A/N:
¡Feliz Día de Muertos, marineros! We couldn’t miss the opportunity to feature our boys in this increasingly known and popular holiday, specially when we have a Universe settled in Mexico, in 1815. –We have a Universe in almost any country and any age of the world… yeah, try us!– As you may know, this fest is originally from Mexica mythology and Christian tradition which tried to match it with All Saints’ Day –1st and 2nd November–, although they couldn’t make it as austere as intended... fortunately! Painting faces as sugar skulls as well as dressing up didn’t become popular until the appearance of La Catrina character during the Twenties, so we found an excuse for our boys to decorate their faces as calaveritas de azúcar, as well as for Lu Han to wear his costume of the popular character: El Charro Negro.
This illustration was such a challenge… one of those times you don’t know how it’s going to end up, but because of that and its surprisingly cool final result, quickly became one of our favourites! –Do we always say the same?– We tried our best to portray the atmosphere of the Mexican graveyards during these holidays, as dark as warm due to the candles’ light, the seclusion and joy feeling at the same time, and its characteristic colour. Hope you also think we managed to capture it! We’d love to know your opinion, even more if you’re from Mexico!
Have a great Día de Muertos, seamen!🕯️
