As a child I was way shorter than my peers, a lot skinnier than average, and I have always been very self conscious about it. Looking back now I realize how cute I was, freckles around my nose, big blue eyes and a little button nose. I was often mistaken for a bit younger than I was, and I suppose I still am. Although, when people hear me speak they change their mind immediately, I’ve always been what they call a “wise soul”, more an adult at heart than a kid. But when I arrived at Kai’s doorstep I just felt like a dumb kid.. “I shouldn’t have gone here… what if she hates me? And I didn’t do my hair, and it’s not like I’m very pretty anyway…and… and-” The door opened, and I hadn't a clue what to say until they spoke… “Hey, was it River or Naomi?” my thoughts stopped along with my heart. “Er– uh, River… I’m sorry about what happened before!” “what was it?” I became frazzled. “Wha- what do you mean?” They looked me up and down “your mother dearest, what did she say?” They seemed like they were genuinely curious, but hid that behind aggression. “Oh she found my hairdryer in a box, and needed me to come get it, she was surprisingly mad about it…” my voice drifted off but the silence didn’t last very long. “Hey, you don’t HAVE to stand outside if you don’t want to.” Kai said, making me basically jump out of my skin, my cheeks were burning from embarrassment. “Oh.. yeah, sorry.” Kai was clearly still mad about my mom-being-a-total-homophobic-karen thing. As I walked in I marveled at their home, I didn’t know people actually lived like this, no real luxuries and their parents certainly didn’t redo the entire house or install high speed internet. But she didn’t have an annoying brother running around. Their house felt so homey. “So… uh why did you come here anyway?” Kai said, breaking my train of thought, “oh, just to apologize… and maybe become friends?” I said hopefully. I wasn’t hopeful for long, Kai sort of chuckled at this notion and said “Sure I guess”, I smiled nervously and decided to follow.
Fay: This chapter went through a heck of a lot of edits and please respect none of these are the final version, in fact these all will be edited to be lengthier and slightly more climactic; this is one of my least favorite so far but with proper work this could grow on me!
Edit 1: No, I don't dislike this chapter, in fact I was one that I wrote, but we do need to edit all of these chapters, for example the introduction which we recently tweaked.
Kai gets a new neighbor, and they seem boring and homophonic. They (Kai) don't want to be around their new neighbors. When she is forced to bring cookies to the new neighbors, they realize there's more to their neighbor than meets the eye. They soon become friends and fall in love with the girl who lives across the street. Having to escape for the Neighbors homophonic parents. They have to find a way to ascape this stupid town. But how?
