“I hope you had a better sleep tonight, after surviving the death.” The microphone was muffled by the moustachioed man. “You were lucky enough that it rained all night which made it difficult for planes to drop in this city. However, those monsters dropped the bombs on a nearby city, Hohen Wangelin. I visited the ruins this morning. More than fifteen lives were found dead and forty are yet missing. The buildings had been crushed into bricks. People are homeless there, and they will seek refuge in this city.”
Mr. Frank was motionless for some time. Meanwhile, the crowd filled the centre. Eldric and Sascha were on the front foot from the start. Mr. Frank lit a cigarette from his pocket.
“Sir, then what will happen to our neighbourhood? The terraced building is already filled with evacuees that kept coming from all over Germania, to our Vielist. People are dying here, too.” A stranger from the gathering spoke aloud. Until that point, everyone had been listening to Mr. Frank's words. As he was the principal of the school, he had been one of the most respected men in the city. The way he walked with a black coat with a trubenised collar, people would look at a grimace. He was never seen strolling alone in the city. The Wolf had assigned two pistol-handed guards whose job was to accompany Mr. Frank.
“What about the bridge incident that happened yesterday? When will get the dead bodies and justice of their lives?” People showed courage after the voice appeared.
“Ahem,” Mr. Frank snuffed out the cigarette from his nose. “I told you before, yesterday’s act on the bridge was abhorrent. There were nine reportedly found dead. Five were shot by a gun and others lost their lives when running toward the school. We apologize for the late surveillance that consumed time. We took the bodies, and we will return them to their family by this evening. Our investigation for this case has been started.”
People were soon disappearing from the crowd. However, some stayed on the scene, their puckered brows on Mr. Frank who threw the cigarette half-snuffed. Soldiers had packed them on the jeep.
“Are we l-losing the war, Sir?” Sascha took advantage when everyone was clearing the site.
Mr. Frank couldn’t bring a word next. He smiled utterly at Sascha. Eldric found the question dangerous to be asked and stood aside from Sascha.
“Well, not really, Mr. Albrecht.” Mr. Frank came out with. “Not really until we have students like you. You are our next wolf, the future of this country. Wolf never loses.” Mr. Frank gave a weird grin as he had nothing prepared for this scenario.
The green jeeps left the place leaving unknown consternation to the people.
“Our country needs people like us,” Sascha said. “We must become the next Wolf for sake of Germania. We will end this war on our side.”
“Women don’t become Wolf, you know that.” Eldric teased while returning to their home together. Amala hadn’t come to the café which means it will be close for today.
“If a man like you don’t want to be Wolf, then I have taken the place.”
“Hmm, well said! Do you think you can beat Dieter, the first boy of your batch?”
“Remember what our teacher Mr. Lor used to say?!” Sascha continued. “‘If there ish hope, their ish definite possibility to change.” She was good at mimicry but the hefty tone that Mr. Lor made in his language classes wasn’t easy to catch. They had hysterics through the street.
Eugene was in the room when Eldric entered. He didn’t open his store and sat indolently on a chair. He showed busy picking up the newspaper. After a while, Eugene sensed the presence of his son in the room.
“Eldric! you there!” Eugene called.
“Yeah!”
“Then show yourself for a minute. I have a talk with you.”
