After that experience, we officially started dating. Once we started dating, time flew by. We got our degrees, got married, and were now expecting a baby. I looked at Alma, she was practically glowing. I knew every pregnancy was different, I'm glad her's was a happy one. I had never seen her so full of life. We packed our suitcases and drove to the airport. Alma's family missed her and wanted us to visit. As I was driving, I couldn't help but admire her beauty from time to time. She had quite the baby bump and she was fairly far along in her pregnancy. We checked in with the doctor and they gave us the okay to fly. She could tell I was looking as she held my hand and laced our fingers together. I felt her ring, engraved inside both of our wedding rings, was the word "Promise". At that moment everything was perfect.

Suddenly, I opened my eyes, my vision was blurry and it felt like my head had cracked open like an egg. I touched my head and felt a warm liquid seeping out, blood. I try to remember what happened; there was a truck horn and then an impact. My blood turns to ice as I frantically search for my wife. I see her delicate hand with her ring under the twisted hunk of metal that was once our car. I shout her name over and over. I try to help her. I tug her hand, it's cold. A feeling of dread overcomes me, her hand is lifeless. I tug harder praying she's okay. Maybe her hand lost circulation. The tears are streaming down my face. I give a final tug until, I finally I pull her dismembered hand free. I'm about to lose my mind when I heard a crying baby. There's still hope, I follow the source of the sound to find a bloody mess that used to be my wife. My stomach is in knots, I get myself together. I need to save our baby. I reach into what used to be her body. My hands are moving faster than my hands. I managed to get my baby from my wife's stomach. The baby was so small. I fished into my pocket to grab my phone. My hands wouldn't stop shaking, they had been covered in my wife's blood. I called 911 in a panic. I told them my location. I tried to soothe my newborn but I had no effect. The baby was so small in my hands, she felt so fragile in my hands. It felt like a harsh wind could extinguish her flame of life. That couldn't happen. The universe wouldn't be so cruel as to snatch away another loved one from me. The tears continued to fall. It was a girl, just like my wife predicted. We had picked out a name but I couldn't recall it. My vision was getting blurry. I felt myself losing consciousness. It sounded like she was struggling to breathe. There was an ambulance approaching us. Hope. She was going to make it. I ran towards the ambulance, running faster than I ever had. The EMT wanted to treat me but I snapped at them and told them to help my baby. I tried to give them the baby but their faces were solemn. The baby had stopped breathing and had gone cold like its mother. My baby had died. My baby died in my hands. I lost consciousness...
