The house didn't look as dreary when she pulled up the curtains. What was she even thinking? Why did she even think she could get a blink of sleep? She thought to herself as she slowly walked away from the window.
It was 7:03 am when she rolled off her bed with sleep-deprived eyes. She had laid down immediately after getting into the house, and for an hour, she still didn't get any sleep. Her head ached less now must be the medicine she took. She pulled the hooded sweater she wore to reveal blood stains all over it.
"Ugh," she threw the hoodie across the room into a basket filled with dirty laundry she always remembered and forgot to wash. How did she not know that she bled this much? She flexed her left arm, but all she felt was the numbing pain. Not sharp enough, but oh well. She started to the shower to wash away dried blood stains and the ugly smell of cigarettes from the bar.
When Sam was out of the bathroom, her stomach growled loudly, reminding her that she hadn't eaten for hours. She had a small old-looking fridge given to her by the former neighbors who had moved not long ago. Opening it, she found some leftover pizza which she ate as breakfast.
The sun was perfectly out, spilling happy rays into the small apartment from the window. The time was already a few minutes past eight, and not leaving on time would mean the bus departing without her.
One thing about the cafe job she didn't like was deciding what to wear. Her boss told her that she never dressed 'competent' but still couldn't spend money on getting uniforms. Sam sighed as she settled for a blue hoodie that she wore over the gray colored t-shirt she was wearing and slipped into slightly baggy jeans. She mentally noted that she needed to get the wound on her arm bandaged.
Finally done with everything, she picked up her phone as usual and placed it in her pocket. She left the house and turned the key, locking the door behind her. The street was already busy with cars and people trying to get to their places of work on time, and she joined them. Walking towards the bus stop, she stood briefly, watching as people passed. She never was one to fuss over people. She had always wanted to live in a secluded place- a farm? The fewer people she interacted with, the better.
The bus ride was seemingly uncomfortable, but she was used to it. She stopped by the pharmacy on the street where the cafe was, got what she needed, and soon continued to the coffee house.
The glass door of the cafe was already open, but not to customers, and she walked in to meet three other people arranging and cleaning the place- her co-workers. Putting up a smile, she greeted them just like at the bar. Always like this, always.
Soon after, the mundane streak of coffee, tea, cakes, and the like started. Sam's coffee-making skills weren't bad, a few people had complimented her brewing method a few times, but she preferred the bar. All she saw here was pretense, people walking in with all smiles like they were better than everyone else, but at the bar, the people that walked in were real. Annoying but real.
It was lunch break already, and the cafe was temporarily closed. The other workers talked among themselves about literally everything while she just sat there wishing she could do something to shut them up. A girl could dream.
Time passed, and it was back to coffee and tea making. Although, many people didn't come for coffee after lunch. But that wasn't much of her problem as long as she got paid at the end of the month.
Slowly and boringly, it was already 4 pm. It was time to get out of this place. At least there was enough time to rest briefly before returning to the bar. Just like that, she followed her mundane routine of checking out with the rest of the workers who shared her shift or rather Jennifer's for that week.
Sam walked home in complete weariness, head throbbing again. She couldn't get it to stop, and once again, she would have to take more of the meds, as usual. Not minding that, she got into the bus that had already stopped and made her way home.
Sam prefers her quiet life, being alone away from others living like a cloud in the sky. Her mundane life was all she needed, but fate is not on her side as she comes across someone who turns her world into a roller-coaster of emotions.
Chris on the other hand is tired of her current lifestyle and wants a change, an artist running away from the planned fate that have been laid out for her by her parents.
