In the tavern only laughter and singing could be heard. The noises were so loud that they could be heard from a mile away.
All the people that passed by turned green with envy. How could the king just laugh and chatter while the people were suffering? Were they not as well, did they not know?
The king was surely having a good time, he saw the people outside glaring at him because it felt like daggers, but that only encouraged him to drink more and more.
“Waitress, we need another round of big, cold beers please sugar!” Elias called out to the lady with the tight corset and a tight skirt.
“Yes Mr.Elias,” the busty waitress seductively said to him.
This Tavern is Elias’s favorite drinking place to go, and he has two reasons why that’s so: Number 1- the beer is the best in town, Second-the ladies here are the finest around. Sadly though, those are the only two things he cares about. His selfishness was one of the many reasons why that made him such a terrible monarch.
As the drinks came back and everyone got one, the king stood up and prepared a toast.
*Ding* *Ding* *Ding,* he banged a spoon on his beer glass.
“Can I have all your attention,” what was once a room full of singing and laughter, quickly turned quiet with questioning murmurs.
They all turned their heads toward the king, who was now standing on his wooden chair at the head of a big rectangular table.
Charlie, who had been standing in a corner so as to not disturb them, suddenly to his dismay, had to stop Elias, the king.
“SIR, PLEASE SIT DOWN,IT'S DANGEROUS! YOU ARE DRUNK!”
Charlie loudly whispered at Elias while running up to him, pulling him back down.
He couldn't fathom how Elias could be so foolish.
“Nonsense Charlie, I'm a trustworthy and reliable person, don’t be such a buzz kill, now let me get back to my party,” he quickly got back up, pushing his hand away.
“You know, from the time when I became king, and through my reign I had difficulties I couldn't bear. I struggled, I really did, so I want to thank these people for helping me through it all."
People in the bar, including the council, and the passersby had shock filled faces. They couldn't believe what they were hearing. The king thanking them? The foolish and conceited king thanking them? He has never genuinely thanked anyone, ever.
Everyone, especially Charlie, felt astonished, and a bit grateful. Charlie felt like he finally was appreciated by him.
As he was about to go up and hug him from over joyness, Elias spoke up again. “Thank you all of- ME, MYSELF, and I, HAHAHAHA, Y'ALL THOUGHT I WAS ABOUT TO MENTION YOU ALL, I DON'T NEED YALL’S HELP IN ANYTHING! ACTUALLY, YOU ALL SHOULD BE THANKING ME, ME!”
The king laughed hysterically at them for getting their hopes up.
The villagers and the council all scowled at him, rolling their eyes. Scoffing and whispering, cursing the king, they really thought he had finally acknowledged their hard work.
Matthew, who had been just sitting quietly at the farthest end of the table just sat there and watched.
The king's words didn't affect him. He never expected anything from him except a person who was nothing but full on over themselves.
However, the people were so agitated by him that they all collectively got up to leave.
Charlie on the other hand sighed sadly at the king’s remark. He’s even more sad over the fact that he got his hopes up. He told himself that he should have known better.
They tried to leave but couldn’t because Elias’s voice stopped them.
“I swear to god, If yall dont come here and sit y’all’s asses down, your days will be numbered,” Elias was pissed at them for taking his “joke” so seriously and leaving during his well deserved party that he was kind enough to invite his people for a drink.
The villagers scurried into their seats, they sat stiffly, too scared to make the king even madder. Making him mad would result In their death.
As Charlie is, he was not mad at his king. Charlie thought Elias had a reason for everything he did. He shook away his bad feelings and went to grab Elias’s hand pulling him down from the chair.
“Dear council and fellow citizens, I do deeply apologize over his majesty, he is very drunk and you all shouldnt mind what he said. Now please go home, we’ve been keeping you for far too late.”
Charlie sincerely apologized to the many folk in the bar for his highnesses' actions and words.
No one in the Council hated Charlie, they all held him in a favorable light. With his charm and smooth personality he captivated the entirety of the village. They all felt bad for him having to deal with the monarch.
