From the moment she had walked in he was no longer a Doctor but a man a full-blooded Greek man who couldn’t for the life of him think straight, she was breathtaking, he had never seen a creature so beautiful in all of his 35 years on this earth.
Soft copper hair curling around her perfectly oval face, her skin was alabaster with a few light freckles scattered over her nose adding to her absolute beauty, her eyes he couldn’t stop staring at her eyes every time she lifted her head and looked in his direction her eyes had stabbed his heart, rendered him dumb that is why he had asked his idiotic question, he had turned into a gibbering idiot the second she had looked into his eyes, gone were the years of medical school, all the times he had to give speeches and be the man of the hour because of his buoyant personality, he was a true people’s person except for today, those eyes had wrecked his composure.
Green with flecks of amber and a navy blue ring around the iris, he had never seen eyes like that and they had looked right into him, had made his brain a puddle of goop, his heart pounded in his ears what had just happened?
He was still staring at the door Miss Hart had left through; I’m a Doctor for Pete’s sake, not a love-sick fool who falls for every beautiful face.
…
20 Minutes prior…
She had flounced into the consultation room, plopped down onto the chair and didn’t even look up to greet him, he who was supposed to be her Doctor from now on, she had sat there staring at her hands nodding as he spoke and introduced himself, unsure if she was listening to a word he said.
She had mumbled about feeling nauseous and needing a pregnancy test to confirm what she already suspected, he had tried to get her to look up and focus on the task at hand by tapping his pen on the table a few times, he needed her to acknowledge him as her new physician and realize that he was not the previous Gynaecologist Dr Miles, yet she just kept staring at her hands.
He had gotten up and walked around the desk to stand in front of her so that she could look up instead of just staring down and mumbling, then walk to the table to have her finger pricked and vitals taken before he did a urinalysis and could confirm or deny her suspicions.
He thought she was just being shy, so he put his index finger under her chin and lifted her face up to meet his eyes, the moment their eyes met the world stood still, the room disappeared all he could see were these two mesmerizing eyes staring back at him with the craziest look in them, pain and recognition, how did he know this woman, it was impossible to shake this feeling of intense familiarity in his being. Yet he knew he had never met her before. The air was fizzing around them and his fingers tingled where they met her skin.
He was speechless, no he was mute even more so she had struck him dumb, he couldn’t let go of her chin he couldn’t move, he just couldn’t breathe.
She stared into his eyes, he stared right back into hers and hours could have passed like that for all he cared.
A sudden knock on the door brought him back, he grabbed his hand back and cleared his throat, his receptionist Joan was standing in the doorway with an almost quizzical expression on her face tilting her head forward so she could look over the rim of her spectacles at the new Doctor who suddenly looked like a little boy caught with his hand in the cookie jar, he cleared his throat and she stepped into the room walking to his desk and placing a few files down that he had to go through before the patients arrived for their appointments during the day.
Joan turned her head slightly to look at Miss Hart and said in a matter-of-fact voice, when Dr Papadopoulos, Is done with your examination you are more than welcome to have a cup of tea with me in the reception area Laelia.
The woman spoke a lot louder and clearer than when she was mumbling earlier under her breath, Thank you, Auntie Joan, that will be lovely, another shock she had a soft melodious voice that sounded breathy and musical to his ears, he shook his head slightly and frowned. Did she know his receptionist? Are they friends, family, or acquaintances?
Joan squeezed Miss Hart’s shoulder and left the consultation room closing the door with an audible click.
Andreas was still trying to recover from his little apoplectic moment minutes ago and couldn’t quite get his words out. What? Me shy, he thought to himself and gave a rueful laugh, looked up and into her startled eyes and immediately looked at the floor, what is wrong with me? He wondered as he turned around grabbed a consultation sheet and stared at the words making no sense to him, had she hypnotised him with her oddly mesmerising eyes or was he having first-day jitters at the new practice?
Stop it he thought to himself, deep breath chin up, a smile on your face this is a patient be professional. And he plastered on a smile and took a deep breath, maybe I need a few more deep breaths he thought as he sucked in another one, just for good measure, ok I am ok.
I apologise Miss Hart first day jitters had me jumping all over the place, I am Dr Papadopoulos I will be your new gynaecologist since Dr Miles has retired and I have taken over this practice, how may I be of assistance today?
