The Erra Singularity School was quite a massive building by itself, with the area around it being about 4 times bigger. However, today's lessons took place on a pretty big field, which was surrounded by the building's walls.
Several soft mattresses were spread across the ground, with strange, board-like devices nearby.
Mari was walking forwards quietly before suddenly stopping.
"What's with the sour face?" Fabio asked, with a light smile.
"You're here," Mari replied. "...and I had so much time without seeing you. A good streak..." he clenched his fist.
"You're just being cruel now." Fabio frowned.
"Tsk!" Mari pointed. "Clearly cruel."
Class A-1 followed behind Mari, stopping.
"Some people are fated to meet. Either because of the world playing out in that way or because of a supervisor, watching over us. Ask Milagro? I don't know." Fabio walked up to Mari, standing next to him. "Should I explain, or-"
"EVERYONE!" Mari raised his voice. "These are Emboards." he pointed. "They're devices that let you move around in the air as if you were riding a scooter."
"Wait, what?" Juablo asked.
"Allow me to explain." continued Mari, walking up to one of these vehicles. He grabbed the line at its front. "You steer the entire thing with your legs, moving either to your left or right if you want to make a turn, and if you push the rope towards yourself, you'll start accelerating forwards. Flying up and down is quite easy, if you want to go up, just pull the rope upwards, and if you wanna go down, try crouching, but not moving your legs. Did any of you actually get that?"
All twenty students looked at Mari, kinda confused. Some pretended to understand.
"Uhh..." Mari squinted his eyes.
"Essentially, my children. They're electronic devices powered by Singularity energy. It all goes through that rope over there." Fabio walked forwards, wagging his finger.
"But you need to keep a-"
"WAIT! I'll get there!" Fabio raised his voice at Mari, looking at him from above.
"These two constantly try to one-up the other," Rico said.
"Despite his feelings..." Leira put her hand on her chin. Rico and Leira grunted.
Lievpad looked forwards before someone put a hand on his shoulder. He quickly turned.
"Kohei," Lievpad said.
"Um, hey. I think we got off on the wrong foot before..?" Kohei scratched his neck. "I-I don't want to make you feel like we're enemies just because of what happened in February. S-So..." he stuck his hand out. "Let's keep a healthy approach to each other, okay, Lievpad?" he smiled, closing his eyes.
"Sure, Kohei, but I think I already was treating you well beforehand," Lievpad responded, looking at his hand.
"Well, certainly not the impression I got." he chuckled.
"However... I still want to fight you, in order to prove myself." Lievpad stated.
"Mm..." Kohei looked away, uneasy.
"Oi, are you two listening?" Fabio came up, looking at them.
"Yes, yes." Kohei nodded. "I'm just wondering how I'm supposed to do anything if I can already fly?" he asked.
"Kohei, it's not about the flying, really." Fabio turned. "Emboards aren't an easy thing to grasp. They require constant energy input, coming from your Singularity. It means that you need to constantly balance that stream of energy from your hands, throughout your entire body. That flow of energy can't get bigger or smaller, which means that first and foremost, you need a calm mind. If you let emotions run you over, you won't make anything out of it."
"Alright." Kohei looked at Lievpad.
"So they're a test of how well I can control Singularity energy?" asked Lievpad.
"Mhm." Fabio nodded. "Wait, you're not in my class, are you?"
"Thank you very much for explaining it to those rascals who kept chatting." Mari put his hand on Lievpad's head. "But he's my student, so you should've let me explain it to him!" he smirked.
"Huh?!" Fabio looked at Mari. "I was explaining it to Kohei! Not my fault your little student over there listens to everything around him. You should teach him to behave better." Fabio chuckled. "My, my. What a great teacher am I?"
"Oh..." Mari looked away. "So it means I'm a disgusting, irresponsible teacher. You'd hate someone like this, won't you?" Mari stepped away, smiling.
"No... I never said that." Fabio looked down. "You're still cute, and I wanna-"
"OKAY! Enough." Mari put his hand over his mouth.
The two started talking, semi-loudly. Kohei and Lievpad stepped away, scared.
"Don't you think it's kind of funny how no one in Class B tried talking to us? Do you think it's because Mari wouldn't let that Fabio guy close to him?" Juablo asked.
"Hehehe..." Paula was laughing.
"Paula?" Juablo looked at her.
"Energy... these can't be just electronic devices!" Paula smiled, holding a knife in her hand.
"WHAT ARE YOU PLANNING?!" he yelled.
"I will dissect it!" Paula ran forwards, with her tongue out, however, she tripped on a branch, that Leira created.
Mari got a grip on the situation.
"Essentially." he started, as everyone stood in four lines. "These are tests of how well you can put your mind and Singularity together. In my opinion, this should be quite easy. I didn't have much trouble when I first started, but who knows how this will go for you?" Mari stated. "If you don't do well now, don't worry, you'll still have plenty of opportunities to better yourself. Keep in mind that Emboards can get you even three badges, with one which you can receive near the winter break! It's a great opportunity, that shouldn't be wasted. Moving on-"
Mari noticed Milagro standing from a distance, signalling for him and Fabio to come closer.
"...ah." Fabio made a strange noise, as they slowly strutted towards him.
"Start practising." Mari turned for a moment. "Don't go outside of where the mattresses are!" he yelled, as they sped up.
"Three badges?" Juablo spoke, as Lievpad stepped next to him.
"One for Emboard skills, one for great use of Singularity energy and the last one for the sports festival. Isn't that cool?!" Ben added.
"Do you just know everything?" Juablo raised his voice.
"Well, from what I know we'll receive most badges at the end of the school year. We should look forward to what we can achieve, in order to guarantee that we all stay in this class." Ben smiled.
"Ha! Badges? Passing the school year? Who cares about all that?" Neil walked forwards, carrying his scarf in his hands. "Only someone... of poor qualities would let their mind wander to such topics. I'm sure that even if I didn't do anything, I would be able to easily pass. I can always bribe someone, of course." he smiled, pointing. "Do you get it, gente pobre?" he looked at them.
"Did he just call us poor?" Ben asked.
"Oi, Neil. You fuckwreck." The other student from Class B-1 came up to him. "Shut up already."
"Oh, Gobin? You think swearing will solve all of your problems?"
"No, but I can punch your stupid fucking face and guarantee that you won't stand up." Gobin clenched his fist.
"Look at you, hiding your frustrations behind that ugly mask. I can't even see your eyes and that blue mohawk of yours? It doesn't make you look any less poor-"
Gobin tried punching him, but Kohei quickly intervened, grabbing his hands. "Both of you, stop!" he raised his voice, as the three walked away.
"I don't think it was that serious," said Lievpad.
"Yeah, but you really shouldn't judge others based on things they can't control, even if they aren't true," spoke Ben, looking over at Juablo, who looked down, trembling.
"Just because the teachers aren't here doesn't mean that people like these two can start throwing hands," Chogi added.
The Emboard trial began.
"Wo... wo!" Paula started floating up. "This must be chemistry! I know it, très bien!" she started flying forwards, before flipping and falling over.
"He..!" Juablo pointed. "You got so excited, didn't you?!"
"OH YEAH?!" she turned over, standing on the mattress. "I'D LIKE TO SEE YOU DO BETTER!"
"Hmph, easy peasy," he smirked and put his hand on the rope, flying upwards, before immediately falling down.
Lievpad put one foot on the Emboard and started pulling the rope. "Hmm..." he kept looking at its design, then at his hand. "Huh..." he opened his mouth slightly.
Ben didn't have a hard time with the board, however, he still fell down one time. Rico moved slowly but didn't fall. Leira struggled a bit, Chogi couldn't do it at all and Rejire fell asleep on the side.
"Woosh!" Ben slowed down, slowly pulling the rope. "Don't you already have wings?" he asked, smiling. "Your Singularity looks so cool!"
"Oh, thank you!" Kohei raised his voice. "I think this is more fun than using them."
"Wanna race?" asked Ben.
"Heh! Sure!"
"Let's still watch out for the others~"
"Mmm..." Juablo put his head on the mattress. "I'm useless," he muttered.
"Glad you're finally willing to admit that," Paula added, smirking.
"You're no better than me!" he looked over at her.
"Huh. This is the first time I'm seeing you without your hat." Lievpad noted.
"Huh? Did it fall off-"
"Up here, peasants!" Neil put Juablo's hat on his finger, spinning it. "Not only am I rich when it comes to money, but I'm also rich with my abilities! He ho~!" he raised his voice. "Are you skilled enough to get your hat back?"
Ben tried snatching it from him, flying near, but Neil moved away, quickly.
"This isn't skill!" Ben said. "Some won't get it the first time."
"You're saying that like I care?" added Kohei.
"Hey, only I can be mean to Juablo!" Paula yelled, but Neil ignored her. "If even Ben can't snatch it."
"Wait," Lievpad said. "I've pretty much got it now." he put his legs on the Emboard, grabbing the rope and flying up. "Look, it's that guy that called us poor," he added, unbothered. "Give him his hat back."
