Chapter 3
Zavier cleared his throat awkwardly and looked at the man in front of him. Sheila had decided to leave him alone with the same mute guy that she had been pointing a gun at. He was confused and unsure what to do from here. Objectively speaking, the man was, in fact, quite handsome. Not that that fact fixed anything, however, it did help a little.
The red haired man did not respond to anything Zavier did, regardless of if it was simply staring at him, or pacing around the room, or lying face first on the ground in an emotional and mental mess. Eventually, Zavier groaned, lifted his face off the hardwood floor, and looked at the unresponsive man again. This time, their eyes met and the man stiffened and looked away.
“Okay, I get that you are upset or whatever, but I’m trying to get paid, so do you have something to write on?” Zavier asked in an aggravated tone, the man shook his head, ruffling his hair in the process. Zavier got up and reached over to fix it without thinking and the mysterious man grabbed his wrist with a menacing look in his blue eyes. Zavier stepped back with a scared expression on his face.
“I’m so sorry, it was a reflex!” He exclaimed before he realized that his wrist didn’t hurt at all, the man had loosely grabbed it but hadn’t injured him.
“I have an idea to get this started so that it isn’t going to bore you.” Zavier decided with a smile and the man looked at him in confusion.
“Can you write your name in the air or on my hand?” He asked with his hand outstretched toward him cautiously and the man slowly nodded before writing lightly on his palm.
“K-a-i-n-e?” Zavier asked slowly as he felt him create lines on the surface of his hand. The man nodded in reply and Zavier smiled,
“Alright, Kaine, let’s go shopping.” Sheila had thankfully told Zavier before she left that Zavier could use her money for anything that Kaine needed. He offered his hand to Kaine who tentatively took it with an uncertain look on his face. Zavier gently helped him off of the couch and out of the building within a few minutes.
He stopped at his shiny, black hoverbike and paused, looking at Kaine who had long since let go of his hand.
“Get on,” Zavier invited him after climbing up, he reached out to Kaine with a grin and a promise. “It’ll be fun.”
