Logan woke up in the middle of the night because of the excruciating pain that his body was in. He tried to sit straight but the pain on his abdomen made it almost impossible, when he finally managed to sit up he had a heavy breathing given the effort he had to make. As he looked around the barely illuminated room by the moonlight he remembered that he was in Kyle’s room.
He looked for Kyle and found him sleeping soundly on the floor, but a few seconds later, Kyle began to mumble in his sleep and toss and turn restlessly.
“Kyle?” Logan said softly to Kyle. Kyle didn’t react and continued to toss violently. “He might be having a nightmare,” Logan thought to himself as he continued to watch Kyle closely. Logan began to worry when Kyle started to cry and mumble things like he was almost shouting in his sleep.
Logan struggled to get to the floor and knelt over Kyle's head, placing it on his lap. He noticed Kyle's furrowed brow and put his hands on his temples. As he did, Logan felt a strange energy entering his body, and soon a black mist enveloped both of them. Logan was taken aback and realized what it was: a demon.
Logan, despite his aching body, quickly placed Kyle's head back on the floor and searched for his bag. He knew he had to help Kyle. As he moved around quickly his body was screaming at him to stop moving but after everything Kyle had done for him he couldn’t let him be consumed by a demon. After rummaging through the room, he finally found his bag and retrieved his rosary from inside. He placed it on his wrist and returned to Kyle's side, positioning himself as before. With both hands on Kyle's temples, he began reciting his prayers.
"O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I come to you today to ask for your protection over my soul. Surround me with your divine love and mercy, and shield me from the attacks of the enemy. Guard me from all spiritual harm and protect me from any evil that may seek to harm me. Help me to stay true to my faith, and to always follow your holy will. May your precious blood wash over me and cleanse me of all my sins. Strengthen my spirit, renew my mind, and give me the courage to face any challenges that may come my way. I place all my trust and confidence in your divine protection, knowing that you are always watching over me. Thank you for your endless love and mercy, now and forever. Amen." Logan said in one sitting with his hands still on both of Kyle’s temples, a few seconds later a golden mist started to emerge from Logan’s hands and quickly spread through Kyle’s body completely erasing the black mist and successfully exorcizing the demon.
“Kyle, Kyle, Kyle,” Logan started to say with tears building up in his eyes, just because the exorcism was successful doesn't mean that the demon hadn’t reached too deep into Kyle’s soul. Such deep contact with a demon could burn his soul and leave him sleeping until the day he dies.
“Kyle, Kyle, Kyle,” Logan repeated again, a few tears fell from Logan’s eyes to Kyle’s forehead. A few seconds after Kyle started opening his eyes and woke up in a state of distress.
“Logan?” Kyle said as soon as he opened his eyes.
“I'm here,” Logan said, looking over Kyle with tears still in his eyes.
“Why are you crying? Are you okay?” Kyle asked in concern as he lifted his head from Logan’s lap and sat up straight in front of Logan.
“I'm sorry for not noticing sooner, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” Logan said as he fell into Kyle’s chest and started crying.
“You are sorry for what?” Kyle said as he gently grabbed Logan from his shoulders and lifted him up so he could look into his eyes. “What happened?” Kyle asked confused as he dried, uselessly, Logan’s unstoppable tears with his thumb.
“I woke up because my body was aching,” Logan started saying between sobs. “And I saw that you were having a nightmare so I went to the floor to try and wake you up,” Logan continued as his voice broke a little. “But I sensed that a demon had entered your body and,” Logan said until Kyle interrupted him when he said demon.
“Demon?” Kyle asked in confusion. Logan nodded before continuing talking.
“A demon was trying to seize your soul but I exorcised it and I was scared that I was too late and that it had already reached the core of your soul,” Logan said, this time he wasn’t crying but he still had tears in his eyes.
“Thank you,” Kyle said before hugging Logan tightly to which Logan whined in pain. Kyle had forgotten about his injuries. “You should be in bed,” Kyle said to Logan when they parted away.
Kyle helped Logan to bed and went back to sleeping on the floor.
“You don’t have to sleep on the floor, this is your bed too,” Logan said sheepishly to Kyle. He didn’t want to sleep alone but he couldn’t bring himself to say it openly.
“Do you want me to sleep with you?” Kyle asked Logan knowing what he wanted to say.
“Only if you are okay with it,” Logan said faintly, just because Kyle was okay with him being gay didn’t mean that he was comfortable sleeping in the same bed as him.
Before answering to Logan he put the blanket over him properly and got in bed with him. “Okay,” Kyle said softly once he was in bed with him. “Now go to sleep,” Kyle said demandingly.
Logan smiled to himself and closed his eyes, falling asleep in a few seconds.

As Logan stirred awake, he noticed that something was off. He rubbed his eyes and looked around the room, trying to figure out what it was. Then, he saw that Kyle was nowhere to be found on the bed. With a start, Logan scanned the room and saw Kyle's limp body sprawled on the floor. It became clear to him that Kyle had fallen off the bed in his sleep.
Logan poked Kyle's face and said, "Kyle." Startled, Kyle woke up abruptly and said groggily, "What? Logan?"
Logan winced as he spoke, his bruised face hurting with each word. "I'm hungry," he said to Kyle.
“Go and make yourself something,” Kyle said, rolling to the other side to continue sleeping.
“What a bad host you are,” Logan said, containing a laugh, he didn’t want to hurt his face by laughing.
“You are annoying,” Kyle said between gritted teeth before standing up. Logan got out of the bed too this time with less difficulty than during the night but as he gave a couple of steps he winced in pain. The bruises in his torso were hurting him deeply.
“You okay?” Kyle asked Logan when he heard him wince in pain. “Do you want something for the pain?” Kyle asked
“A shot in the head would be nice,” Logan said with a serious tone and flat face, not because he was serious but because making any kind of expression was painful. “It's a joke, you can laugh,” Logan said when he saw Kyle’s concerned face.
Kyle laughed awkwardly and continued to lead Logan to the kitchen. Once in the kitchen Logan sat in a chair to rest his body and Kyle asked him what he wanted.
“Whatever is fine,” Logan said to Kyle. As Kyle made breakfast for the both of them he kept looking at Logan, he wanted to ask him things about yesterday but didn’t want to bother him.
“You can ask me whatever you want,” Logan said to Kyle looking downwards, making his hair fall down, hiding his face.
“Do you know who did that to you?” Kyle said as he put two coffee cups on the table.
Logan kept looking downward as he answered Kyle. “It was the guy that was in the video with me,” Logan said with a faint tone of voice, he was still embarrassed about it.
“I’m going to kill him,” Kyle said, locking his fists tightly. If it wasn’t because Logan knew him, he would be scared of the face he was making.
“Calm down,” Logan said softly, putting a hand on top of Kyle’s fist. “Manslaughter is not a nice criminal record to have while working at a coffee shop,” Logan said jokingly, making Kyle relax a bit.
“You may want to call Max later,” Kyle started to say, gaining a confused expression from Logan. “I may have told him what happened yesterday,” Kyle finished saying.
“Why did you do that?” Logan said a bit annoyed at the thought of having to deal with more people's worries. “You didn’t have to tell him,”
“Even if I didn’t he would have noticed by looking at your face,” Kyle defended himself as he gave a knowing look to Logan.
“Okay, but you call him and tell him to come here and Ian too, we have to talk about the demon attack yesterday,” Logan said, giving in on Kyle’s explanation before sipping on his coffee.
“Okay,” Kyle said before going to his room for his phone, before leaving he noticed that Logan still had the rosary on his wrist from last night’s exorcism.
After half an hour the bell on Kyle’s house rang indicating the arrival of Ian and Max, when Kyle opened the door their first response was to ask for Logan.
“He’s there,” Kyle said pointing to the living room, Logan was half asleep on the couch because of the pain medication that Kyle forced him to take that made him tired.
“When he wakes up don’t stare too much at his face and don’t ask him he’ll avoid your questions,” Kyle warned Ian and Max that were looking concerned at Logan’s bruised face before he woke him up.
“What,” Logan said, annoyed when Kyle woke him up.
“Looks like you are not that chirpy in the mornings, huh?” Kyle said, teasing Logan. “Ian and Max are here,” Kyle said, looking where Max and Ian were.
Logan opened his eyes and looked at Max and Ian that were already looking at him. “It looks way worse than it is,” Logan said, trying to make Max and Ian stop looking at him with pity. “Anyway, we have things to discuss,” Logan said, sitting properly. “Yesterday Kyle was attacked by a demon,” Logan said seriously.
“He was what?!” Ian asked concerned, it had slipped his mind that demons were real and that he was a demon hunter.
“What you hear, I woke up and a demon was trying to enter Kyle’s body,” Logan said looking a bit guilty, he still felt bad for not noticing sooner.
“But you are okay now, right?” Max asked, looking at Logan and Kyle that were sitting next to each other.
“Yes, thanks to him,” Kyle said while pointing at Logan.
“What do you know about the demon,” Ian asked curiously to Logan.
“It didn’t have a physical form, so I guess he was trying to possess Kyle to gain a physical vessel or burn his soul. Given that he was having a nightmare I’m guessing that the latter,” Logan said seriously.
“What happens when someone’s soul is burnt?” Kyle asked concerned for himself, Logan didn’t tell him that yesterday.
“Mainly when someone’s soul is burnt they just never wake up until they die,” Logan said matter of factly. “There are a few cases where the person does wake up but they don’t have soul, or emotions, personality, memories, nothing really,” Logan said while counting the points with his fingers.
Max, Ian and Kyle all looked at Logan in concern.
“Do all demons do that?” Ian asked.
“No, just a few of them,” Logan said, he liked talking about it, it made him feel useful. “After I told you that you three were demon hunters it looks like you all forgot about it,” Logan said while giving knowing looks to his friends. “If something happens and I’m not there, what are you going to do, die?” Logan said harshly.
“Teach us master Logan,” Kyle said laughing to Logan.
“No need to be so rude,” Logan said to Kyle, sending him a dirty glare. “If any of you sense something strange even if you are not sure if it’s a demon or not just make the sign of the cross while saying in the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit,” Logan said while showing them, his rosary started to glow faintly.
“Is your rosary glowing?” Ian asked, confused, he wasn’t sure if what he was seeing was real or not.
“Yes it is,” Logan said with a smile. “Because I made the sign of the cross that I casted a protection barrier, it’s useful against low level demons but a mid level one would break through it,” Logan started to explain. “In case you are facing a demon and don’t know what to do just do that and you’ll be protected enough to get the hell out and call me for help,” Logan said lightheartedly.
“Do we need a rosary?” Ian asked.
“It makes it a bit stronger, yeah,” Logan answered. “And starting tomorrow I’m teaching all of you about demons and how to exorcise them,” Logan said.
“Okay,” They all said in unison after hesitating for a few seconds.
