Chapter 4
Kaine got off of the motorbike and glanced around cautiously, it was an unusual thing for him to follow a stranger anywhere without a weapon. However, over the past few days he had learned that he wouldn’t be able to escape Sheila’s reach regardless of what he did, so there was no point. Kaine looked over at Zavier who was looking around for the best place to go to first.
Zavier had an interesting sense of style, he dressed like he didn’t want to be messed with and that he was cool. However, his personality was all over the place, Kaine couldn’t figure out what was wrong with him to act this way. Why did he take nearly fifteen minutes earlier lying on the cold, hard ground in Sheila’s office? Why did he look so damn handsome regardless of his actions?
Kaine’s eyes widened at his own thoughts and he pinched himself, obviously Sheila was just trying to get into his head with the annoyingly pretty man in front of him. It was at that moment that Zavier turned around with a smirk.
“Follow me, Kaine.” Zavier commanded him and Kaine internally questioned if he was going insane, why and how did his voice also sound hot in addition to looks? Kaine shoved the thoughts aside and looked around, the city had a lot of small alleys that he could probably bolt into, however, there were cameras practically everywhere so it would be futile. Not to mention people were scattered all over the place blocking his escape.
As the duo walked around and shopped, Kaine noticed that they got quite a few weird looks and he was beginning to get uneasy. He tapped on Zavier and motioned to the people around them with a concerned look on his face.
“Not entirely certain what you are trying to tell me, but I assume you are talking about people around us?” Zavier asked and Kaine nodded, “What about them?” Kaine motioned to his face with a frown,
“They look weird?” Kaine shook his head with a frustrated glint in his eyes.
“Weird expressions?” Zavier attempted again and Kaine nodded,
“Ah, they probably think we are a couple.” Zavier told him nonchalantly and Kaine stopped dead in his tracks.
Sure, Zavier was hot, but why would people think they were dating? He shook his head with a frown. Zavier had paused for him and Kaine looked at him skeptically for a moment before following him. Zavier hummed for a moment, “Or they recognise me. One of those probably.” Kaine frowned at his comment, why would anyone know who Zavier was? He seemed like a pretty unimportant person, he didn’t wear super expensive clothing and he didn’t look like an absolute maniac, much less an infamous criminal.
After a bit more walking Zavier went into a tech store with a grin on his face. Kaine frowned but followed him, albeit hesitantly.
“I’d like one of your best bands.” Zavier told the worker who was sitting with a bored look and a bright purple lollipop in her mouth. When she looked up, she gasped slightly and immediately complied with his request. She looked young, but then again, everyone from Phosen looked young due to the fact that you can’t die from old age. Kaine frowned at Zavier, who was he? He didn’t ring a bell at all. Not that Kaine would know much about famous people, politics, or anything of the sort.
Zavier succeeded in getting the wrist band in just a few minutes, he promptly led Kaine out of the store. About a half mile of walking later, they were able to see a beach that Zavier had apparently been leading them to. Zavier plopped down on the sand and patted the space beside him. Kaine hesitantly obliged after looking around skeptically.
The beach shore was an array of tiny grains of blue, teal, and lavender colored sand that glittered in the bright, midday light.
Kaine looked at Zavier, who was gazing at the sea with a peaceful look on his face. Kaine frowned slightly, why had this man been assigned to him? What was Sheila’s objective for him? As Kaine’s brain ran through all of the countless, albeit weird, possibilities, Zavier returned his stare.
Zavier got closer and gently took Kaine’s wrist in his warm, gentle hands and Kaine jumped with a startled look in his eyes. The man simply looked into his eyes reassuringly as he gingerly clicked the band he had bought earlier around Kaine’s thin wrist.
“I bought this for you so that you can tell me what you are thinking and feeling.” Zavier explained to Kaine, he gently put his wrist down and showed him how to set it up.
