I heard the hissing again, but this time closer. It came from the arena. I went forward and looked out of my cage. In the arena, several mice whizzed around and in the middle of it stood a gray British Shorthair cat. Her sharp claws flash in the sunshine and she threw a little brown mouse into the air, caught it again with her mouth and threw it in my direction. The mouse landed on a board that led over the small ditch and into the cage next to me. I remembered that orange shining eyes had already been watching me out of this cage. As it looked, it must have been her eyes. And I recognized them too. It was Laura. Vanessa's best friend. I sat down and watched her for a while. She caught all the mice and threw most of them on this board next to the first one. The last two she ate with skin and hair. She ran back into her cage and took the remaining mice with her. Luckily, I had that day off. The next thing, however, I had to fight Luck. It would have been very easy for me to defeat him. He was half starved and therefore weak and slow. In addition, he did not seem to make much effort. When he pulled out again, I did not dodge, but let him hit me. I pretended that this blow threw me back and I sprained my paw. I staggered a bit and ran straight into his next blow. Luck noticed what I was up to and gratitude and insight flashed in his sad eyes. I threw myself on my back and made sounds that a person who has no idea about animals would interpret as sounds of pain. I pulled myself up, limped away from Luck and let myself fall back to the ground. Luck stood above me and growled at me playfully.
I could hear Araña's voice from above saying, "Bien hecho, traidor! You haven't been that good in a long time. However, it took quite a long time for you to finally meet this annoying cat. But then you have already defeated them quite quickly. Come on, traitor, back to your cage!" Luck ran back into his cage crouched down and someone, presumably Araña, threw rotten fruits and vegetables at him. Luck got some straw and a small piece of meat. I limped back into my cage because I didn't want anyone to come down and throw me in, and maybe even realize that I hadn't hurt myself at all. In the evening, Luck threw a small piece of meat over to me and thanked me for pretending to defeat me. For the next three days, I had to fight someone again and again. Once against Laura, then again against Lina and Lena and then again against Luck. Sometimes I won and sometimes I lost. We tried not to hurt each other too much and then always shared the profit in the evening. On the fourth day I was supposed to fight Laura again, but it didn't get that far…
