Micah
Alistair was one of the most annoying alphas I had ever come across. Every morning I came to work at the coffee shop, he made sure to take his sweet time to order the same five cups of large coffee. He even started to order himself a coffee with espresso in it. Of course, since he was an alpha, he needed it black because he had to show how macho he was drinking that nasty shit without anything in it.
“I think Alistair has the hots for you.” Sherry bent over the counter, resting her hand on her palm.
“And he can shove them right up his ass,” I replied, putting my towel down.
“What? He’s kinda cute.” Sher smirked.
“Then why don’t you date him then.” I huffed, slapping the rag down on the counter. “He’s annoying and pretentious.” Sherry threw her head back in laughter.
“Something tells me you like him.”
“Over my dead fucking body.” I rolled my eyes. Sherry continued her laughter until she turned red in the face.
“The look on your face.” She pointed at me, continuing her laughter. “Whoo.” Sherry wiped at the tears that began to form from her laughter. She tried calming herself down a bit, taking deep breaths. “C’mon Micah, I’ve never seen that man give so much attention to one person. At least I think he likes you.”
“Yeah, no.” I rolled my eyes. “Even if he really did like me, I would rather die than go out on a date with that pretentious asshole.”
“Ohh Micah, he’s not that bad. Plus, he’s loaded. You could be taken care of for the rest of your life.” She smirked.
“I’m not going to turn into some domestic omega, Sherry. I’d rather take care of myself. Do what I want, fuck who I want, and go where I want without asking some Alpha for permission.” I crossed my arms, pursing my lips.
“You quite said the opposite a while ago,” Sherry smirked, trying to back me into a corner.
“I don’t know. I think I’d like to date a rich sugar daddy that's damn near their death than deal with someone like that asshole.” I rolled my eyes, continuing my cleanup.
“I heard he’s single.”
“Technically, I’m taken, taken by whoever I want every night I work at the bar.” I chuckled. “I don’t think I’m a one cock man.”
“Until you find that one special one,” Sherry mumbled under her breath, grabbing a towel to begin to clean with me.
“Sherry, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. I’m thinking about taking a small vacation when my next heat cycle comes. I think maybe if I stop taking the BetaT for a month, it’d reset and work again.” I responded. I had a feeling I knew where her conversation was going. She wanted me to find an Alpha, and quick so I didn’t have to deal with the backlash of an unwanted mating. “So I don’t think my omega stench won’t try to make alpha’s go feral.”
“That doesn’t sound any safer.” She furrowed her brows.
“See, I knew you were trying to set me up with that asshole.” I glared at her. “I have managed myself out on the streets before. I can handle myself in my own apartment for a few days.” Shaking my head, I grabbed the milk jugs we had out from our rush and returned them to the refrigerator.
“I just don’t want you to–” I cut her off.
“End up in an unwanted claim?” I finished her sentence for her. “Trust me, I’ve thought of any awful scenarios that I could go through. I can also tell you I know how to take care of myself. For an omega, I have tough skin.”
I knew anything I would tell her would probably go in one ear and right out the other. But it was worth the try. I didn’t want to be seen as weak because of my stupid second gender. Just because I could bear a child doesn’t mean that I wasn’t capable of taking care of myself. I tried so hard, worked so hard to make it on my own by myself.
My life hadn’t been handed to me like some omegas. My parents didn’t accept the fact that I was gay. They didn’t accept the fact that I wouldn’t be the one making the children, that I would be the carrier parent.
I didn’t understand how they could try to deny me from my bodily autonomy. All they did was destroy my sense of self-worth. To the point where I’d fuck strangers for extra cash, always trying to chase the dollar bill to be able to live.
At times I would wonder what my life would be like had I not come out to my parents. Or if they had accepted me for who I was. Would I be married to a lovely omega girl? Even a beta? Or would I be married to a lovely alpha with a respectable job? Would I have a degree in arts? Selling my paintings for a steep lump of cash.
The tingling of the bell on the door opening brought me out of my thoughts on what could have been.
None other than Alistair came waltzing into the door. “Good morning Alistair,” Sherry greeted the alpha.
“Good morning Sher,” He turned his attention toward me. “Micah.” I swallowed, meeting his yellow eyes.
“Good morning,” I mumbled, turning my eyes from his, looking down at my hands that were still gripping the rag.
“You in here for the coffee?” Sherry asked, grabbing the cups out already.
“Actually, I’m just grabbing my own coffee this morning, and I guess maybe a muffin or something. I have a meeting with the board, and I hate those old toads. I swear they eat cardboard or some shit for breakfast. Because they are so bland, they make salt look spicy.” I had to bite my bottom lip to keep myself from laughing. That was actually a good joke. But in no shape, or form did I want him to know that I that I thought he was funny in any way.
“Well, then, let me give you your coffee and muffin on the house.” Sherry chuckled, promoing the items in the system. “Hey, Micah, could you please grab him a banana muffin? And make him his usual coffee.”
“Okay,” I said meekly, doing as she had told me to do.
I quickly made the coffee with espresso and grabbed the muffin as instructed to do, and I handed them to the alpha. He gave me a gentle smile and thanked me.
“I’m going to look over some reports real quick. I know you’re close to closing time. Is it okay if I stay for a little bit before getting out of your hair?”
“Of course, we wouldn’t mind.” I frowned at her response but didn’t say anything.
“Thank you.” He responded. Alistair walked around the shop, sitting at one of the cleaned tables in the back corner of the shop. He pulled out a laptop and got to work on it. The only sounds in the shop now were the sounds of the humming machines, his typing, and our cleaning.
I couldn’t help but steal a few glances at the handsome alpha, typing furiously on his computer. Today he wore a navy suit with a red tie. His hair was neatly combed to the side, and a look of concentration settled on his features.
“For someone who’s adamant about being a dick to Al, it looks like you have the hots for him.”
“Just because he’s attractive doesn’t mean I like him. He’s good to look at, not to date,” I responded.
“Mhm,” She gave me the side eye. “Anyways, once you go wipe up the tables in the dining area, you’re free to go.” The alphan woman smirked.
“I know what you’re doing, and I hate you, and you’re lucky I need this job.” I pursed my lips, glaring at her.
“I have no clue what you’re talking about.” She slyly said.
“You may think I’m stupid, but I should let you know, had I graduated high school, I would have a fancy schmancy gig now,” I said lowly. “Don’t underestimate my intelligence.”
“I don’t doubt it, I promise you. But seriously though, you clean them tables, and you’re good to go.” I nodded.
While I was wiping the table down beside Alistair, I noticed the alpha’s burning eyes scalding into my side. When I looked up, the Alpha’s face turned red.
“I never knew an alpha could blush.” I chuckled, shaking my head, turning back to the table.
“Well, you’re a cute omega, and your scent, it’s kinda strong. Any alpha would blush in your presence.” Another thing I wouldn’t expect to come from him. It was almost enough for me to reconsider what Sherry had been telling me all along. But, no, the dumb dumb alpha just had to continue. “You should totally give me your number.”
“And you should get a life, but here we are.” I motioned my hand to the coffee shop. I turned toward the counter. “Sherry, I’m done wiping the tables. I’m heading out.” I told the Alpha, who was counting the drawer down in her office.
She waved her hand at me, letting me know that she had heard me. I went to the office and grabbed my things. “He’s still out there,” I told her.
“Don’t worry, Micah. I’ll see you tomorrow morning.” She put the money back into the drawer and began to count the coins. “Be careful tonight, alright?” Sherry looked up for a second before going back to counting the coins.
“I will.” I chuckled, turning around to leave her office. “See you in the morning.” She waved at me again, and I left work.
