“I still can’t believe how you pulled that off Julia,” Tobias says while putting on his coat.
Julia sighs, “I can and it pays to be engaged to his son.”
Morning light broke through the windows in the main hall near the front door. It had been a week since the ball and today was the day Julia officially gets access to the uncensored libraries. So she and Tobias chose to spend the day reading and researching the contents of the library.
Once Julia finished putting on her coat, a butler approached the children, “The carriage is ready young masters,” he bowed.
“Thank you, you are dismissed,” Julia responded.
Before Julia and Tobias could walk out the door, someone grabbed the hoods of their coats and pulled them into a hug. It was Ingrid, “Have fun kiddos, and don’t stay out too long. Your father and I will be lonely,” Ingrid kissed the foreheads of her children and let them be on their way.
The children climbed aboard their carriage and were on their way to their first location, the church.
“So hey will you tell me why you want to research the church so much? And will you tell me about these divine beasts you want?” Tobias asked.
Julia looked out the window, “How much do you want to know? Because there are some things I can’t tell yo-.”
Tobias snapped his fingers at Julia, “Hey! Stop looking out the window and brooding. You do that way too much and I want eye contact when you talk to me, jeez,” Tobias poked fun at the way Julia acted and she chose to stare him directly in the eyes.
“I want to find the Serpent Twins,” She said.
Tobias’s eyes widened, “Are you nuts!?” He shouted.
“Shhhhh!” Julia shushed him in annoyance.
Tobias covered his mouth and whispered, “are you nuts?”
“No I’m not crazy I-“ Julia tries to explain herself, but Tobias still was losing it.
“T-t-they are a myth and even if they were real we wouldn’t even know where they would be,” Tobias put his hand over his face and silently screamed.
Julia reached her hand over the carriage and smacked Tobias on the head, “Will you let me finish!” She yelled.
Tobias let out a yelp and went back to normal only just pouting now.
“Alright, I would like to discover the Serpent twins so I can be just as powerful as Laurence,” she explained.
“Hey what do you mean just as powerful as Laurence? Like you want to be equals?” Tobias asked.
“Hey you didn’t let me finish, and you have to promise to keep this between us okay?”
Tobias nodded, “what happens in the carriage, says in the carriage,” Tobias held out his pinky to her, “pinky promise?”
Julia giggled at the childish gesture, but pinky promised him anyways, “I do not plan on marrying Laurence or being the empress.”
Tobias fainted.
Julia rolled her eyes, “Tobi, you are overreacting,” she sighed.
Tobias got up. “Who cares if I'm overreacting about that, I just heard that you were not going to marry the dude you have been obsessing over for the past I don’t know, ten years?! And I think it's a downgrade going from empress to duchess…”
“Okay and? I don’t care. I don’t want to marry him, and I don’t care if I am going to be empress or not, I just don’t want to be anywhere near that family so I’d rather not face the consequences of being weak and rejecting him. So that’s why I need one of the Serpents,” Julia explained.
“But you said there were twins? What are we going to do with the second one?” Tobias asked.
Julia gave him a devilish smile, “that’s where you come in little brother.”
Tobias shook his head and crossed his arms to form an ‘x,’ “Oh no, no no no, I’m not getting involved in this. We both could be killed! And mom and dad would be very sad! And I wouldn’t be able to eat any more tiny sandwiches...” He trailed off.
Julia once again snapped her finger at him, “Tobias you’re spiraling again.”
“I have a right to spiral! You are making plans to basically ignore the entire empire!” Tobias cried, “I think I'm going to have a heart attack,” he clutched his chest, “I’m too young to die!”
“Oh come on it’s not that bad,” Julia added.
As soon as she was finished talking the carriage came to a stop, “we have arrived your graces,” the diver said.
“Come on Tobi, you can finish your hissy fit on the way back home; we have work to do,” Julia said while getting out of the carriage.
Tobias gave her a dirty look before they both were escorted into the building. The church was a large white building with vines and other plans growing on the walls, the ceiling was glass so that everyone could see the sky. Day or night, rain or shine, all were welcome in the house of the goddess.
Once the children reached the door two priests came to escort the two, “I apologize we must take them from here to the library, the grand priest requested it,” they apologized.
The coachmen bowed to their young masters and went back to the carriage.
