" What did he say? " I asked her, putting my axe aside.
" He wanted to know more about you. It seems like he's intrigued by you. " She said her eyes cloudy with annoyance.
I frowned and asked her to continue.
" I told him you were our Alpha which was obvious and I also told him that he should be thanking the Moon Goddess that you decided to tend to him instead of leaving him to die that night. " She said with a huff, her dislike for him showing.
Oh, right. The Moon Goddess. Our protector.
The pack had explained to me that the Moon Goddess was the one who all wolves and werewolves alike worshipped.
" She's our eternal protector. Long ago when werewolves first emerged as a merging of a human and a wolf's soul, the moon goddess who was already the mother of all wolves decided to spread her patronage to werewolves too. " I remembered them telling me.
Even though it was far fetched for most people to believe, deep down, I truly felt her gaze on us and I thanked her for letting me meet my pack on that full moon night.
" Anyway. He said he wanted to speak with you. " Daen said, bringing me back to the present.
I raised my eyebrow and scoffed. I wasn't going to be at his beck and call.
Quickly tying my shifting cloaks to my legs, I shifted and went over to the other side. I glanced at him as he looked at me cautiously, but instead of going to him I passed the cage and headed over to the pups and Carlen.
" I'm heading over to get some herbs. You guys want to come for a run? " I asked them. With the incoming of this alpha, everything had been tensed and none of us got a chance to relax properly.
They immediately leapt up and the pups literally bounced up and down as they followed me.
I looked behind to Pedro and gave him a nod, which he returned too and from the corner of my eye, I could see the alpha's amused gaze centred at me.
...
" Ninyaaaaaa. Are you really alright? " Keyu asked me as she ran around my legs, her eyes never leaving my face. " Of course my dear. " I said as I ruffled her fur and bent down to pick some camomile. Picking herbs was one of my favourite ways to calm down.
" Who even is that wolf? " Hyun asked as he ran over and jumped on his sister.
The twins were born after I had become the alpha and were extremely close to me. When they were tiny pups and it got cold outside, I would take them into the house and wrap them up warmly on my bed and tell them stories.
And even though they were quite big now, they would still try sneaking into the house and sleeping on my bed and of course would get told off by me nicely in the end.
Carnel walked around quietly with us, content that I had asked him to come too. He was a shy teenage boy, the same age as Meria, which would explain why they were best friends.
" He's another Alpha. That's all we know right now, Hyun. " I said as he demanded that I ruffle his fur too.
" But why is he here. Our pack is too far away from any other known packs. How did he end up so far astray? " Carnel asked breaking his silence with a worried look, voicing all of my concerns too.
I sighed as I shook my head. " I don't know Carnel. I don't know. " I admitted as I felt my frown coming back.
Everything that was happening, I despised it. I despised what I had to do to maintain order. Growling wasn't my thing. Violence wasn't my thing either.
My pack would attest to the fact that I was usually very gentle and calm, of course with a side of fun. But when it came to being an alpha, I convinced myself that I was only one because I had a pack to take care of.
The last time I had growled so much was a few years back when I accidentally ran into a tiger on one of my runs and freaked out.
...
I found myself sitting in front of the cage and staring at him when I came back. He looked back at me, his expression showing his amusement. And in all honesty, it started to irk me.
" Who are you? " I asked again in a grim voice. He looked at me for a second before answering. " Felix. " He said, finally letting us hear his deep and husky voice for the first time.
" The name's Felix, and I am the Alpha of the Civerin Pack. " He said without breaking eye contact with me.
Pedro growled behind me. " The Civerin Pack is almost a hundred and fifty miles away from us. " He said.
" How did you end up here? " I asked. " I was on a run, which was a usual part of my routine and just as I got into the dense areas, I got ambushed. " He said as he glanced at his injuries.
" They were too many of them. I had no option but to run away and I got lost while shaking them off my trail, thus ended up here. I howled to see if my pack was around. But clearly, you guys were the only ones who heard me. " He said as he glanced at Pedro and Daen, who were sitting right behind me.
I frowned as I listened to him. Even if he shook them off somewhere on the way, they could still be searching for him and might find us. I shook the thought away and told myself to concentrate on the issue sitting in front of me first.
" And what about you? Why did you get me here? " He asked with a low growl as he got up and inched forward towards me till there was only the cage mesh separating us.
