The dawn of a new day arises from the east, the waves crash to and fro as a fishing boat sets down a net on the seafloor...
A strand of sunlight lands on Sun's eyelids encouraging him to greet the new day. He slowly opens his eyes and blinks into his room, with a flick of his tail he sets himself upright and stretches his arms outward. He looks into his small gold mirror on his wall and smiles, revealing a bright toothy grin. he adjusts his wrist ribbons and swims over to a tarp that hung on the wall, that separated his room from moon's. he gently pulls the tarp away and peers into the room, and there moon lies on a mattress they had found blanketed by seaweed. Sun swims up to moon and gently shakes him. "hey! rise and shine! it's time to get up!" said sun in a cheery tone. moon just groaned and shifted to face the other way in sleepy annoyance. "c'mon moony! you can't just sleep in! it's a wonderful day today!" sun exclaims as he shakes moon again. Moon finally opens his eyes and turns back to face sun and sighs. “Fine… good morning sun, what do you want to do today?” he says in a sleepy tone. Sun’s face lights up and he takes moon by the hand and pulls him out of their shipwreck home. Sun and moon swim through coral reefs and sea grass plains, “hmmm let’s see.. Oh! How about we go look for some new treasures?” sun asks as he pauses for a moment. Moon rubs the sleep from his eyes and responds, “treasure? Sun, we haven't found real treasure since you found that shiny round thing that shows what you look like.” sun rolls his eyes and crosses his arms, “well, we won’t find any with that attitude! We just gotta look somewhere we haven't yet..” he scratches his chin and looks around, he swims in a circle looking in different directions looking for which one he wanted to set out toward to begin their search. Then sun spots something in the distance, something shimmering in the vast blue ocean. “Hey.. hey! I think I see something! Over there, look!” sun’s face fills with excitement and he points over into the distance at the shimmering. Moon blinks into the distance and squints, “what is that..?” moon says in a puzzled tone. Sun begins to swim ahead and looks back at moon and says. “It's a treasure! That’s what it is! C’mon let’s go get it!” moon rolls his eyes and smiles at sun and swims beside him. “Or its just another small school of shiny fish” he says sarcastically and snickers, sun takes offense to this and retaliates with a half hearted nudge and says “hey! It was one time! And I apologized to them.” they continue to banter back and forth as they swam toward the shimmering, then moon pauses and grabs sun’s arm “sun. wait! I smell something..” sun looks at him in confusion and he sniffs the water around them, until he looks moon dead in the eye with an uncomfortable look. “I… I smell blood.” sun says with an alert but quiet tone, as though someone could be listening. Moon nods and looks forward and notices that a little ways away was a small plume of red amongst the vast ocean blue. “Over there.” he says as he points in the direction of the plume of blood, and just above the blood was a shiny gold chain. Sun’s eyes fixated on the chain and he swam forward. “He- hey! Sun! Wait up!” moon says as he quickly trails up beside him. Sun tilted his head at the chain, looking at it from every direction. He then reached out, grasped the chain with one hand and tugged. But it didn't budge, sun tugged again with more force but it still wouldn't move. While sun was occupied with trying to get the chain free, moon examined the plume of blood. it surely hadn't been there for long.. He was sure of it, the blood had come from a bass that was cut in half, it lay on the ocean floor with its mouth slightly ajar. A small current whipped by and disheveled some of the sand, and moon noticed something had appeared in the sand. He wiped away some more of the sand with his hands and he froze, it was netting. He quickly swam to sun and shouted “sun! We have to get out of here! It's a trap!” sun looked wide eyed at him “what!?” he shouted in worried confusion, and before they knew it the large net lifted up around them.
A captain and his crew are finishing up for the day by picking up the fishing nets they had left in hopes of catching a few fish and maybe some crabs if they were lucky. So far from the 3 nets they had left they had only caught a few cod fish and tuna, definitely not enough to peddle over to the fishmonger for enough cash to buy the crew a pint and a meal. You lean against the side of the boat looking out across the vast sea, the salty air fills your lungs and the crashing of the waves fills your ears. Then all of the sudden the gold bell next to you started to ring, you bolt upright in surprise. When the bell rang that meant that something big had taken a liking to the shiny chain the captain had tossed down as a lure in hopes of attracting some barracudas. You look around frantically and knock on the captain’s door. A grumble could be heard from inside “who is it?” said the captain, you swallow and clear your throat. “Its me captain!, y/n! The bell is going crazy, you need to come see this!” and in an instant the door opened and there stood before you was the captain. He quickly breezed past you and other members of the crew came up from below deck. “Oi! what’s goin’ on ‘ere then?” asked John as he walked up to me and the captain, “oooh! I think we caught a big one! Or maybe a lot of medium sized ones?” exclaimed jamie. The captain looked into the water but the froth from the ocean waves obscured whatever was down there from view. “Raise the net! And get the coolers, I bet this will be a beauty of a catch!” John and Jamie nod and rush off to the two cranks and begin to crank them fast. Sun and moon panic as the net lifts up around them, sun’s eyes dart around wildly as he begins to hyperventilate. “What do we do!? WHAT DO WE DO!?” he screams as the net lifts higher. Moon looks around and grabs sun by the shoulders “calm down! We're gonna get out of this! maybe.. Maybe we can pull this thing down! And when it gets tired we can escape!” moon says with a sense of panic. Sun nods and grabs the bottom of the net and starts to swim down as hard as he could and moon does the same. The cranks seem to be harder to move and as Jamie and John struggle to try to get the cranks to budge, the cranks start to move backward and the net starts to descend slowly back into the water. “Ohoho! A fighter isn't she? C’mon put your backs into it, get it out of the water!” exclaimed the captain as he gripped the rail of the boat and leaned forward in anticipation. You look over the railing, curious as to what could ever be caught in the net? Jamie and John seemed to get the upper hand back and begin to crank the pulley system and begin to raise the net again, and as the net rose higher, flashes of yellow scales and dark blue with yellow scales started to show up at the surface of the water. “Looks like we got two of em’ captain!” exclaimed john. As sun and moon struggle to get out of the net and begin to rise closer to the surface the cold sea air brushes against their scales as they try to keep themselves in the water. Moon held sun close to him with their tails overlapping with one another, sun whimpered in fear “m-moon.. I'm scared..” he says with a quiver in his voice. Moon holds sun tighter to himself, “it’s going.. It's gonna be ok sunny.. I've got you.” A collective of surprised gasps are uttered amongst the crew, in this moment it felt as though the world went silent. You couldn’t believe your eyes! There in the net were two creatures, one was mainly a light yellow and the other had a blue and bright yellow pattern on itself. Your eyes widen and your jaw nearly drops, Jamie and John look just as awestruck. The captain steps forward and reaches out a hand, moon snarls and bears his sharp teeth. The captain pulls his hand away and begins to chuckle.. And that chuckle turns into a loud belly laugh “lads! We’ve done it! We- we have done what no sailor has done before! Caught not one. But two! Sea monsters!” Jamie and John whistle and cheer, you continue to stare at the two creatures. The blue one was holding the yellow one defensively, you could vaguely make out the look on the yellow one’s face.. It looked… scared. The captain looks the two up and down. And scratches his beard, “aye y/n, you want to bet these two will make us a fortune? What do you think we should do with em? Sell em to one of them fancy aquariums for a fat stack of cash every month as our payment for contribution? Or should we sell 'em to a cuisine place and let us see what these two taste like?” the creatures seem to flinch and begin to slightly shake after the mention of them being possibly eaten.. “Im.. im not sure captain.. Maybe we should call in and report these two first before doing anything” you say as you look up at the captain. He pauses and looks at you, he seems to be considering your suggestion before saying “hmm.. I guess you're right.. I'll go get the radio so you can hear what they say. He goes to leave but stops in front of the two creatures, both of them are looking at us, he holds out a hand and extends a finger to poke one of them but the blue one snaps forward making the net swing a little bit. “Ha ha! A fighter I see! y/n, go fetch the camera to take a picture will ya? Jamie, John, set a course to the seaport.” They both salute and rush off into the control room. The captain runs his hand along the rim of the boat and steps into his quarters to go get the radio, you look at the creatures as they huddled together in fear. You couldn't help but feel.. Bad for them.. you walk along the deckand open the storage box near the hull of the boat, inside had a polaroid camera, some fishing bobbers, and your lucky hunting knife. You pick up the camera, and sling the strap around your neck. You were about to close the storage box when you heard whimpering and sniffling from behind you. You still hand your hand on the lid of the box as you turn your head toward the net. The yellow creature seemed to be.. Crying? It seemed to cling to the blue one, and the blue one held the other in a consoling manner.. “Yes, this is Captain Axel here… no this isn't about our engine blowing out! Im radioing in to report that we have caught two genuine sea monsters! Yes, I'm telling the truth! The things are caught up in my ship’s net and my crew have all seen them with our own eyes!” you over hear the captain speaking to someone over the radio.. He begins to walk out onto the deck and is holding the part where you listen to the person on the other end up to his ear, he continues to speak. “Yes, two of them… Well, one of them is a feisty one for sure. It nearly tried to bite my finger off, it has blue and white and yellow scales, with red eyes like the devil.. And the yellow one.. It seems more cowardly than the blue one.. Its eyes are just creepy, it’s got no pupils. Yeah, white as a ghost.. As if the soul’d been sucked outta this one..” sun feels hurt by this and buries his face into moon’s shoulder. Moon looks at the captain and utters a low growl and bears his sharp teeth at the captain. moon shields sun by slightly covering him with his tail fin. The captain paces and nods his head as he listens to the person on the other end. “Right, it will take us about.. A day’s voyage to get back.. We did go out quite far.. Eh, I'll have my crew douse the things with water so they don't die.. Alright. Signing off.” the captain sets down the radio and smiles at you, and gestures that you take a picture. You nod and stand up and hold the camera up to your eye and take a picture, the flash seemed to have irritated the blue one because it hissed and turned its face away. The film slowly comes out and you shake it a bit, it would take a little while to develop. The captain nods affirmingly and pats you on the shoulder and walks below deck to go check on Jamie and John. You give a weak smile in his direction and you look back at the two creatures… your finger twitches and you grip the camera tightly in your hands. You hurry back to the hull and kneel back down to the storage box and place the camera inside, the sunlight hitting your knife practically makes the blade light up and shine with its dark obsidian color. You twitch, you pick up the knife slowly and turn it over in your hands, you grip the handle and let out a shaky breath.. You stand up and look hesitantly at the cabin quarters entrance that led below deck… you held the obsidian blade flat to your chest and took a deep breath. “Ok.. ok you can do this, you can do this!” you hurry over to the net and whisper in an urgent tone. “Hey! Hey! I'm gonna get you two out of here.. Please don't bite me!” moon looks at you with a stern look, he stares daggers at you and your knife. Sun slightly moves moon’s tail out of the way and when your eyes meet, the creature shows such a grave fear that pierces your heart. You put one foot onto the rail of the boat and you hold onto the net, the creatures make a noise and shift as you get close to them, “shh! See? I'm gonna cut you loose and you need to swim away as fast as you can ok?” They look at eachother and their expressions change with the yellow one’s face giving a hopeful expression and nodding at the blue one. The blue one looks at you and nods, seeming as though it understood what you were saying. you exhale and begin to cut at the rope, and strand by strand the net begins to come a bit loose, you hear laughter from below deck and you start to hear the sound of footsteps. your heart nearly stops and you begin to try to cut faster, the two creatures must’ve seen the panic on your face because they started to try to use they're weight to try to help snap the rope of the net, they swung back and forth back and forth until the rope snapped and the net gave way. The boat jostles back and forth as the two creatures disappear into the water, your knife falls out of your hands and you try to get your balance. The captain, Jamie and John. Hurry up onto the deck as you fall overboard. “What in the blue blazes is going on up- Y/N!!” you hold your breath and close your eyes before you hit the cold water. You kicked and pawed at the water but you continued to sink deeper into the deep blue, as you descended it became harder and harder to hold your breath. Moon held onto sun’s arm as he swam both of them away from the boat sun held onto moon as they swam, sun turned his head to look behind him and sees you in the water being dove after by the captain. Sun looks forward again and closes his eyes, and they swim all the way home.
