner of the town. She waited for a bit. Suddenly a shadowy figure emerged from the shadows. She was alerted and looked towards the figure.
“Oh. You’re alive? Now that’s surprising to see!” stated the shadowy figure with a very rough voice.
“I told you that I will be back. Now where is it?”. The elf was looking at the shadowy figure with a very serious look.
“All in good time.” It wasn’t clear but it seemed like a smile had formed on the shadowy figure’s face when he said that. He motioned with his hand towards an alleyway to the side. “Wait there.”
She looked at the alleyway and then looked back towards the figure with an uneasy face. She nodded and went there with the chest being dragged by her.
She stood there waiting for what seemed an eternity for her. She had her bow ready as she waited. Ready for anything. Suddenly three shadowy figures emerged from the wall of the dark alleyway. The elf was looking on with alert.
They approached her and the middle shadow figure came forward. “I heard from my subordinate that you succeeded. And I see the chest is in your possession as well.” His facial expression was hard to make out but traces of a grin could be seen present on his shadowy face.
“I did what you asked of me and got the chest.” She stated while looking at the main shadowy figure. “Now you need to honor your part of the deal.”
The middle shadowy figure continued.” Hmm I see your point.” He looked and got nods from the figures behind him. He then looked at the elf and continued.” You see. The mission we sent you on is one where we don’t expect anyone to ever come back from.”. the elf looked on with anger at his statement.
He saw her expression and was amused.” Now, you coming back is both a welcome surprise and an opportunity.”.
“Just honor the deal.” Said the elf through gritted teeth.
“Not so fast.” He said and the two shadowy figures behind him started laughing and he continued with a smile.” You see, since leaving and coming back the price has doubled.”
The elf looked at them with anger.” That is not what we agreed on.”
“You can go and get it somewhere else if you want.” Said the shadowy figure with a condescending tone.
“Please, I need it for my sister. She is not well.” Her anger shifted to concern and she tried to appeal to their good nature.
“Do I look like I care?” They had no good nature. He then took out a bottle containing a glowing blue herb that lit the dark alleyway.” If you want this. You need to bring us another chest of gold and do it fast before it doubles again.” He looked back and all three of them started laughing together.
“You monsters!” the elf was beside herself with anger but she could not risk the bottle breaking and the herb being contaminated so she did not attack and held herself back.
The main shadowy figure saw her holding herself back and went in front of her and started waving the bottle in her face.” What is it elf? You want this?” he then started laughing. The elf grit her teeth and just stood there.
“We will hold on to this chest until you get another for us. And this time be fast about it.” The shadowy figure said then he started laughing manically.
Suddenly a big crash could be heard and the glowing herb bottle was in the air. The elf reacted quickly and caught it. She looked towards the source of the sound and saw a very big barbarian had just fell from the roof face first on the shadowy figure that was just laughing and waving the bottle in front of her and crushed him.
“Damn it. Last time I’m sleeping on a roof.” He held his head as he lifted his face from the ground and noticed someone under him. “Hmm? Who’s this? Don’t tell me I killed him.”
“Roar?!” the elf was very surprised and confused because she recognized the said barbarian and he was none other than Roar.
Roar looked towards the elf and was confused.” Hey fancy seeing you here. Did you fall from the roof as well?”. He looked back and saw two shadowy figures cursing at him and readying big spells to attack him. “Cool lights. Hey elf check these two out they are doing something cool.”
The elf regained her composure and yelled at him.” Run Roar. Get the chest.”.
“Not again.” Roar’s eyes widened and he did what the elf said. Both of them could be seen running away from an exploding once dark, alley. One with a big chest in his hands and the other, a bottle of glowing herb.
While they ran, Roar turned to the elf.” Your luck is broken, elf.”
The elf looked at him and smiled. “It is indeed.”
They continued running into the darkness of the night.
