I looked at Daen in confusion and I felt the entire packs eyes on me. " What do you mean, he smells like me? " I asked with wide eyes, concerned as to what was happening.
" He's a shifter, Ninya. Like you. " Pedro said.
I looked back at the wolf and I felt my breaths coming out shortly.
A shifter.
That meant he was a werewolf too.
Emotions that I didn't know rushed in as I felt anxious and angry. Things had been extremely hard for me from the time I had shifted. I didn't even know or understand what was happening myself. And now seeing another werewolf in front of me triggered those buried emotions.
Where was he when I first shifted? Were there more of them? Where had they been when I first shifted? I was all alone and scared for my life when it had first happened and I didn't even know who I was anymore.
I clenched my fist and tried to calm myself down.
He needed treatment or he wouldn't survive to answer my questions.
I channelled this thought as I calmed down and ran into the house to get all the things I needed.
...
Morning arrived and I woke up sluggishly. I felt the soft fur under my head and against my sides as I saw the pups curled up beside me and Daen protectively keeping a watch from under my head.
I pet her soft fur with a smile and she looked back to see me awake. " How's your wound? " She whispered. " It's alright. Doesn't hurt. " I said.
Daen was like an elder sister to me. Even though I was an alpha, she guided me through most things and explained how the hierarchy worked and everything when I first met them. It would be an understatement to say that she had helped me become the alpha I was.
The break of dawn was visible over the horizon as the rays of light started peeking out.
I woke up in a start and looked towards the mattress that I had dragged down from my bed.
He was still there.
Yesterday night's events were evidently not a dream.
I inched closer and checked on him. Daen was immediately by my side and the pups who had now awoken because of our movement were standing next to me as they tried to act brave, despite the intimidating huge alpha in front of them.
He was still unconscious but his breathing was back to normal. I looked at the wounds that I had patched up for him.
Must have been a serious fight, I thought.
He still needed plenty of rest, that was for sure.
" We need to make sure he doesn't attack us the moment he wakes up. " Meria said as she peeked in from behind us and I nodded in agreement.
...
It had been three days and he had still not awoken. I left Daen to take care of the situation and headed upstairs to get some work done.
Not even thirty minutes had passed when I first sensed something was off. I already started running downstairs when I heard the growls increase.
I ran down and the moment I was out, I immediately shifted.
The scene that I was greeted with was the other Alpha baring his teeth at everyone as he tried getting out of the cage I had built around him.
Good thing I had done that. I wasn't taking any chances with him around my pack.
I barked at my pack asking them to fall back as I approached him.
Meeting his eyes, I could see the anger flash behind the blue tint. " Stop. " I barked at him, channelling my entire alpha self with every syllable I uttered.
But that just made him angrier. He growled back at me but was weaker than what we had encountered before for his strength had not yet returned.
Realising the same thing, he moved to a corner as he remained in his defensive position. I slowly sat down and calmly asked him, " Who are you? And why did we find you here? "
He looked at me and looked behind at my pack. He scanned every one of them like he was trying to assess which ones were a threat.
Genir growled at him as his eyes fell on Hyun and Keyu. A mother's protectiveness could even speak up against an alpha's orders.
" Who are you? " I asked again patiently and he looked at me and met my eyes.
He looked like he was considering whether or not he should answer and decided against it as he continued to give us the silent treatment.
I got up and immediately the other alpha was on guard again. But instead of facing him I turned back to my pack and signalled for Daen and Pedro to keep an eye on him.
The new wolf growled in response as he saw Daen and Pedro approaching and something suddenly snapped inside me.
I looked back and growled ferociously at him like I had never done before.
Sure, he was in a new place and was confined, but he was safe and his wounds were being tended to. And clearly, gratitude wasn't on his list of things to do.
I walked up to him and said, " We intend no harm, but you dare try hurting any of us, you will face consequences. " I growled.
If it was any other wolf, they would've been very intimidated by now. But since he was an alpha, he looked at me in silence and retreated to his corner.
A few hours later I came back and slid a piece of meat from a kill the others had gotten in the morning.
" Are you sure, Daen? If he really was a werewolf like me, he would have shifted by now. " I had asked her yesterday, still sceptical about everything.
And honestly deep down I didn't want to believe that he really could be a werewolf.
Either way, I wasn't taking a risk with him and every time I approached him, I was always in my wolf form.
" Alpha. He seems manageable now. Still freaks me out that he's just observing us like that, but I guess he's just using his time to gain energy. " Meria had said when she came to report the situation the next day.
I nodded as I chopped wood on the other side of the house.
One of the disadvantages of living in the forest away from the town was that there was no electricity.
But it didn't bother me though, most of the things I needed were solar-powered, but sometimes I'd have to chop wood for heat when it started becoming chilly.
Just as I was about to lay my axe on another log, Daen came up to me.
" He finally talked. " She said as her eyes darkened.
