" That was a really good movie! " Brandon exclaimed as we walked out of the theatre. " Yes! They made the character development very intricate and interesting and it gives a lot to think about afterwards. " I said as I agreed with him.
" Exactly. The tinge of satirical comedy that they added was perfect too. Not too little and not too overbearing. Just right. " He replied. We happily talked away as we analysed the movie and I for one was quite surprised.
It isn't often that I find people who are willing to have long conversations about the workings of a movie rather than just raving about it for a bit and moving on.
Fran and Luan were like that, they don't get in too deep to spare so much brain energy for analysing the plot whereas Conney was the opposite. He always thought about things deeply, no matter how superficially they portrayed it, he can always find a deeper meaning.
We walked slowly to the car, still talking and laughing as we sipped our drinks. As we reached the car, my sight fell on the dent and I frowned. It wasn't too big but it was still pretty easy to make out.
Following my line of sight, Brandon saw the cause of my frown and said, " I wrote the licence plate number down before the movie started. You can book that guy and charge him if you want. "
I shook my head and said, " Nah. It's not worth the time, energy, or effort. You saw how that guy is, he'll come up with some issue or the other to drag things out and delay the process. I'd rather just have it fixed before my brother sees it. "
I scratched my head as I envisioned the furrowed eyebrows that I would be subjected to if he saw the dent.
On mentioning my brother, Brandon frowned slightly. Assuming that he didn't know I had a brother, I immediately spoke up again.
" You see my elder brother has a tendency to drop in and check on me at the most random moments. And so if he ends up seeing this dent, he's definitely going to give me a long lecture about driving safety. "
" Ah... I see... " Brandon said, a bit in thought. " So when are you planning on getting that fixed? You should probably get it done as soon as possible then right? " He continued as he finished his drink.
" Hmm ... I'm not sure. Ideally yes, I would like to get it done... There is a place that I know around here... " I murmured as I thought about it.
" It's only nine. If you think it won't be closed you can drop it off now. And we can go back to the dorm in a cab. " He said with a shrug.
I looked at him in surprise and with a sly laugh, I said, " Oh, you don't have to get back quickly to start on your work now? "
Catching him off guard, he stuttered as he said, " Well, I mean.. um... I do... but.. Ahhh why you do this, Luke! " He said as he avoided looking into my eyes and quickly tried to get into the car.
I laughed as I got in and looked at him again. " It's alright to take a break and thoroughly enjoy yourself every once in a while. " I said as I reached out to pinch his scrunched-up nose.
Brandon nodded slightly, but before he could turn away in time, I noticed the slight blush in his cheeks.
I turned away quickly too, in case he would look at me. But knowing him, he probably would run away and hide somewhere rather than turn and face me now.
He reminded me of a cute chipmunk for some reason. I shook my head with a smile as I tried getting that image out of my head.
" Um.. So. I heard they were making a sequel. " I said steering the conversation back to our lively conversation from this silence.
Immediately Brandon perked up as he turned and said, " Oh yes, I heard that too. There's so much they can build on. " He started again all excited.
...
We reached the car servicing centre about half an hour later. Luckily for us, we reached just in time.
" We were just about to close, you know. You guys were seriously lucky. " The one who was checking the dent said.
" There seems to be a major traffic jam. We got stuck in it for quite a bit. " I replied.
" Well, if I were you, I'd get started back quickly then. These roads will take a while to clear, your best bet is to start now so that you'll reach back early son. You can come to pick your car up tomorrow. " He said with a smile as he looked up at me.
Smiling back at him, Brandon and I thanked him and left. " Such a nice person. " Brandon said and I nodded in agreement.
We stood near the road as we waited for the cab to arrive. Being a breezy day, the weather was all together making it quite cool.
I turned to Brandon who was standing next to me. " Hmm? " He said as he looked back at me. " Are you cold? " I blurted out without thinking.
" Not really. Why? " He asked as he raised an eyebrow.
Spotting the mischievous twinkle in his eyes, I leaned to him and teased, " I would have given you my jacket if you said you were. "
" That's cliché, even for you. " He laughed as he playfully kicked me. I laughed back and we continued to goof around till our cab arrived.
A cute chipmunk 🐿 I love talking about movies afterwards as well, mostly if they were really good. We don't go that deep, but just going over different favorite scenes or visual moments
"Luke..." gasped Brandon as he pulled him into his embrace. "Don't you ever leave," he whispered as he buried his face into Luke's shoulder.
