They're both hurting each other... Nina's mom often looks down on Nina's interest in music (probably has something to do with her husband or with her own past life's regrets), and I think she has a mental illness of sorts which Nina just used to bite at her (very rude of Nina, but I imagine her mood was spoiled by the meeting with her band's manager. Otherwise she wouldn't have wanted to set their backyard on fire in the first place lol).
Regardless, it seems like this kind of communication is a usual thing for them, especially on bad days. That's not healthy at all.
