This is how my life of 18 years ended. It was a lonely life, but I knew I was privileged. I never had to worry about food, money, or housing. All of that was taken care of for me. So I knew I shouldn't complain. Still, I really would have liked a loving family and some friends. Oh well. Too late now. I was alone, drifting through this endless void. Is this the afterlife? Just floating through space? Was I heading towards heaven? Would I be alone there? Without friends or family who would I spend eternity with? I think I'd rather take my chances with reincarnation. Of course a new life could be just as lonely as my previous one. It would be nice to get a new life with guarantee of companionship. Maybe I could even be an ally of Princess Ari... "If that is what you desire, I will make it happen." A soft, indistinct voice echoed all around me. I hardly had time to process what it said, when a glaring light blinded my vision.
"Congratulations! You have a healthy little girl!" A voice exclaimed cheerfully. Huh? Who was that? I opened up my eyes, but the world was blurry. I blinked several times and my surroundings came into view. A man and a woman were looking down at me in wonder. I could see another woman in white standing at the end of the bed. Who were these people? Where was I? "Oh darling! Look, she had your eyes!" The woman near me said. The man by her side began to cry. "She's so beautiful!" He blubbed through his tears. The women both smiled. "She is indeed. I'll give you two some time alone with your daughter. I'll be just outside if you need me." The woman in white said slipping out of the room. The remaining man and woman began chatting. I ignored them, trying to figure out what was going on. I tried to move, but found I was restricted. I looked down. A green blanket was wrapped around me. Was that my body? Why was I so tiny? Wait. This is a baby's body! I've been reborn as an infant! Did that mean the two people in this room were my parents? I took a closer look at them. The woman had bright orange hair and - yellow eyes‽ The man had deep blue eyes and dark green hair. Was it Halloween or something? Or did they just like colored contacts and hair dye? I tried to look past their unusual features, attempting to figure out what sort of people they were. They both appeared to be wearing simple clothes. Their faces seemed nice, but I couldn't tell for sure. My eyes left my potential parents and swept around the room. It appeared to be a small bedroom, with hardwood floors and plain wood walls. A patchwork quilt covered the bed, and a large trunk sat at the end. A small chest of drawers was on my left, and a short bookshelf on my right. It was full of books, giving me some hope about the people I was with. Sunlight streamed over me. I figured there was a window above the bed, but I couldn't turn around to check. The man and the woman were quietly watching as I took in my surroundings. The quiet was disrupted by pounding footsteps and muffled voices outside the door. "You mustn't... Not yet...." The door burst open and three little boys tumbled in. They were all carbon copies of the women holding me. "How's the baby? Is it a boy or a girl?" Asked one boy. "Is it ugly? What's its name?" Asked another. "Mama, are you okay? Is the baby okay?" Asked the third. They all stared up at us with sparkling yellow eyes. I gaze back at them, as they crowd around the bed. "Woah!" all three boys gasp. "The baby has eyes like papa!" One of them exclaims. The woman holding me laughed softly and the green-haired man shook his head with a chuckle. "Boys, meet your baby sister. She and I are both just fine. And yes, she has her father's eyes. Based on the bit of peach fuzz she has, I think she'll have his hair too." The boys stare in wonder. The man is beaming with pride. "And as for her name, we've decided to call her Pyra." "Hi Pyra! I'm Callan!" One boy exclaims. His hair is the longest of the three. "Hello." Says the only one of the trio with freckles. "I'm Deren." "And I'm Marden!" Shouts the last boy. His eyes are slightly darker than his brothers. The woman smiles down at me. "And I am your mother. My name is Dalla." The man crouches down to come face-to-face with me. "And I'm your dad. My name is Terron. Welcome to the family, my darling."
I'm sure you've heard many stories like mine before. A young woman from Earth gets reincarnated into a fantasy world inside a novel. Typically they end up as a heroine, villainess, or a side character. I did not end up in any of these roles. I became a complete and total background character. I'm only mentioned once in passing and I'm not even given a name! However, this ends up being perfect for me. I get to live a quiet and peaceful life with my family. The main plot is full of drama and suspense. There are love triangles, epic battles, and tragic betrayals. I have no interest in getting involved in any of that. But when I unexpectedly develop magic powers, will I become a main character? I have no interest in that!
