Let me tell you how we, 'The Black Belts,' earned our reputation as the toughest girls in school. Even the strongest guys are terrified of us. It all started back in middle school.
I was chatting with Melinda when a group of bullies came over and started making fun of us. "Hey Kayle, you look so dumb today. What happened to you? Oh, wait, I forgot, you don't have a brain!" they taunted, laughing.
"The real idiots here are you guys for messing with us. If you stop making fun of us, we'll spare you and promise not to kick your asses. If I were you, I'd run away now!" I warned, but they just scoffed.
"What are you going to do, Miss Kayle Kokoro? Show us your silly moves?" the leader jeered.
Melinda yawned, "Let's not waste our time fighting with these losers. They're too boring to even fight with."
The bullies laughed even more, not taking us seriously. "So, you girls think you can fight with us? We'll just make you cry!" they threatened.
I moved closer and pushed their leader. "Then try to make me cry now!"
He got angry and attempted to punch me, but I caught his fist with one hand and held it without getting hurt. He and his friends were surprised at my strength.
He punched me with his other hand, but I held that one too. I glared at him, "Leave us alone, or your butts will get kicked."
"You're just a girl, Kayle!" he sneered.
"Right, I am a girl," I said before kneeing him in the stomach. I whispered in his ear, "Who just kicked your butt."
He fell to the floor weakly.
Melinda threatened, "You'll all end up like your friend, on the count of ten."
All the guys charged at us to fight. When their fists were about to hit our faces, we jumped high in the air.
"1…2…3…" we counted.
I did a backflip and kicked the guy with curly hair in the face. "4…5..."
He screamed in pain and tried to kick me again, but I spun around, and our feet clashed.
He fell to the ground, and Melinda said, "6…7…"
Melinda threw her shoe in the air, jumped, and did a flying kick. Her shoe hit the guy who tried to attack her in the face. "8..."
The last guy threw his book at us, but we both kicked it at the same time and sent it flying towards him.
"9…" we counted.
We watched the book fly into the air and hit the guy's face before it fell to the ground.
"10…" we announced.
As we promised, all of them fell to the ground on the count of ten.
"You suckers just got defeated by two girls!" I declared, watching them struggle to stand up.
Melinda yawned again and said, "Boring!"
Many people saw us that day, and ever since then, we've been known as "The Black Belts." We have a reputation for being the toughest and scariest girls in school, and everyone knows our name. No one dares to mess with us. Felix and Jayson, who are part of our group, are the most fearsome guys in our grade, and they go by "The Judos." Together, we are "The Black Belts and The Judos," and whenever our gang is spotted, everyone stops and stares at us with fear in their eyes. They always give us a wide berth and let us walk through the center of the crowd.
Despite our reputation, my life isn't as great as you might think. Because most guys are too afraid of me, I've never experienced the feeling of being in love.
Here I am on the rooftop, my favorite place and my second home at this boring school. The wind blows through my hair as I gaze up at the cerulean summer sky, watching graceful birds fly overhead. The view of the tall buildings and their firm structures is awe-inspiring as if I can see the whole world from this rooftop. I believe that there's no teacher for love (koi ni shishou nashi) and that love conquers all (koi to seki to wa kakusarenu). But I can't shake the feeling of loneliness in my heart. I've been searching for the guy who will make me fall in love my whole life, but I still haven't found him. I wonder which guy will have the key to my heart.
Suddenly, a pestering sound from downstairs catches my attention. It sounds like a fallen can. I curiously peer over the edge of the rooftop and see two guys looking up at me, ogling my bottom. I feel a surge of anger and cannot forgive this terrible thing they're doing to me.
"Hey, perverts! You better run, or you're gonna die!" I shout with a threatening voice and a deadly stare. The two perverts quickly run away in fear. Instead of taking the stairs down, I jump, taking a shortcut to catch them.
Now that I'm on the ground, I'm going to teach those two a lesson. "She's too fast!" Gregory exclaims to Ran, who is also running away from me. They both look at me with frightened eyes. "That's what you expect from a black belt!" Ran screams to Gregory, who is overwhelmed with fear that I'm going to beat them up.
Sometimes, they say that the love you've been searching for is already there, but you're just too blind to see it. There's a guy in my way, and when I get too close to him, he steps aside. It's kind of funny because I can't see his face. The guy whispers my name, "Kayle?"
"You can run, but you can't hide!" I shout menacingly at the two perverts. They yell with horrified expression on their faces. "Ah!"
I wonder if what they say is true. When will I meet him? When will I meet my first love? As I catch up to the two perverts, I give them a strong freestyle kick to their scared, pale faces. "Ha...ya!"
