"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."
Hebrews 11:1
As far as I have experienced, there are two things that have hindered me from putting faith into practice: fear and thinking that I need to feel something to believe.
Fear: The purpose of fear is to paralyze you, create obstacles for you to stagnate and not move forward. It makes you look at the unfavorable circumstances and forget that we serve the God of the impossible.
Feelings: Feelings come and go from one hour to another, they are totally unstable.
Faith is a certainty, something firm and permanent, so it is based on the Word of God that is living and effective.
Our faith is sustained by the certainty that our mighty God does not lie or repent when he promises something. He delivers!
"God is not human,
that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?"
Numbers 23:19
When fear, doubt or lack of feeling try to steal your faith, fight back with the Word because it is our weapon to overcome any adversity!
"For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12
Pick a few verses you like and every time something tries to steal your faith, recite them - either in your mind or speaking (if you're alone, speak. If you're in public, just think).
"For we live by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7 NIV.
"Don't be afraid; just believe.” Mark 5:36 NIV.
“'If you can'?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”. Mark 9:23 NIV.
" I can do all this through him who gives me strength." Philippians 4:13 NIV.
"Therefore I tell you,
whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
Mark 11:24 NIV.
These were some examples, they don't have to be these or several others, the important thing is to choose one that catches your attention. Hold on to it, keep it in your heart and mind, every time worries come, repeat the verse that caught your attention until you feel peace and calm down.
So if your faith has died, don't despair! Resurrect it by listening to the Word and putting it into practice - don't expect to feel anything, decide to believe and don't go back!
"Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ."
