The triplets were staring down at me in my crib. I had recently found out the boys were identical triplets, which, given their appearances, came at no surprise. The oldest was Callan, Deren was in the middle, and Marden was the youngest. The boys had been visiting me nearly everyday since I came into this world. I couldn't fathom why. It made sense that Dalla and Terron came every day. I was a helpless baby and they had no nanny or maids. They took turns tending to me and looking after The Bluebird Boutique. Dalla and Terron ran a clothing boutique that kept them quite busy. We lived above it, and I had been carried through it several times. It was a small, cozy space, filled with beautiful clothing and accessories. I found it to be very lovely, and oddly familiar. There was just one assistant in the shop, a young man named Karal. Terron and Dalla made the clothing and Karal made the accessories. It seems working and looking after children were gender-neutral activities in this world, so Terron and Dalla both worked and took care of me. But why the triplets came was a mystery. They were just five, much too little to care for a four-month old. They sometimes kept an eye on me when the adults were in another room, but they also came to my crib of their own volition. Why did they take such interest in me? I am not interesting at all in my present state. Besides, Andrew had never so much as glanced my way . Isn't that how siblings normally are? Yet, these boys stared at me, completely entranced. "I think," Marden began slowly, " That we have the cutest little sister in the whole world." Callan nodded vigorously. "Yeah! Babies are usually weird looking! But Pie's like a doll." The boys had taken to calling me Pie, taking it from how the first half of my new name was pronounced. I had in turn, tried to come up with silly nicknames for the boy, but had failed to come up with anything creative. I guess Cally, Derry, and Mary would have to do. "No, Pie's cuter than any doll, ever." Deren declared, with a very serious look on his face. The other two agreed. I'd seen myself in the mirror down in the clothing shop, I really wasn't much to look at. I was small and squishy. I had the same olive skin tone as Terron and his dark blue eyes. The only thing even remotely impressive about me was my green hair. It was just starting to grow, and looked to be several shades lighter than Terron's, and wavy like Dalla's hair. Surely that wasn't enough to provide entertainment? I would have asked if I could. I don't think I ever realized before how wonderful communication is. Being able to ask questions and voice opinions is incredible. I would love it if I could ask "Why are you so interested in me? Wouldn't you rather play with your toys or run around outside?" And "Could you please close the curtains? The sun is very bright!" And most importantly: "I've been reborn from another world! I know I look like a baby, but I have the mind of a young adult! Please treat me as such!" But who knows how that would go over. I don't think infants with adult minds are normal here. Everyone I've met has treated me like a normal baby. No one I've met has asked if I could possibly be an adult on the inside. So maybe it's best that I can't talk. 'Cause I'm not sure I could keep that secret contained. Callan suddenly poked my cheek. I did my best to swat at him. Callan grinned and did it again. I did my best to scowl at him, and all the boys burst into laughter. Ugh. Would they always be this annoying?
I'm sure you've heard many stories like mine before. A young woman from Earth gets reincarnated into a fantasy world inside a novel. Typically they end up as a heroine, villainess, or a side character. I did not end up in any of these roles. I became a complete and total background character. I'm only mentioned once in passing and I'm not even given a name! However, this ends up being perfect for me. I get to live a quiet and peaceful life with my family. The main plot is full of drama and suspense. There are love triangles, epic battles, and tragic betrayals. I have no interest in getting involved in any of that. But when I unexpectedly develop magic powers, will I become a main character? I have no interest in that!
