Aiden stood outside the Curse-be-gone offices with a look of worry etched into his face. After sleeping so long while cursed he had not been able to get more than a couple of hours’ rest at home his mind churning away over what he had done and how Eve had reacted. She was angry, but then she always seemed to get angry at him. He could understand that he had mucked up, that he kept causing problems, but it still felt unfair as he was trying so hard to do something good. Couldn’t she remember what it was like starting out? He just wanted to experience things, but he couldn’t get that experience if he wasn’t allowed to make some stupid mistakes along the way. Well maybe his mistakes had been a bit too stupid even by normal standards but still he held that he should be given a chance.
All his resolve got a bit shaky as the front door creaked open revealing Eve wearing another t-shirt. This time the slogan “Let me check your pulse.” set above dripping vampire fangs. Her hair was also up in a half attempt at a bun, it made her look younger but more mature at the same time. The little details were easier to take in as he slowly got his jaw working to form a coherent sentence.
“Eve I…”
She just watched him with slow blinks leaning on the doorway. There was a forced calmness to this as though she was trying to bury the anger. It was more than a bit unsettling, like seeing a volcano blow then hearing it rumble but not explode quite yet as it built up the pressure again.
“I’m sorry. What I did was stupid. I should have listened to you. You gave me an opportunity to think and instead I gave an unwanted or needed kiss to a client and endangered my own life as well as your career.”
There was no response just more watching. Aiden felt a tug, a deep need to fill the silence.
“I don’t know what I can do to make it right, time travel obviously isn’t an option but I will do better I swear. Though you need to teach me here. I’m here to learn and all that seems to happen is that I try something then get yelled at or stared into a long silence. Can’t you help? I’m in the bad but please just try to help me...”
He swore he wasn’t going to cry. This was so stupid he had mucked up. He had done something bad but it was too excessive. No those weren’t the marks of tears he was wiping away now, just sore eyes. Sore eyes that was all, it was summer after all and hay fever was a thing. A thing he didn’t get but still it was possible.
“All done?” She responded after a long uncomfortable moment. He nodded as respectfully as he could. His words had been heartfelt maybe this would curb her anger at him. Maybe.
“Come on in then. It is going to be such a fun day.” Eve ushered him in with her sickly sweetest voice with eyes wide with mischief. Though the brief squeeze he felt on his shoulder made him wonder if she had taken his words more to heart than she was letting on.
